First time watching DOCTOR STRANGE (2016) | Totally mind-blown & surprised!

I think I used all my "wows" on this one!
"Dr. Strange" is an absolute mind-bender. This film takes us on an incredible journey through mysticism and mind-blowing visuals. This adventure transcends the usual superhero tale, diving into the realms of magic and alternate dimensions. Watch me be hypnotized by the spells, the spectacle, and the sheer awesomeness this movie conjures.
Marvel folded my reality like an origami crane! 😵‍💫

It’s one of the great things about the MCU, even for casual fans on a full MCU rewatch there are so many lines that sound like throwaway lines at the time. But during a rewatch they take on more meaning. Dr Strange in Winter Soldier Stark referencing Endgame in Ultron Cap with the hammer in Ultron Cap telling Stark he’s not the one to make the sacrifice play. The Air Force Colonel referenced in this movie is Roadie It’s something that’s been lost in the MCU post endgame.

I dont remember the exact number, but when Dr. Strange is facing off against Dormammu in the trippy light dimension, he apparently spends YEARS trapped in that time loop. He gained a LOT of experience in that moment facing off against one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse over and over and over and over again. He basically did a speed run glitch on becoming the sorcerer supreme 😅

Cool Tid bit, Bennedict also voiced Dormammu. Another thing, this movie came out a few years after Inception and everyone stated this took inspiration from that movie for the visualizations, but that is wrong. The comics of Doctor Strange have great visualizations and art. Marvel Studios did an amazing job adapting everything.

@erikawilliams9558 you missed the point. The visualizations for Doctor Strange happened in the comics back when Stan Lee and Steve Ditko drew it. That's why I'm saying people say this took Inspiration from Inception but that is wrong. The comics came way before the movie and along with their visuals, and that's why I'm saying they adapted everything very well. I hate when people say this movie took inspiration from Inception visualizations because it didn't, even though Inception came out before Doctor Strange.

You were right Cristy, you really hit the WOW-factor in this reaction! Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko created the Dr. Strange character over 60 years ago so you can imagine how things like the astral plane initially just blew readers' minds! The cloak is officially known as The Cloak of Levitation, and was actually blue in color in Dr. Strange's early days in the comics. In case no one else has told you rewatching these movies with you is such a fun experience. Sorry Joey didn't like it, but he should watch Guardians of the Galaxy II and III with you. Think back to "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". On the roof after Black Widow kicked Sitwell off the roof and Falcon caught him and dropped him back on the roof. They asked Sitwell about Zola's algorithm. He said it identified targets, Bruce Banner, Steven Strange.... Now you know who Steven Strange is. And at 5:16, someone tells Steven that they have a 35 year old Air Force Colonel with a crushed lower spine and Steven rejects that case saying "find something worth my time". That Air Force Colonel is James "Rhodey" Rhodes, (War Machine).

Is he some kind of doctor who treated his patients in a strange way?" N the list of questions just went on. Until i saw it on the big screen n it was INDEED insane! Introduced it to my dad n it became his favourite MCU movie. Looking forward to your nxt Marvel movie reaction! I hope you're doing well n everything went as planned on your side, Ma'am☺️

Believe it or not, you’ve heard Doctor Strange’s name before. When Jasper Sitwell is being questioned about what Zola had created for Project Insight back in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he mentions people who could be threats to Hydra, ending with, “Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange…” I love Benedict’s portrayal of Strange, he’s a really powerful character. I also had to have hand surgery when this movie was out on blu ray (relatively minor compared to the character) and am an amateur sleight of hand magician. Also, if you pause the movie on his watch the day he gets in his car crash, you can see the date; February 2nd, Groundhog Day… which also happens to be my birthday, and fitting since he saves the world with a time loop. I feel quite the connection to this movie as a result. Glad you enjoyed it, he’ll be back.

Here's a different recommendation. React to the movie Dead Again (1991). It's a noir suspense/thriller with a reincarnation element to it and a super twist at the end. It stars: Kenneth Branagh (Director of Thor), Emma Thompson (Branagh's wife back then), Robin Williams (uncredited for some reason), Andy Garcia (Ocean's Eleven), Wayne Knight (Cheers), Derek Jacobi (Underworld:Evolution), and members of Branagh's Renaissance Theater Company . The impressive soundtrack was done by Patrick Doyle who did Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Thor, and a lot of Branagh-directed films.

My problem with this is that it really cuts short the amount of time he was learning sorcery and doesn't explain how Hydra knew about him in _Winter Soldier._ I always preferred the theory that it was the test pilot who got spun in half wearing the Hammer prototype in _Iron Man 2,_ but info from a later movie (spoiler avoidance) contradicts that possibility.

Great reaction to a surreal movie! "Strange is a strange last name." Yeah, I went to high school with two brothers who had the last name of 'Bandit'. Weird names exist. 😀Also: they were not villains. Well, not in the two years I knew them. Previous Movie Crossover Moment: "I've got a 35 year old Air Force colonel, crushed his spine in some kind of experimental armor." Hey Rhodey. Dr. Strange finds you boring. Hope you recover anyway. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the arrogant jackass of Doctor Steven Strange so well. Like it is a second nature or something. 😲Let's hope not. The atmospheric surreality of this movie is so well done! Reminded me of the comics I read as a kid. And while I don't like Tilda Swinton as a person, she is an amazing actor. After that scene with Christine saving Steven in the hospital, and all the weirdness she saw in the process, she deserves a looooong vacation. Immediately. Or sooner. The city battle in the mirror dimension is stunning. Everything they do in the warping of the battlefield is just amazing. The visuals in this movie are extremely good. The final scene with the Ancient One is touching, as is the final scene between Steven and Christine in the hospital. And heartbreaking in ways. The twist of the looped time in the battle with Dorrmamu was great. And the cloak is awesome. 😀 I read the Doctor Strange comics when I was young, so I was waiting the entire time for Mordo to betray the Sorcerers and possibly kill the Ancient One, because he was always a villain in the comics. It was a nice twist to have him being a good(ish?) guy for most of the movie only to leave the sorcerers at the end and begin opposing them for reasons of doctrine.

Hi Cristy!😊 Dr. Strange and The Guardians of the Galaxy are part of the same universe as The Avengers, so eventually they will be integrated together as you saw in the end credit. When Dr. Strange gets a call in his car just before the car accident about an Air Force Colonel with a spinal injury they were talking about Rhodey and his injury falling to the ground in "Civil War". I liked the character of The Ancient One. I was sad they killed her off.😢 Great reactions to this visually entertaining and well-made film, Christy!!!🎬👏👏👏👏 P.S. - Joey is an adorable doggie!

Hey Cristy! Dr. Strange, Spider-man, Avengers, Guardians, etc. are all in the same universe, just different parts of it. Comic nerd info: In the comic the Ancient One is a dude, Mordo is white, and Wong is Dr. Strange's manservant. I mention because people get upset at gender-swapping and race-changing of characters. But in this case, those changes were definitely needed, and made the story a lot less offensive to a contemporary audience.

I still say you should watch black widow movie next since the story takes place after civil war. It did not get the recognition that it should because it was anti climatic after the final Avengers movie. It belonged immediately after Civil War. Just don't watch the end credits. Ask others.

  • @JaggerG

In terms of timeline, yes, but as far as plot goes, it's not relevant enough to go immediately after. By that logic, Captain Marvel should have been seen right after the first Captain America, but then there's a massive gap until their next appearance. That said, I can at least agree that it's too bad she didn't get a movie until phase 4. Same for Clint. But at least they both introduce more characters.
