Thank you for the video. I understand now how the camera sees the fiber from two views, 90 deg apart for horizontal and vertical alignment, using those two rather tired mirrors. Considering the ends of the fiber cleave, I nearly fell off my chair when the splice was made! I have been looking for quite some time for how the fiber was visualized but you-tube tends to hide these great informational videos, preferring instead to favor `brain rotting` UFO news. Thanks again for this great tear down. (Subscribed!) Chris.

Those caps in "holders" are actually Murata power filters, with inductors, configured as a pi-filter.

Hey Thanks for this video. I especially liked the brief overview and description of the circuity. I'm an Electrical Engineering hobbyist recently taken up microprocessor design work. So it was nice to see some of my design work that I have laid out was actually legitimately uses in older quality tech. I don't have time to tear down and research circuits to see if my designs are reasonable. Thanks :)

Very well built unit, Definitely worthwhile repairing

Very nicely done. Outside of the strange capacitor wiring job in the power supply it really looks like a well built unit.

The humidity sensor may be the relatively large brown part next to the supercapacitor on the CPU board. I've seen those types of RH sensors before in weather monitoring devices.

I wondered why a fiber splicer had so much circuitry. I understand now. That's a hell of a machine.

A V53! That's the processor used in a bunch of Hamsats. It's like an 8086 with DMA built in that can also do 8-bit stuff. Low power too - but you only get 0.05 MIPS per MHz.

Nice fix! I was trained on splicing fibres at my old job. It is complaining because the machine vision can tell you made a mess of the cleaving :) You're supposed to use a special precision cleaving tool that is almost as rare as the unit itself. Anyway you should get a good wad for it on eBay!

Be careful with the FS mirrors. I don't know what the tissue you used to clean them was made of, but what I've heard it should not contain wood fibers. Cotton swabs seem to be fine.

Very japanese electronics, nothing special in fact, it does just look like the circuits of any photocopier or camcorder, I was expecting something of a higher lever. Still great to see though, because such devices are just pure unobtainium...
