Once again Gene, you did a great job for us video junkies. I've read the article that you mentioned and I seem to get more from someone explaining live (or video) than I do from reading. I sure look forward to the bait/lure reviews. I have definitely improved due to your videos, because I catch more fish with your tips and techniques. My 7 year old son and I watch these videos together and I see him trying to apply what he can, and he does catch a few. The only problem I have now is that he wants to use the bait casters, so I give mine knowing full well I'm about to get back a reel with a horrible birdnest in it.

Awesome video, have a couple questions. I'm looking at picking up a few different rods for lake trout, we typically start early in the morning with sinking swim bait for the bigger lakers in the 15-30 pound range using a method similar to jigging, later in the day we move to a different part of the lake for the smaller lakers in the 3-8 pound range and jig with 4 inch buzz bombs. Then once lunchtime rolls around we get the downriggers out to troll for the smaller lakers. So I'm looking for suggestions on power and action. I realize graphite is more sensitive than fiberglass but graphite is not designed to work well with downriggers, so would I be okay with a medium fiberglass for the downriggers and a medium heavy for jigging both sizes of the lakers?

Hi, thanks for the great video. I really appreciate this video as I have been confused for a long time. I wish rod rating describe 4 things; power, action, sensitivity, and stiffness. The general understanding is that a fast action rod is stiffer than a medium action rod of the same power rating, but I have seen many exceptions to that. For example, Quantum Vibe rod is a medium power (6-12 lb line) medium action graphite rod, but it is MUCH STIFFER that the Shimano Stimula which is a medium power (6-14 lb line) fast action composite rod. There are rods out there that are so stiff the tip wont bend but the whole rod bends, now that's considered medium action but the rod is actually not soft at all. How would you describe such rod? Would you recommend such rod for single hook presentations such as worms or Johnson Silver Minnow spoons.
@forevals210 жыл бұрын
For shaky heads/Texas rigged soft plastics, would a 7' heavy, fast action work? It'd be sensitive since its fast action. My main concern is how big a role the power of the rod comes into play. I'm not casting heavy Texas rigs either. I'm also thinking about braid for more sensitivity. Great video brother. Best one I've seen

I'm glad I watched this before my trip to the tackle shop. You just saved me from making a massive mistake.
Hey bud, gotta say, as far as "teaching" you're definitely the best on KZread. Alot of guys just give opinions.....you seem to base your teachings from FACT, rather than opinion.
Tons of info Gene! Thank you so much for the explanation of power and action. It makes so much sense now.
I'm trying to pick a rod for my jerkbait lures and this video has helped me understand what does fast, slow, moderate tip means. It even shows the different bends of the rod according to its descriptions. The video is very well made and made it very understandable for new guys like myself. I've only used ugly sticks since I'm a newbie. Great video and thanks!

I never considered action equating to a sensitivity of a rod. Very helpful! Thanks for all you do! Wish I'd have seen this years ago lol.
Wow! I can't believe I'd never seen this video before, it's fantastic!
YOU FREAKIN ROCK!!! Thanks for all your great vids man!
Hey Gene, great description on power and action of a rod. Helped me buy my new rod (Ducket Ghost 7'6") and reel ( Abu Garcia Orro SX) and gave me tips on how to better utilize my current setup. Many thanks! Please keep the videos coming. You did a video on bank fishing a while back and if you get the chance, so please give some more tips for those of us who don't yet own a boat.

Thanks Shawn. I'm trying to put something together on bank fishing but it is going to take some time.

LOL! that's awesome. I always keep my videos clean so a child can sit on dad's lap and watch with him. I have three boys and a girl and it's nice not worrying about what they will see while sitting on my lap when I watch videos.
Anyone getting into bass fishing, even those of us who fish a lot, should watch this video! I can't stress enough how important it is to have the correct rod for the right line and lure! You'll catch so many more fish (at least not lose many fish) if you're using the correct power/action rod to line strength! Thanks Gene!

No problemo. I never even thought of what "action" ment. I was just assuming I used a fast action for fast retrieves and a medium for slower retrieves. Derp a do me! Ill mention what I learned from you and send people your way for the in depth insight. THansk again. PS KEEP ON POSTING THOSE FISH VIDEOS!

Wow just wow you are probably the best fishing KZreadr I’ve ever watched that explained the rod action and power this was so helpful most fishing youtubers and biased and like specific rod and reel company’s but I think it’s a good idea to try different rod companies are better than others on specific rod actions or powers great info this really answers my questions
And i thought i had a good idea of it... thanks Gene, you never cease to please

nice breakdown on how rods are measured.
very good video man, now I understand the fast and moderate action thanks allot.
loved this video! very informative! thanks fluke!
which ghost series rod would you recommend for flipping/pitching/frogs? thanks
No fancy edits but GREAT content. Thanks!
Fluke buddy idk why you are stuck right at under 300k Subs! You should have a million at the least! I have been watching you for years and you are one of the best fishing KZreadrs that there is in my opinion. Heck I’m starting up my own “Fishing/Hunting/Outdoors” KZread channel. I’m in the process of getting it up and going and I’m flipping out every time I get that notification saying I have a new sub! My Goal is to hit 100 subs this year. I would be ecstatic lol! But you my friend have worked and busted your tail and have earned each and everyone of your subs! I can’t wait to see the day you hit a Million!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Flukemaster Jensen. I never really knew the difference between all the powers and speed ect. but had an idea. It make more sense now. I read up a little bit earlier on a web site. Hopefully it helps me choose and catch fish.
I love this video. It's very informative and professional.

What’s your thoughts on a 7.6 medium light extra fast rod? Thank you so much for taking the time to do all these videos. I watch so many KZreadrs but you are by far the best teacher and I learn the most from you.
That was an awesome example you made out for us. I understand now. Off to go get my line wet...

Rod Power: How stiff the backbone is, has nothing to do with rod tip. Rod Action: How fast or slow the rod tip returns back to straight when bent.
Fantastic video! Thank you👍

Great video very good info !!!
Thank you very muchfor your information. it had been very useful... Do you know if there is a fishing rod that may be used for bait casting and spinning reels?. is not because i want to safe money purchasing only one rod ... its to difficult to carry two fishing polls than carry two diffetent reels.
so between a 7'9" medium heavy moderate rod and a 8' heavy fast rod which one would be better for pier fishing thanks?
Thank you for the free info..My 10 yr old son and I are beginners..and this video helped 🍺🥃

Great video.....can i use a medium fast action spinning rod for silicon lures or i will need faster action;
I love your videos. quick question. I have a 6'6" browning vectra medium action with a abu black max that I bought at a fishing flea market. what style of fishing do you think this would be good for? top water, crankbaits, worms, etc.?
What a great video! Thanks! I would like to ask, white power and action do you reccomend in order to have good spring back behaviour! I am looking for slow pitch jigging for 200gr (5-7 oz) lures, and 70mtrs depth. I need easy parabolic bending (moderate action?) and fast spring back move! Any blank to suggest?
Hey I just got a micro magic pro and it's a 7'0" medium heavy, how do I tell the action of it? Is it fast, moderate how do I tell?
Go Dawgs! I'm sorry to be so dense, but most rods I see will say on them - light, medium, or heavy action. I don't ever see anything on there about power. I am trying to learn how to use circle hooks for catfishing. The article I read recommends a moderate fast action rod. I don't recall seeing a rod that says fast action on it? I'm so confused!
Thanks Gene...very good info.

Great info! Thanks!
Good video! Very helpful.

I like fishing breaking stripers with 3" to 4" top water hard plastic lures like spooks and poppers. If I try to get my boat too close, the fish go deep. What power and action rods will get me the most distance on a cast with that type of lure so I can keep some distance from the breaking fish?
Please help: If I am using a crank bait I need to use a moderate action rod. If I am using Texas rig, Carolina rig etc I need to use fast action rod. What power should I get for these two setups? Medium, medium heavy or heavy?????
Great information, thanks
nice to see a video again.ive missed them great job

I know your talking Bass here but with Catfishing MED/HEAVY fast action is all you need unless your in to some huge Flatheads in some realy thick cover then Id grab Heavy action with x fast tip. Nice video man keep them coming .

I have set up a saint Croix 7'11" heavy power med fast with an Okuma komodo 364 6.4.1 what would you through on this set up. I also set up a Lews 7.1.1 on a Saint Croix 7'1" Medium power Fast action same question on what you would through on it? Thanks for your time!
