How to Fill a Tire with Foam, No More Flat Tires. DIY Life Hack

Фильм және анимация

Permanently fix those flat tires, the ones that keep going flat, the tires that have a hole, cracks, or slow leaks, on your snow blower, wheelbarrow, riding lawn mower, hand truck, wagon, yard cart, kids bike, scooter, any small tire light use application, for cheaper then the cost of an inner tube.

The only problem I see is that at 70-80 mph, your snowblower's handling might not be as good. I don't think it will corner as well at high speeds...other than that...this appears to be a good fix.

I had a problem with 4 small tires leaking air on my big turf mower so I looked into foaming them. Tire stores and tractor stores all around my house said there was only one place that could do the work. I had to drive 40 miles, leave them for a few days and pay over $100 dollars. I knew there must be a better way, and you have found it Warren. I will do it your way next time! Thanks.

This may be a temporary fix but that foam is not meant to compress and decompress over and over and will start to fall apart eventually leaving you with a useless wheel and tire. Do not even think about using this foam on anything heavy, they do put foam in tires for heavy machinery such as forklifts and tractors but it is a completely different type of foam.

Low-density foam (i.e. Great Stuff) gets crumbly very quickly. It can't support the weight of a mower. You would be left with tires full of urethane chunks and powder after a few mows. You must use a high density rubber foam.

I know this is old but I've run into a similar problem with a lightweight electric rider. The solution that worked for a decade on my Jeep Wrangler was fix a flat and frankly this solution is the same except it does not account for air. I think this would work better if it was applied like fix a flat. In other words, spray some foam in, put the valve back, and fill with air. Also don't create more holes before doing this. The foam will fill the cracks, and the air will stay in. However, fix a flat costs about the same as great stuff so just use Fix-A-Flat which works great with Street vehicles. And I know people don't like to use Fix-A-Flat in the fancy tires on their vehicles but I'm telling you it works great and if it can handle a Jeep Wrangler it can handle your snow blower lawn mower etc. Great video!

  • @typogenerator

I missed one step. After adding air, make sure you spend the tire to distribute the phone liquid which is still expanding along the outside of the inner tube which is the inside of the tire, you're trying to fill all the cracks.

I did this twice on my lawn trailer tires and wasted 2 cans of Great Stuff trying this. The foam never expanded or solidified. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that the product needs MOISTURE to work properly. On my third attempt, I injected about 2 ounces of water into each tire, spun the tires to distribute the water evenly, and then re-injeccted them with Great Stuff. This worked out very well and gave me great results! The manufacturer was adamant, however, that THIS IS NOT AN APPROVED USE OF THEIR PRODUCT.

I have two leakers on my lawn tractor, and its kind of heavy and I have a lot of rocks in my yard. That particular brand of foam sets up hard, too, so I am sitting here wondering if this foam in my tires will make the ride/mowing too bumpy? I love the potential longevity, but I'm thinking SLIME might be a better choice, since I actually ride this unit.

Wow! What a good idea! I have a wheelbarrow with a flat tire. I can't wait to try it. I think I will insert the foam then air the tire gently to a few pounds to spread the foam throughout the tire then release all the air and then let it dry for a few days and then inflate the tire to correct pounds once it is dry. That way the leaks are patched and the tire is solid enough for a heavy load. What do ya think Warren? Will it work? Let me know. Thanks for sharing.

I under stand punching holes to let the air out as the foam come in, my concern was that it would not fill the entire tire by just filling it through the air valve. You found it to fill the entire tire from jut that one valve (just one hole to put foam in)?

If you would take the air out of the tire for the next year it would have lasted a lot long, the summer heat puts a lot more in there than it needs, like a riding mower tire doesn't really matter because as it gets colder the air pressure is going down. But I do like this method, how is it holding up?

Familia Valenzuela . It will-ish. this foam dries really hard. so you'll be in for a bumpy ride. If you use a mountain bike, you'll also lose traction because the tire won't flex.

Interesting. What can one use to moisturize the rubber to avoid dry rot? How can you replace the tire with the foam inside the old tire?

There are tire treatments in the auto parts store to try to slow the rot... but you won't stop it. Once the rot has cracked the tire to show the cord (fabric/threads) it is unsafe to use a tube.

Jose Benitez used motor oil will help prevent dry rot, together with keeping the tires out of direct sun light

Jose Benitez , for years and years, we have used old brake fluid. It moisturizes and adds a nice shine.
