Fixing my sleep schedule as a chaotic night owl

It's hard out here for a night owl. For the longest time I struggled with waking up in the morning and falling asleep at night. After a lot of trial and error, I've finally figured out how to manage my sleep schedule. Here's how I did it. (✏️Video Notes Below ↓↓↓)

Getting a good night's sleep can be hard work! I've finally released the societal pressure to keep normal hours and am going with the flow of my body. It feels so much better than fighting myself to stay on an unnatural schedule. Figuring out what worked for me took a lot of listening to my body, and fine tuning my evening routine over time. It was a longer journey than I expected, but I feel so much better rested having reached the destination.

I love how at the beginning you were like, “being a night owl is biological… but I want to be a morning person.” And by the end the solution was just be a night owl 😂 we just can’t outsmart our bodies so we might as well listen to them!

Love this for you! Being able to find a way to work with your natural rhythms is the dream. I think especially with the whole morning routine thing there is a lot of pressure about your days fitting a certain look, regardless of whether or not that actually works for you.

Putting a routine on my sleep tends to stifle my creativity, for there different energies through out the nite and day of which I transmute... My solution has been to remain flexible between night owl and early bird... which tends to reak havoc on my social life but my art is more important.

Not me watching this while getting ready for bed at 4:15am 😬 being laid off really has me effed up Before the pandemmi though I'd figured out that being in bed falling asleep by 1am and waking up at 10am was my body's ideal schedule

Haha wow, that's awesome that you came right back to just doing what felt best for you. I'm a fellow night owl but I've worked an 8:30-5 (or at one point 7:30-4) job for my whole adult life and it is a STRUGGLE sometimes. It's gotten way better since we moved to work from home last year, since I don't have a commute and can just roll out of bed at 8:15. The only thing that I've found to quiet my mind to let me sleep is listening to calm stories like on Headspace. Otherwise my brain won't stop going! Anyway, loved the video!
