Make a Tabletop Extension for a Harbor Freight Hydraulic Lift Table

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I bought my Harbor Freight lift table to be able to work at waist level and to use as an outdoor work table. But I needed it a bit bigger. Here is a simple slide on table top that enlarges the surface for bigger projects and working on things like snow blowers.

I just found this excellent idea of yours. A few upgrades that you might want to add are; putting a 45-degree chamfer on the rails to help guide it onto the tabletop, using a cabinet door handle to carry it with, and some ramps attached with door hinges that have removable pins. I hope this helps. 🤓

Those are all things I've thought about! I don't remove it much so the angles aren't than necessary. I thought of making a cutout on one edge to slip my hand through... then again it pretty much stays on so I don't remove it much. I also thought of making 2x6 ramps with pins on the end that could slip into holes on the top. Another day maybe I will. Thnx for the comment.

Great! I'm finding it very useful. Much better than trying to work on heavier equipment off the side of a wall, and often better than setting up a couple of saw horses and sheet of plywood.

Thank you! I’ve been mulling over buying one of these for 5yrs, they are not getting less expensive! What has been holding me back, was the minimum clearance which is quite high for heavy objects. This video shows how to take care of the platform size. Time to pull the trigger!

Great top. I’m going to add the same to my 500 lb one. Not quite wide enough for a lawnmower, but I already cut the 1/2 plywood and did not want to bolt it to the top. I like the keeper boards you put on.

Literally a perfect idea if you think about it if needed you could make multiple sizes too. I’m going to do this for small engine repair! Thanks great thinking

I bought the 1000 lb version a couple of weeks ago and like what you did. Thanks for the design work. I only have one problem with the design. There is no mechanical safety to protect for hydraulic failure. A Hydraulic Car jack has no safety but everyone knows to use them with jack stands. I need to devise some method or add on as simple as a couple of 1/2” holes in the lifting arms and a solid rod rod to take the load should the hydraulic cylinder fail. What is strange is the 500 lb lift has a safety.

I agree. I'm just planning on not getting under it if I have the snowblower on it. I've seen some carts with a flatbar bolted to one of the scissor arms that can slide and brace itself against the base of the cart to lock it there. I may add that at some point.

  • @CraftsmanontheLake

It's heavy and made for hard surfaces. I've rolled it across a very rough tar driveway and pulled it across crass, but it wasn't too easy. Gravel or rocky surfaces wouldn't do well I'd think.

@@justjody2 Harbor freight does make one that is good for 500 lbs instead of 1000 like mine and must be lighter. The one I have goes 4" taller that's all. I needed it to go to the level of the tailgate of my truck but if not for that the smaller one would have been less expensive and just fine for me.
