    It took me a while to realize this, but tony isn't crying for his mother in the last scene, he's crying for the good mother he never had.

    It took me a couple watches to understand too. “He can’t possibly see his mother like that, can he?” He doesn’t. It’s the mother he wish he had.

    It's wild to think that David Chase's idea for the show would have had Livia live through the duration of the show, constantly being a source of tension and angst for Tony. When Nancy Marchand died, it forced him to have to alter the show a bit.

    The subtle joke of Tony saying the kids can go in the pool and patsy’s blank reaction knowing he just pissed in it 😂 and the very ending of the episode showing the fbi is going to be listening to a lot of conversation that doesn’t interest them

    The music in Sopranos episodes is rarely acknowledged by people reacting to this series. The series creator, David Chase, uses the music like a character. The outro music has meaning but nobody reacting to the series ever talks about it. I know copyright probably keeps you from playing it, but you'd be well served to view the outro music as part of the episode and pay attention to the lyrics. The music that was being cross faded with 'every breath you take' is a song named 'Peter Gunn', the theme song for a TV series of the same name from 1958-1961. It was composed by Henri Mancini and the show was one of the first detective series made for television. The Peter Gunn theme won an Emmy award.

    The movie Tony was watching is 'The Public Enemy' 1931 starring James Cagney. Watching the first gangster films with Cagney and Edward G Robinson you understand where it all came from.

  • @NoChance345
    @NoChance3455 ай бұрын

    That song you were talking about is called "Every Breath you Take' by the Police. It fits perfectly with them being spied on. The whole song is basically "every step you take, every move you make, every bond you break, and every word you say, I'll be watching you." From the name of the band to pretty much all of the lyrics it fits perfectly with being under surveillance by the Feds.

    You're the best Sopranos reactor in quite some time!!! I can't wait for you to dive into more mob content. Here's the movies you must see, if you haven't already. And I recommend you start peppering them in now. It'll boost your mob IQ going forward into later Sopranos seasons: (The Big 3) 1. Goodfellas 2. Godfather 1 and 2, skip 3 3. Casino The rest... 4. Donnie Brasco 5. Gotti (the HBO version, not the Travolta version) 6. Bugsy 7. A Bronx Tale 8. Once Upon a Time in America (not for everyone) 9. The Departed 10. Mobsters (guilty pleasure)

Like ofc he would be obsessed with it, be he is generally the most obsessive one in the crew, from superstition (like "3 o'clock" one), to this one, about public bathrooms (which he should btw, about public bathrooms and washing hands, in general about washing hands).

    Great to see you start season 3. The showrunners invented the Patsy character since they wanted to bring actor Dan Grimaldi back. David Chase said he figured that they can pull the twin card once per show, so they used it here. Patsy was actually first seen briefly in the season 2 finale bringing a fur coat for Carmela, but this was his proper introduction. The old woman in the wheelchair was the friend that Livia accidentally ran over with her car in season 1.

    I don't think Tony saw Patsy, because I can't imagine he wouldn't have killed him if he had... ...but "Hey, you have a son, right?" was ABSOLUTELY a threat. Patsy is ao depressed by this point that Tony can't count on him valuing his *own* life...but he's betting he'll still care about his family. "Put your grief behind you...or it may not be just you who's going to suffer."

    Yes the actress playing Livia dying in real life is why they killed off the character. I always wonder where the show would have gone otherwise. Livia was a big theme of the show, her impact on Tony, and mostly his whole reason for being in therapy. And then starting the story of her possibly testifying against him about the tickets........ There's a lot there that they had to change direction on suddenly.

    the situation with Tony's daughter is not uncommon in Italian families. It happened in mine and ther was a lot of arguing and conflict because of it. It's not exactly racism but at the same time it is. It's just that Italians in America have thinned out pretty significantly in the last few decades and while we don't have animosity toward other ethinic groups the preference is to stay within our own. Like Tony said he has friends and business associates that are black.
