LYRICS (English Translation):
Who knows since when it has been pouring, this rain
Not knowing its meaning, just drenched in it
Unaware to even the sounds it made, I gazed on
At that single spot where the clouds parted
I could not trust in anything
And time went by pointlessly
Put an end to it at last
Just look towards tomorrow
I can fly for sure, with these wings
Day after day
Long for an angel of salvation
Embrace me until you break me
When will you come?
I seek it even now
That small hope which should be there
Between the tears, slipping through
Wanna go to the place I dream
With every blink we take
There is a sparkle that is lost
Across a night, as time passes on
We do not realize the things that we lose
Continuing the fight with loneliness
Even then I just want to be laughing
Tomorrow's sun will shine on me still
Believe and fly high, with those wings
Where are you now?
Where is my angel of salvation?
These feelings will not disappear
When will you come?
I seek it even now
That small hope which should be there
Drying even my tears
Wanna go to the place I hope
We always feel it, that cold shock
We hurt each other, confirming
Frustration and lingering emotions
But we know the futility of it all
Sadness transforms to pain
And even if it devours me
I will look forwards towards a tomorrow
I can fly for sure, with these wings
Day after day
Long for an angel of salvation
Embrace me until you break me
When will you come?
I seek it even now
That seed of the heart which should be there
Between the tears, slipping through
Wanna go to the place I dream
Constantly in fear of something
Even the sound of the wind pierces my body
Meaningless thoughts pile on within me
Not knowing what is wrong
Forming a vision, and believing just that
I can fly for sure, with these wings
Day after day
Long for an angel of salvation
Embrace me until you break me
When will you come?
I seek it even now
That small hope which should be there
Where are you now?
Where is my angel of salvation?
These feelings will not disappear
When will you come?
I seek it even now
That small hope which should be there
Drying even my tears
Wanna go to the place I dream
Wanna go to the place I hope

Vocalists voice reminds me Steve Perry in his day. Masatoshi Ono was 45 ys old at this MV, and now 57 with still forceful voice. Almost same age as members of Ningen Isu.

Coincidentally I discovered this band this week when I found a website with 500 Japanese artists listed. This venue looks very similar to the one used by Lovebites in music video Glory to the World.

The venue is quite famous in Japanese metal. It is commonly referred to as the metal church although it is actually Casa d' Angela in Yokohama, a wedding chapel. Many metal bands have fiilmed their videos there. Aldious's Dominator for example. And yes, Lovebites filmed their video there too.

Galneryus has done heaps of amazing songs also for the first half of the band they had a different vocalist YAMA-B and their style evolves and changes throughout the years. So some good songs I would recommend are the force of courage, raise my sword, angel of salvation, brutal spiral of emotions, whatever it takes (raise our hands), T.F.F.B, destiny, hunting for your dream, ultimate sacrifice, everlasting, whisper in the red sky, struggle for the freedom flag, united flag, the flag of reincarnation, and chasing the wind.

I dont often listen to Galneryus but every now and then i have to go and search for one of their tracks just to enjoy the level of musicianship, specially coming from Syu. The technique and feel the guy has playing that guitar i rarely seen.

Nice reaction guys! A little fun facts, the drummer for Unlucky Morpheus FUMIYA used to be the drummer for Galneryus. He recently went on tour with them to fill in because they needed a drummer. There's a live video where you hear the eruption of the crowd when he's introduced. Fuki also did a collaboration video with the guitarist Syu and the video is available on KZread 🤘😊🤘

That’s very interesting. Artists in Japan do a lot of collaboration and support gigs. Fumiya is a standout drummer and a joy to watch perform. Unlucky Morpheus used the same church for one of their music videos.

Well, J-Metal is not my scene, but these guys sure sounded awesome! The singer had a great voice (which for me is the main thing usually 😉), but what really made my jaw drop was the guitarist. That guy was freaking amazing. I would really be curious to hear more from this band. Thanks for sharing this 😊

Syu is a guitar god for sure ... but ... he'd better be. If you're going to reinterpret a Tchaikovsky violin concerto, you'd better be good enough to match a violin soloist.

Ten years ago, Galneryus was probably the most successful Japanese Power Metal band, although I would have preferred Light Bringer (I didn't listen to either at the time). Today, Lovebites is the most successful Japanese Power Metal band in Japan and worldwide. I have never been a huge Power Metal guy, and there have not been many Power Metal bands that have grabbed my attention. My all-time top 5 would be (alphabetically) Angra, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Kamelot and Lovebites. Galneryus is a very talented band and Syu is a world-class guitarist but their neoclassical sound is simply not heavy enough for me, especially over the course of an entire album.

I decided to give this track an other chance, but I really can't stand this typical epic power metal sound, mainly in the melodies from the instruments and the type of vocals/vocal melodies. I also find that a lot of power metal has pretty boring drumparts, they are fast and without a doubt difficult to play, but generally stay the same over the whole song (and multiple songs). Galneryus are incredible musicians though and I understand why people love this sound, but it's really not for me. It has basically the main ingredients why I generally don't like power metal too much. The solo was incredible though. But, I have gotten some recommendations in a commentsection a while ago and someone pointed me to a video with all the different eras from the band and I enjoyed some more than others. I might give the era with Fumiya (the drummer of Unlucky Morpheus) a chance, but I am pretty sure it's just too power metal for me. I haven't found any power metal bands over the years where I love every single power metal track (I typically love the more thrashy tracks), it's usually they I love a couple of them, enjoy a bunch more and dislike most of them. Especially this epic sound (it always reminds me of Disney songs) just isn't for me. But again, damn are they great musicians.

Great comments. I agree that not every song/track from an artist will be likeable/enjoyable. Variations of the metal genre are numerous with Japanese bands often incorporating elements from other genres to widen the appeal. In general much pop music takes on familiar arrangement and production values. Some call it sausage machine music. My preference is for music which charts a slightly unpredictable style, less boring and more intriguing. Some Galneryus tracks fit this style. Do you have a favourite band / artist ?

  • @MaartenT

@DJAYPAZ I don't really have a favourite band necessarily. My favourite list at the moment as far as Japanese artists goes is probably Band-Maid, tricot and I guess Asterism (not a huge fan of most of their tracks with vocals though), but there are plenty of others which I at least enjoy a bunch from. But I have listened to so many genres over the years (from electronica subgenres, some hip-hop/rap, ska/reggae, jazz, modern classical and obviously rock and metal including a bunch of subgenres) and I found a lot of bands that I like a lot or love. There are too many bands to name, but my most played one (at least at home since 2006 according to a scrobbling service that I can't name here) is Tenhi. To be fair, I put them on during evenings/nights as well since I use music to relax before going to bed and my wake-up alarm (where I tend to play harsher music) is the only time I use a mixed playlist instead of listening to albums. Tenhi is not going to be for everyone though, they are a Finnish Neofolk band and I imagine a lot of people (especially coming from Japanese music with all the twists and turns) will find them boring. The genres I listened to most before getting into Japanese music was probably black metal, thrash metal, death metal and doom metal as far as guitar based music goes and ambient/modern classical/downtempo and neofolk before going to bed (I still listen to those before going to bed).

@@NJR-wh6ic Not for me as far as style/genre goes, that typical Japanese melodic power metal really isn't my thing. But both of them are technically extremely good, that's for sure and I am sure power metal fans will eat up everything they produce. I actually do own one of Hizaki's live DVD's/CD (the one that has Jill on it as a guest on violin, I love Jill's violin playing) and while it's extremely impressive musically, I have a hard time listening to more than a couple of tracks at a time. Hizaki is also someone where my sister had to correct me multiple times in a couple of weeks time, when I was just getting into Japanese metal and rock, that he wasn't a girl (my sister already knew about Versailles for years before I got into Japanese music). Edit: Funnily enough your comment reminds me a bit of a reaction I saw recently where they asked the reactor (who hardly knows any metal) to react to black/doom band Bethlehems' "Schatten Aus Der Alexander Welt" and almost everybody in the comments was hating on the track and the band (and I understand why). That album is extremely difficult to get into even for people who are used to black metal and I wouldn't even think of showing it to reactors that are not used to extremer metal genres. The main reason is probably because of the extremely abrasive vocal style, but also because black metal is in a lot of cases not melodic at all and that's what a lot of people are looking for in music. I can almost guarantee you the majority of metal fans will absolutely hate it after a couple of seconds. I have grown to like that album after getting more into black metal over the years (it took a while) and I do actually listen to it every once in a while. And while I wouldn't even be close to say they are among the best or my favourite metal bands, it just shows how different tastes can be. I prefer that Bethlehem album over Galneryus of Versailles power metal any day of the week. I wouldn't call them better, and I guarantee you they are not as good technically/musicianshipwise, it's just personal taste.
