Fix and Ride | Installing a new electronic shifter, wheels, and tires on my Sync'r hardtail

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we're going to do some work in the shop, and go for a little ride! Archer components sent me the new version of their D1-X wireless shifting system. The system will add electronic wireless shifting to ANY drivetrain. You could put this on a Walmart bike with a 6 speed cassette and it would work. You could then swap the cassette and use one with more gears, and you could still get it to work with the same derailleur. Today we're be using a Box 11 speed derailleur with a 9 speed cassette.
Features of the new system include better reliability, longer battery life, and improved shifter buttons. Many of the complaints I had on the last system were addressed.

In addition to the D1-X, I'll be testing some Crankbrothers Alloy wheels, and replacing my tires with new 2.8" Maxxis Minions.

Just something I noticed as a tire industry veteran if all types, it's always easier to start and finish at the valve when mounting as it is in the drop center of the rim. That little bit makes a huge difference with a lot of tire products ease of installations. The indexing you mentioned is spot on 👍

6:45 I made the exact same mistake with my D1x. Eventually I got frustrated with it and just clipped those rubber nubs off. :D Shifter works great though. I'm using it to shift an 11-speed Sunrace cassette with my Box Two-E 9sp rear derailleur, on a very slightly bent derailleur hanger (just enough to make cable index shifters a bit sloppy), and it just works. And when I'm done with touring on my 11sp and wear out this cassette, I'll probably swap in an 8sp for flatland commuting. Re: The batteries - I 100% feel you with regard to the annoyance of the battery swap process. Especially that tiny hex key for the shifter. A couple of things I've found that help just a bit: 1. You can use a hex key (and it's a normal size!) to open the battery door on the motor unit, instead of using a screwdriver. 2. You can use one of those little handheld magnetic grabber things to fish out the batteries in the motor unit.

2:16 - Completely pointless imo. I line up the psi ratings on the tire with the valve stem, function over form. Also, it usually seems to put the tire graphic on the less busy side of whatever graphic the rims has in my experience, filling out the wheel much more and making it look better imo.
