This information is accurate. Ive done this with numerous mower tires and it has never failed. Even a kubota front tire that had about 20 punctures around it is still holding air. Works excellent! I've used Slime brand.
Saved about 5 tires using this stuff! Wonderful. I used the green stuff from Harbor Freight.
This 5 year old video answered a question I had just yesterday Thanks
I hav done this on my old 74 canadiana snow blower that still has original tires with chains......works great. yr off load of the rider at end of video was great...lol. Loved it!!
You read our minds and come up with the solutions we need.
Thanks for your simple and common sense ideas. Just Slimed my rear Cub Cadet tractor tires, and they are now holding pressure. I've been topping off these tires, for a few seasons, each time I use it. Even had a tire go flat in the back acre a few times.

Thanks for the info...Great video on crummie tires..I had one bad tire with a slow leak on my old golf cart..Used slime and its never leaked since..
Thanks man for the video! I have a snow blower tire with the same problem and it’s rusted to the axel so this saves me trying to get it off!
Thank you for the great video. I have a riding mower I haven't used in "forever" and the central Florida elements have really taken a toll on the tires and they are all flat/cracked. The local mower repair place wanted to charge $20 per tire to "fix" them so they could even roll the mower onto their trailer for the other repairs I am not comfortable nor equipped to do. Yesterday I bought I giant jug of Slime at Harbor Freight and now have much greater confidence to tackle the four tires thanks to your video. Thank you!

I've been using Slime or similar products in car & truck tires for the past 30 years. It stops alloy rim leaks at the bead which they always seem to do. Like you, I always put in half the recommended amount. If you put in what they suggest, it will throw off the balancing. Nice videos, quick & straight to the point.

I've been making my own slime for several years. It's very simple and cheap. You mix corn starch in cool water with a half cup of black pepper per gallon of mix. Boil the solution until it's thickened. Mix the corn starch heavy so it's thicker when cooled down than is usable then thin it with antifreeze. The antifreeze keeps it from freezing "obviously" but also helps protect against rust. The black pepper is the secret ingredient that actually works as the sealer. If not for the pepper flakes the solution would just ooz out of the hole or cracks. If you had the time you could probably grind rubber into small flakes to take the place of the pepper flakes. I opened a bottle that was over 2 years old last week and put in our wood splitter. It looked gross after sitting that long but after shaking it up it went in the tire with no trouble and worked great. Also a 2 litter bottle with a hole drilled in the cap just a little smaller than the valve stem will screw on to the stem and makes it simple to fill the tire by squeezing.

Great advice for everyone. I have been using Slime for 4 or 5 years now or longer in my lawn tractor. Works great. Finally got tired every time I went to use my wheelbarrow, lawn cart and tractor I needed to pump a tire or two up with air. The wheel barrow and lawn cart are always stored outside and of course the tires dry rot quicker. Pump in some Slime and spin the tires around or drive them around and you are good to go. Was starting to have problems with the front tires on my now 17 year old lawn tractor stored inside. I even tried to find the leak in the right front tire more then once by filling it with air and placing it in a tire and wheel dunk tank I use for car tires and could not find the leak no matter what I did. Put some Slime in those front tires and rarely add air to them anymore. The money you save from not having to buy new tires not really needed and the headache of dealing with flat tires more then pays for the little bit of Slime it takes to fix the problem. Haven't tried the no-name product being I haven't needed to buy anymore to fix anything. I purchased mine in the 1 gallon container. Sixtyfiveford has some of the best videos on You Tube.

I've had amazing results with this slime stuff over the past 15+ years. It's saved countless lawn and garden tires. The only stuff I found to work better was a product called Tire Ject, but I've only been using that for around 16 months.
Thanks for the review I am always having to put air in my tires before I mow going to get me some of this stuff
Many comments say put in an inner tube but that's like ten or twenty bucks and a pain in the butt job...this slime works great five minutes you're finished you rock I've done it many times think I will get some cheap no name stuff

I've used Stans NoTubes bicycle tire sealant with good success on leaky riding mower tires. It's kind of pricy at $20 per quart! Your jug of sealant with pump and filler tube looks really easy to use and should last a long time...will have to try that out.

motoYam82 I buy with a commercial discount at around $17 a gallon but I think it runs $25-30 retail/gallon. I just learned about the Stans No Tubes and haven't compared it yet. I'll have to give it a try.
Used a little more Slime than bottle recommended just for experiment ( I'm cheap ) on a Rear rider mower tire that was WAY dry rotten and whould hold air a half day at most. Still holding air after two months now. Again " very dry rotted it was " ! I'm totally sold now on putting Guwey stuff with particles in tires to stop leaks. PS Also works on aggravating slow rim leaks on tubeless Motor cycle tires. Love it and worth the $
My brother got a piece of wire (piece of radial steel belt or something) in the sidewall of my mower tire so I bought this stuff and put it in all 4 since I was doing it anyway but I put the recommended jug per tire. Just the other day I pulled the mower out again to use it and discovered my brother got a roofing nail in the tire. All I did was pull the nail and immediately take off mowing and the tire sealed itself just like the slime stuff intended. Glad I have it there for future use, if I ever have to buy new tires I think I'll fill them with it too as a precaution for when I need it.
Fix a flat is totally not junk. It has saved me many of times. I keep a can in all of my vehicles.

@Avanti2Man! Uscgsam I have removed a tire that had fix a flat in it, I was sick for 3 days. Some places will not remove a tire that has that stuff in it. Better to use slime and carry a compressor.
I bought a plastic bottle of this stuff that was suppose to be especially for motorcycle tires and I had brand new Michelin tires installed on my big Kawasaki Concours sport/touring bike. I got it home and placed the slime stuff in both front and rear tires. After I rode the bike and the tires got really heated up hot this stuff equalized inside of the tires and I have absolutely no shake, shimmy, unbalanced feeling and I could let go of the handlebars and the bike tracked straight as an arrow. The tires have almost 25,000 miles on them and they actually do not look bad at all. It even helped with the wear and the tires are very evenly worn. I have pulled screws, wire, nails, wood and other kinds of stuff out of the tread and never lost any air at all in either tire. All I did was pulled whatever was stuck in the tire out of it and the hole just healed itself. This stuff works really well.
Great information, thankyou, 👍🏻👌🏻 from 🇦🇺
Some good thoughts on using that stuff. I suppose it's avalable here in Germany, but I've never seen it. I just put a solid rubber tire on my wheelbarrow. LoL Thanks for the tips. Ed of the North sent me over and I will be watching and enjoying your vids.

I just broke the bead on one side. Then poured in about a quart of old latex paint. Aired the tire up and mowed the lawn. I left white marks for a few minutes, I did stop and air up the tire when it looked low. By the time I mowed an acre, the leak stopped. I never added air for two years afterward. I've also taken the tire off and painted the inside with latex paint. Put grease on the bead, and remounted it. No leaks, lasted for years. What else can you do with Old latex paint that has a skin on top???

A cheap inner tube is the better fix, it'll last until the tread is worn out or the sides rot completely away. Harbor Freight has them fairly cheap and their 18" tube fits most small lawn tractors. I generally install a tube, then fill the tube with washer fluid for ballast and added weight.

Super glue bonds rubber EXCEPTIONALLY well! I did this to the same exact tractor in the video. We glued the outer casing back together with super glue, then filled with the green slime.Still holding air after 4 years. To hold and press the outer casing together while gluing, used the tip of a screw driver, not your finger. Baking soda also solidifies the super glue instantly.
@ramchillarege1658

Do you do the slime first, so that it has a chance to seep through first? Then super glue? The other way around, it may not establish a flow of the slime through the interior cracks, right?
@Joeak74
Жыл бұрын
@@ramchillarege1658 I super glued EVERYTHING first. If the surfaces for the glue is dirty, clean with carb cleaner, etc and let evaporate till dry. Hitting the tire with a heat gun will also make the rubber pliable and easy to work with. Remember that super glue can be dusted with baking soda to solidify instantly! The glue is acid based. The baking soda neutralizes the glue. Happy Thanksgiving!

@@Joeak74 Thanks for the clarity. There seem to be multiple brands of super glue. Gorilla, Scotch (chepaer) are they all good on rubber? @Joeak74

@@ramchillarege1658 I should have clarified... The "Gel" version of super glue is TERRIBLE for everything. Use the regular old "thin, watery super glue. I use the Harbor freight super glue in the little tubes. The tire carcass was still in good shape, it was just that the outer casing (tire rubber) was split, de-laminated, and cracked. I could physically push a welding rod through the tire. It was that ventilated. I said the hell with it, and figured I would give it a chance, and it worked. And it worked well.

Last year I had a tractor tire from a Massey to35 get several holes and tears up to 3 inches wide. I fixed it with some tire patches, a five gallon bucket of sawdust, and 10 gallons of junk latex paint from the dump. Sealed up tighter than a wood tick and ain't leaked since.
Thanks for sharing. Got a 15 year old Deere L130 and this Fall both front tires developed slow leaks and eventually one rear tire did too. I could pump them up and cut the lawn. About 2-3 days later they were flat again. Going to try this! Does the outside air temp influence slime's effectiveness. In New England and while it may hit 50 tomorrow, night temps are down to or below freezing this time of year.

Mr. 65. Hello. I came across a recipe cor this stuff that I've used around the homestead for many years. You simply bring a gallon or so of water to a boil with first stirring in some corn starch and a good handfull of black ground pepper "corse and fine ground mixed would be great" Then add some antifreeze before it quits boiling. To put in the tire i make a pumper with a gallon glass pickle jar with 2 holes drilled in the metal lid. One hole you put a valve stem in and tbe other a piece of 1/4 inch ID. clear rubber hose and let it go to the bottom of tbe jar. Put the 1/4 inch hose over the open valve stem on the wheel of the tire you're fixing and add air to the valve on top of the gallon jar witb the homemade sludge in it. It will quickly pump into your flat tire. Its really not the safest method and wrapping the gallon jar with good ducting tape would help because the pressure could explode the jar. for a quicky I've also just mixed black pepper with antifreeze. Both front tires on my big tractor leaked air and they were my first fix with this solution and I've Never added air since and that was many years ago.
@sixtyfiveford

I've heard of similar recipes but really no long term results. Like you said, Drag Strip rubber would be the right size. The only other ingredient that I've read about is cotton fiber. I suspect simple dryer lint would suffice for that.

I just put some in it, put air in it, mowed the last season mow, and parked it in the corner. One day I glanced at it, thinking about doing the maintenance work on it early, and noticed green foam in a straight line on the inner sidewall of the tire. I was like, huh! Thats the hole. When I moved some how my lawnmower tractor got a gash in the side wall. And by some how I mean I most likely jacked it up getting it in or out. Anyways all i could find was gorilla glue. So I squeezed it in and filled up the tire so I could get it out of the truck. It worked better than I expected and went from a tire that would go flat in 1 minute to a tire that would go flat in a day. Someday i will open it up and patch it until then I just fill it up before I need it.

I used super glue on mine too. The sidewall was cracked. It glued the cracks and stopped 95% of the leaks. The problem I had after that was the tire kept cracking. I glued it several more times. Then I dumped about a cup of sealant in the tire and laid it on its side. Then spun it a few times, so the slime laid on the cracks. After about 15 minutes I flipped it over so the other side was coated. That was about 4 months ago and the tire is holding air. Tubes are half the price of a tire and rim. Hard to find too.
Wonder if they make airless tires for those size rims At work we use a zoom boom lift truck with massive tires that kept Leaking, they were replaced with airless tires. Problem fixed. Great video tip. Thx

Prior to adding gel, you could rotate the wheel so the damaged area was at the bottom, thus having the bulk of the repair gel at the hole in the tire.

Hey Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
we havent got slime over here , we have a foam that work much the same way ,but it tends to desolve the rubber and make the tyre die or atleast the innertube after a while!

Curiosity Thanks.
The kubota tire sealant is the cats pajamas.. Literally can stab a tire multiple times with a 1/4" awl and it plugs it right up.
I'd forgotten about using slime on anything other than bicycle tires. Thanks for the reminder and the tip that it only takes enough to stop the leak, which can be a lot less than the whole bottle.

A LeBlanc It can get pricey if a whole bottle is used like they want you to.
Thanks for the video! Do you know how well this would work (or not) in a tire with inner tube?

This stuff doesn't work great in an inner-tube in my experience. In those situations I either remove the inner tube and put sealant in or repair the tube and reinsert it.

I have an old forklift with tubes that have nail holes.... works great. Like any stop leak, it has to reach the leaks to work. This is like Fix-A-Flat on steroids.
Have you used ATF fluid .. for doing this ..
Good timing for this video, just picked up a scag and the front caster wheel is completely flat. Hopefully this stuff will work. Then I just need to find a whole new caster assembly on the other side
used it once on a wheelbarrow tire and when I took it apart couple of years later the rim was so rusted and rotten I had to through the whole thing away...tire and rim

Amerseal won't do that. White and clean no water separation.
Slime does work good. I have an old WWII forklift with air tires. The tires and tubes are probably from the 1960's. They are way dry rotted. I've run over some nails. I'm afraid if I take the wheels off this thing, it may not go back together. It's rough. Slime it up...... it holds air enough to use it. For a 80 year old machine, that's good enough for me.

Sometimes it just takes a lot but it has always worked good for me.
