I'm 50 and when I was young I dismissed Kenny Rogers absolute talent while my dad just adored him. Now I am old enough to realize men like Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers are few and far between. My dad had this kind of love for my mom. Now he is gone and I think about the man he was and how much I was blessed to be his daughter.

I'm one year older and I loved Kenny, Dolly Parton, and old, classic country. This is the Kenny Rogers that I will always love and remember. Plud, growing up on Hee Haw. Britt should do some Hee Haw reactions. That would be awesome!

Kenny Rogers was probably my late wife's favorite artist, his song with Dolly Parton, Islands in the Stream was her absolute favorite song of all time! We enjoyed 48 years together before she passed!

There is something he does, so subtle, that shows how comfortable, and in command, he is when he is live on stage... he is walking, singing... and without any effort, just a subtle flick of the wrist, he moves the mic cable out of his way.... it goes unnoticed by most... but says everything about his comfort in front of an audience.

Kenny goes all the way back to the late 50s both as a solo artist and member of groups, in the early/mid-60s he was part of the very popular group New Christy Minstrals and later the lead singer of the 1st Edition. Later he got into country, predominantly, but never shied away from pop, rock, jazz, blues, etc. Amazing talent!

My favorite version is when he and Lionel show their love for each other while performing Lady.

Kenny Rogers had this beautiful smokey quality to his voice. This song is one of his best. If you want to hear a really hot song listen to Something's Burning. Dolly Parton did a cover of it for her Treasures album saying it was one of her favorites Kenny ever did.

Lionel is nothing short of amazing. His body of work including his collaboration with Michael Jackson on “We Are the World”, really deserves so-much respect! Kenny really did him proud with this one.

Ralph! I remember as a kid how haunting Kenny was on "Tell It All Brother" and The First Edition. He was a vocal master in every era of his career.

Rightfully this song was on the R&B charts for quite a while. It's not even a crossover, it was always pure soul, and speaks both to Kenny's genius, and Lionels.

Love this song and "Through the Years" are two of my favorite Kenny Rogers songs. Now that my husband and I approach our 50th anniversary "Through the Years" has special meaning and my husband has always considered me his "Lady". I have always loved Kenny's voice no matter what genre he is singing.

Lionel Richie didn't just write the song (he performed it as well), he wrote it specifically FOR Kenny. Another great "panty dropper" song from Kenny is She Believes In Me.

You should hear both of them singing Lady together..WOW!!!

Both country and R&B got their roots in the church and the musicians can easily transition from one genre to the other. Some are more successful, such as Kenny, than others. Back in the late 90s, my sister and her high school choir sang with Kenny Rogers and Sawyer Brown at a Christmas concert at the Breslin Center in East Lansing,. Probably one of the proudest moments of my sister's life outside of having her kids. Also, I think Lionel Ritchie wrote "Lady" in one sitting in the bathroom just for Kenny. 🤣

Little tip: Lionel pitched this song to the Commodores and they turned it down before he had the lyrics written down. Then, Kenny approached him and he pitched it to him with an incomplete verse and finished it in the recording studio. It was a big hit and a classic!

yes, the Commodores as a band declined because they'd already done at least two other songs with Lady as the theme and didn't want to do another. I recall Lionel saying he went looking for Kenny to sing it because he felt the voice is right.

He was the Silver Fox. I grew up with his music. Love him. RIP

I can't even think of Kenny without thinking of this song. It got all of us revved up when we heard it; his vocals are incredible. (Lionel did an amazing writing job on this one, too!) RIP Kenny! You brought so much love and joy to the world with your music.

Kenny was one of the great singers of my youth. A versatile singer who had hits in multiple genres. If you like heartthrobs, you might want to also check out Julio Iglesias. Pretty sure more than one lady lost her panties to that great Spanish singer.

I remember watching this when it first aired. I was so worried his voice was going crash out on the low softly sung parts of shred away to an embarrassing squeak on the high dynamic parts. He pulled it off in spades, while casually strolling around stage like, "Eh, this is nothing. I walk around my home town everyday singing all my old and new hits."

My youngest daughter had a huge crush on Kenny Rogers when she was very young. She told me she was going to marry him someday. When she was 6 we were at the grocery store and she saw a picture on a magazine of Kenny's wedding to someone else. She broke down in tears. Could not console her for weeks. So YES ..he was sexy to women of all ages.

The story behind this song is hilarious and is well explained and told by the two of them in numerous live recordings. Lionel tailored this song very specifically for Kenny when he asked Lionel if he could write a song for him. On meeting up with Kenny he discovered Kenny had just met a beautiful upper class woman, that gave him the inspiration to write this classic for him. This song created a deep brotherly relationship between the two of them.
