Fixing a 2007 Mustang GT with Manley Internals, MMR Tensioners & Guides, and Todd Warren Cams

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This engine was assembled with Manley 5.0 stroker internals, Fox Lake CNC ported heads, 120 lbs Valve springs, and custom Todd Warren Cams. The engine ran perfect at first and then had a bad knock after it would get to operating temperature. It almost sounded like a rod knock but it ended up being the cam phasers. With the increase in lift and valve spring pressure the VCT solenoids couldn’t control the phasers. Some Blow By Racing cam phaser lock outs fixed the problem.

Glad you got it figured out John. I’m not a huge fan of cam phasers due to so many issues. It’s too bad Fox Lake shutdown. Ron did extremely high quality head work!

Thank you, I don't have video but the knock was really bad and it was difficult to figure out. I heard that Fox Lake shut down. Ron does great work, these heads look great and the engine feels like it makes some power.

Locking them out on this engine fixed the problem. We tried to limit them, but it kept having problems.

Are the mmr , aluminum guides any good ??? I just bought some but don't see any reviews and we'll , I kinda feel dumb for buying them , I don't know if I should put them in or keep stock guides

Yes, they are great! I have used them and they make quality stuff. Pretty sure they are Ethanol resistant as well, that is a bigger deal then most people realize. Alcohol in fuel can make it past the rings into the crank case where it eats up plastic and rubber.

Wait ! Did you build a new engine and reinstall old cam phasers ? They look pretty tarnished like they are original lol ! No wonder you had issues, It doesn't matter now because you locked them out, but anybody watching this NEVER use old phasers on a new build. And make sure to upgrade to billet oil pump gears, stay away from mmr gears, get a good quality set from Boundary, take it from me I learned the hard way.

Mmr gears are great, if your locking out the phasers then it doesn’t matter how old it is it’s acting as a solid gear now, the only reason you couldn’t run a 2v cam gear is becuase the cam senser runs off the contact points that stick out on the 3v phasers

@@andrewwest3556 I didn't have good luck with mmr gears, the tolerance was too much, but glad they worked out for you. And yes, your correct, if the cams are locked out, the phaser is just a gear at that point, but I'd degree the cams in, they can be way off out of the box and leave power on the table.
