This has to be one of my favorite MCU movies. An interesting concept where it takes a lesser known hero who resolves around magic. I love the other heroes it’s just they’re too obvious to be fans of. I know I sound like a hipster lol. Down the road you’ll meet a lot more lesser known heroes that I know you guys will love. Also fun fact. This movie is the first MCU movie to introduce the concept of the multiverse. The Ancient one talks about it while Doctor Strange has his first “trip”. You’re in for a wild ride.

So many Benedicts! Back when the MCU was starting up, Feige mentioned that they were going for a totally realistic approach to all this stuff (thus Thor's description of Asgardian "magic" as just being advanced science). Eventually, they realized that they maybe really could dip their toes into actual magic.

He spent years trying to bargain with dormammu btw, he died millions of times trying to save earth.

I'd seen some of the MCU movies before this one, but this was the one that got me truly invested! It does seem like another egotistical hero's humbling journey but it resonated with me so much due to also having gone though a serious incident that disabled my body, unable to live my life and do what I did prior to the incident. I'm still grieving the person I was, but stories like Doctor Strange's inspires accepting acceptance and finding other ways to live life. He traded his whole medical career for a magical one (that doesn't pay much if at all, lol). But he still has his intellect and quick learning, and I loved how he defeated Dormammu simply by trolling him endlessly. A nice change from most superhero movies that end in some giant battle. Another thing that stuck out to me is that no one knows what he did! He used to chase glory as a surgeon, but he just saved everyone by dying painfully thousands of times in a different dimension, and the world goes on with no one knowing what happened. While I love Iron Man too, it's very different with Tony coming out as Iron Man to bask in the glory. 😂 I also don't think it's fair to compare to Civil War since that's basically an Avengers movie where we already know most of the characters, but I can understand how you feel coming right off of that one. I just absolutely loved Doctor Strange for how different and meaningful it is, and I appreciate your reaction either way. I'm glad I found your channel and you're both so fun to watch. One bit of suggestion if possible is to not talk so much over dialogue, or pause the movie if you do have a lot of discussion you need to say at that point. I feel like many times you guys miss out on important information from talking over it, only to ask about it later or be confused at something when it was already clarified behind your talking.

As far as Tony watching Avengers: Endgame cold without seeing any of the previous movies you bring up a good point. You get to see how the eff did we get to End Game. Very interesting way to take the MCU ride. Wanda is Witchcraft while Doctor Strange is a Sorcerer. These are related but a bit different. Tony Stark is science while Thor is a lunkhead ogre. Interesting to compare witchcraft, sorcery and science. This movie had a tough slot in the MCU considering it followed up Captain America: Cap's Out Of Control which is a great movie. Not every movie will be at the top. As long as you enjoyed it, that's the big thing that counts. Mad Mikkelsen does get a bit of shade thrown at him for a generic villain performance as Kaecilius. Stephen Strange quickly earned the nickname 'Sparky' at Kamar-Taj. Wong thought it was funny.

This movie I didn’t love the first time I watched it…but revisit it a year or two from now and I bet you’ll feel much much different about it. That tends to be a lot of people’s experience. I think maybe once you get to know Doctor Strange’s personality more in other movies his origin movie is a lot more enjoyable. Where as the first time watching it is a bit confusing and Strange is unlikable as heck in this first film. But revisiting it you have a much different perspective.

I always saw Dr. Strange as a Indiana Jones type character. He is kind of an unwilling hero with selfish motives, who ends up fighting for the greater good out of situational necessity. Same type of snarky humor, as well.

Doctor Strange: Master of the Mystic Arts. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko who also was the original artist on Spider-Man. Wanda uses Chaos Magic. In the comics she cast hex bolts which altered probability. So she basically cursed people with Murphy's Law. Whatever could go wrong did go wrong. In the MCU she has telekinetic abilities as well as the ability to alter people's perceptions. 😊 The technical term is an out of body experience also known as astral projection in which the spirit is separated from the body. The bad news is the body cannot continue without the spirit. The body would remain in a coma-like state until the two parts are reunited. 😮 Doctor Strange makes use of two relics. The Eye of Agamotto created by the powerful sorcerer Agamotto. The other is known as the Cloak of Levitation which allows him to fly. 😂 Any entity known as the Dread Dormammu cannot be a good guy. Especially if he comes from the Dark Dimension. Lol. 😅 The Ancient One in the comics was a Tibetan style male monk. But that would not sit well with China so they race swapped and gender swapped the role to make it more palatable to Chinese audiences. 😮 Baron Karl Mordo is actually a villain in the Doctor Strange comics. A rival sorcerer who is somewhat power hungry. 😅

Do not research into Wanda maximum until after Wanda vision series. Also you should know a sorcery and witchcraft are two different types of magic. Sorcery draw energy from other dimensions which anyone can learn even if you're not magically inclined. Witchcraft draw magic from the user and cosmic forces around them. It seems like Stephen strange learning magic quickly but in fact from the events of the car accident to the end scene where he's looking out the window of the sanctum occurs over the course of 2 years.

For the record, I totally agree that this movie is good, but not the best MCU movie, and I totally agree that Captain America: Civil War was a better movie. Then again, Civil War might just be my favourite MCU movie, so obviously I'm going to think it was better... It's all subjective anyway, so others may completely disagree on that, and that's OK.

In the MCU Wanda, or the Scarlet Witch, her powers are Cosmic, meaning that they come from an Infinity stone. So her powers are inherent. There is no limit to her powers. Doctor Strange is a Sorcerer, meaning that his powers are elemental. Things like spells and objects. Doctor Strange, his power is only limited by how strong the spell is.

"The villain, I find the villain a little bit too generic." Me: He's even more generic in the comics. He was one of Mordo's three underlings (which is why I call Kaecilius's two unnamed disciples "Adria" and "Demonicus"), and between the three of them, they BARELY had any lines until they got on a bus to the Purple Dimension. The bus came back for a brief stop in a Jane Foster centric comic, and Kaecilius's face was drawn to look like the movie version. I do wish Adria and Demonicus had been similarly updated... Ah well. I do like the movie, but I do not like how it's resulted in an elevation of Kaecilius above Adria and Demonicus in the comics. It's like talking about the Three Musketeers, but you only talk about Athos while forgetting Porthos and Aramis exist.

To be honest, I've always thought they made a mistake by using Dormamu in the first Dr. Strange movie. He should have been the big bad for the third installment in a trilogy. Not an easily defeated floating head in the first movie. But they had to do it this way for what's coming up soon in the MCU.
