Fix the Harbor Freight hydraulic cart due to poorly adjusted control valve.
Комедия
The Harbor Freight hydraulic table cart that I bought had a poorly adjusted the hydraulic valve. It was in partial open position. So when I push the hydraulic pedal, the table did not elevate at all. I did bleed it twice as the instruction booklet says. This video will show you the problem and how to fix it. Not a real time video, but will bring the root problem to you.

After bleeding and pumping for damn near an hour (and a ton of cussing!!!!) I came across this video ... after about 15min had it working!! You sir are a lifesaver!!! Thank you!!
Saved my boss $400!!! Awesome job, and thank you for the information! Great vid!
Well like so many comments before me. You really helped us out. After 3 hours of a lot of frustration we were getting ready to put it back in the box and take it back. But we came across your video and within 10 minutes it was working thank you so much.
Bro you saved me. I needed this lift table for a job. Get to the job and it would not work. Thank you for your video!! Saved me
I bought the 1000 pound cart, exact same problem. typical harbor freight. I looked up on YT to find out how to bleed, and saw this video. Exactly right! Problem fixed, thank you.
Cannot thank you enough. After an hour of bleeding and spilling I tried your suggestion and the table worked perfectly. Thank you for posting!
Thank you! I just did the bleeding procedure with no luck (and you’re right that plug is a pain to get in. Did what you suggested, worked right away. I got my table for half off as an open box. I assume whoever bought it had the same problem and just returned it. Thanks to you I got this table working and saved a fortune.
After driving to 4 different stores (yes I checked to see that they had them before going) and having them sold before I get to the stores, I was finally able to get the 1000 lb. That I wanted with the 25% coupon. Got it out of my truck and put together. And Nothing! It didn't work. Thought it didn't have any fluid. Watched your video and got it working. YOU ARE THE HERO OF THE DAY. THANKS!
I loosened the 9/16 nut and vise griped the cable and pulled on it and then tightened 9/16 nut tight and it fixed mine. Thanks for pointing out the problem. It failed me again, so will get back with you.
Thanks for the info. I have this table for a week. I filled it up with fluid, but it won't pump up the table. So I did what you suggested. Disconnected the cable. Then pumped the table up it came up. Then I had to adjust the cable twice then work on the screw stop on the lever. It works a whole lots better. Thank you.
Thanks for this! The cart was originally bought so I could install a new water heater on my own. It has become more than that as I had the idea to use it to lift my elderly mother who fell and couldn't get off the floor. Like anyone I was about to call 911 but she said she was fine, didn't think anything was broken and threatened to disown me if I called for wasting money. I knew I couldn't just pick her up without injuring her (She's a fairly heavy gal with osteo problems). So this tool popped into my head but I had issues with it and knew it was broken. Came across your video and was able to get it working in 10 minutes. We basically got her up to her feet after making a ramp of books and pillows so she could sit on the table. I'm now trying to come up with a much easier way for her to get off the floor, maybe a chair attachment of some kind for the table. I looked at those medical patient lifts but they cost 3 to 4k. Thanks again man!

Glad my video helped you and your dear mother. If you can find a used Hoyer lift which is for patient transfer from chair to bed etc, that will be the safe way to go. Make sure the slings come with the Hoyer lift. I bought a used one for my mother-in-law for $100. Hope that you come up some ideas to modify the table. If it is me, I would put 4 bigger wheels so the cart can move easily. Of course to prevent fall is the most important way to go. Take care.

@@erguy6319 Thanks man. Definitely looking to get a used Hoyer Lift, looks a bit more practical than making a slip on chair for the table lol. The ideas that we get sometimes. Thanks again.
Good job, I've had mine for about 7 years now, and never had a problem, but when I first got it, I had to do what you described in this video, thanks for sharing.
You did a great job explaining the adjustment process, very clear and understandble. The one thing I wish you went into more was how you got that darn plug back in because it is a hassle, and I don't want to be on it for five more days LOL. Thank you very much.

With a small flat screwdriver, you can the rubber plug back without too much trouble. Hope you do not have to do it again.
Thank you very much. My Harbor Freight cart suffered the same poor quality assembly. Your video and five minutes with the two wrenches and I have a cool, functioning cart. Again, BIG THX!

You are very welcome.
I just bought the 1,000 lift and had the same problem. It would not lift since the control cable was too tight and holding the release valve open. After reviewing your video, I tipped the thing over to get to the adjustment cable and did this twice to get it properly adjusted. Mine came with a screw with o ring in the fill hole rather than a rubber plug. I did add fluid to mine with a large dropper tube since it is very difficult to get to. Now it works fine and I love the thing. Thanks for your video. Mine also had a bright yellow tag attached identifying the adjustment, so this is known issues with these.
Been thinking of buying one, but worried about the problems I've heard about, mostly this. Thanks for the cool video about how to fix it!
July 2019, just bought this lift cart...same problem...thank you for the easy fix video
Very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to put this up here.
Hi. Thanks for the video. As I watched I think there is an actual cable adjustment right at the end of the black cable housing. A long nut onto a threaded piece (within which is the actual cable). So just like a bike brake lever, you would adjust the tension here, NOT on the 9/16 nuts as shown. They just serve to lock the cable to the valve. Hope this helps! I appreciate the detective work to get to the problem! Top shelf!

Thanks for the update and simple, yet not necessarily obvious adjustment! 👍😎
Thank you for the review. The Pittsburgh Life Table is bad quality, I wish they adjust hydraulic pedal during manufacturing.
That rubber plug is terrible. It pops out easily but is really hard to get back in. I'm going to use a hose clamp to keep it from popping. Thanks for the tip on the cable.

Thank you. It works for rhe 1000 pound version too. You saved me a ton of headache!
Thank you so much, after flushing my cart several times, and not being able to find the problem, I tried this and it fixed the issue.

Great suggestion. I am thinking of getting one and will be ready to face the problem if it shows up. Thanks for sharing
I got my lift table today (works great - had a couple of different portable generators on it to test and was perfect). While setting it up I can came across the attached label which basically described your solution. Thanks again!

Good to know. HF must realized the problem and did labels to help the buyers.
Exactly my problem. Thank you for this helpful video!
Great advice, and review!
Thank you, got mine working perfectly.
Thank you for this, I brought home my second one (first was broken out of the box), and this was the exact fix!
Thanks, your video helped. That is exactly what was happening to my cart.
Thank you all working again thanks to your video.
Exactly the solution to the problem I'm having with my new lift table! Thank you
Now mine, after 18 months, goes down ever so slowly. I’ll check the cable, it does look like it’s pushing on the valve a tiny bit. The rubber plug is a pain, hopefully you’re don’t rip it pulling it out. They aren’t cheap for what they are. Thanks for the video.
Your fix was exactly the same issue I had and now it's a useful tool again after sitting in the corner of the garage collecting dust...Thank you
Thank you for this video. This repair worked for me.
Another issue can be that the valve piston does not protude far enough out, even when the stop screw in adjusted out. Pull piston out slightly with pliers and oil it then try to pump up. if it's okay, then screw in stop screw until it touches piston and tighten nut.
A friend moved away and left me his table, which doesn’t work. I will try this, then I’ll have 2. Thanks man.

Good luck.
Just purchased one of these, and the adjustments I had to make are exactly as described. Pumping the hydraulic pedal did nothing out of the box. The cable adjustment is not the easiest thing to get to (I have the 1000 lb model), but it wasn't that difficult to lay it on its side. I put down a blanket to keep scratching to a minimum. Did not have to bleed the hydraulic. Works great now. erguy6319, thank you for this video. Saved me from returning it to Harbor Freight.
Great video thanks. I like your Honda snowblower and generator also!

Thank you. The sad truth is when the cell phones and TVs getting better every day, the quality of the snowblowers go to another direction. Everything designed is to make sure you will buy another new snowblower in 5 years. So Honda is expensive, but it works beautifully for the past 15 years and still one pull starts every time .
Thank you. Did the trick.
This worked 11/02/20 =) thank you
Good catch. Thanks.
Thanks this info worked on mind also.

Thank you!
I have went through 3 brand new hydraulic replacement cylinders and all do the same.i can't get them to jack up.. I push down on the Jack lever,it goes up but when I let off the Jack lever it goes right back down.. I might not be doing the bleeding process correctly but I've tried every way
Anyone have advice on how to remove and install the hydraulic rubber plug? Thanks.
I just bought one of these and found that valve (it’s actually the release valve) leaking badly. Since exchanging it would be a lot of work, I took that valve apart and found that there are three seals. Two of mine were defective and the third needed some careful filing to fit right. Kind of to be expected with Harbor Freight.

If you can, do you have some photos of where the leak was?
Great video. Does this table have a lock to hold it at full height safely?

Yes, flip the metal bars will keep the table heights.
Where to buy the control cable? My control cable was broken due to rust (left it outside for several days). Thanks

I will take the old cable to a bicycle shop to see anything they have can be used. May need to cut the length to fit.
there are cable adjustments like a bicycle that also help with that problem

You are right, great suggestion and probably is simpler than my video if it is within the adjustment limits.
So frustrating. How many cents extra could it cost to get it adjusted right at the factory? I read through all the instructions and like everyone else tried everything the manual said and of course KZread has the answer. Wish it just worked out of the box.
With all do respect- I don’t understand what you are saying. Is it possible you actually do it and go through it? Thanks. Big help.
Ok I did what you said but pumping the pedal does nothing, added oil still no lift. What am I missing? Thanks

I will try to loose the cable first, and manually move the level which controlling the hydraulic release valve in different location until the pump works, then tight the cable.

Mine leaks after a six months. It would be nice, and I can't believe that they make such a good quality looking mechanism, but leave hydraulics with such a short six month lifespan.
Very Good!... #68 ✝ {7-4-2022}
It worked but that looks like a manufacturer's requirement, to have the pump in neutral. Faulty manual.
Bingo! Thanks erguy6319! I received one of these and it had the exact same problem. You steered me to the problem I needed to correct on the first try. I was thinking a fluid problem myself so you saved me a bit of trouble. Thanks again.
