The thing that impresses me the most about this performance is the way Kasey has moulded her interpretation of the song around the way Eminem has crafted his (brilliant) lyrics. The first 2 verses are written in the third person. They describe the fears and frustrations of a man looking from the outside. Her low key approach acts as a perfect narrative for these verses. In the third verse (things all changed) the lyrics switch to be written in the first person. This allows her to unleash the raw emotion of the 3rd verse. The fear, frustration and determination now become real because they are coming from within rather than the external narrative. A masterful performance.

Kasey has apparently been a fan of Eminem's word for years, and always wanted to do this cover. Between recording, writing and touring she didnt get the chance until Covid hit, and then she took time to focus on the whole composition

Kasey is a musical icon in Australia. Both parents are country musicians and she and her brother are multi instrumentalists, who grew up touring the country with their parents band. Kasey started her solo career in '98 and has so far released 12 studio albums. Inducted in to the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Awards) hall of fame she has 32 major music industry awards, 14 of which are ARIAs (highest music industry awards in the country, kind of like the Aussie Grammy's)

Kasey Chambers is a great and accomplished Australian country music singer-songwriter. She started her career at the age of 16, in the family band 'Dead Ringer Band' before persuing a solo career; she has won multiple awards and accolades for her 12 studio albums, and singles releases.

The sign on the wall behind you, Voice Of My Own, also applies to Kasey Chambers. For she truly has always had her own voice. Everything about this performance is a work of art. The lyrics, the band, the audience phone footage and of course Kasey's passionate delivery. All performed in the stunning heritage listed Civic Theatre in Newcastle, the perfect setting for such a dramatic performance.

This performance has been described as Rock-Ballad. It starts off as soft and easy going, then it becomes eerily haunting; and finally it the heavier approach. It's like a mother talking, or relating, to her children, becoming more meaningful; and finally compelling, as to dire consequences. Please remember, this is only my opinion; l think everyone will get a different feeling from this, relative to their circumstances.

Kasey has that ability to drag you along with the emotions of the song. I would recommend you try some of her songs, both to catch her 'normal' wheelhouse of blues/country, but also for the emotional ride. As with most Australian artists, live performances will usually be the best.

I love when other reactors who are also vocalists/vocal coaches react! Kasey is just a natural artist and performer…none of this is really thought out in advance. Kasey’s vocals just go with whatever she is feeling in the moment. Kasey has been performing her whole life (hence her innate ability to be 110% in the moment and her full comprehension of the ups and downs of the industry), is an absolute legend in Australian music, multiple award winner, youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, and was 46 or so at the time of this performance so that maturity really shows! Kasey is a massive Eminem fan and this was the result of her work during Covid lockdown, this is Kasey showing Em her appreciation of his awesome songwriting and lyrical ability. Her Dad Bill is also showcasing his awesome slide skills during this performance. ❤ Kasey is always at 110% during live performances. So damned jealous I wasn’t in Newcastle to see this live! 😢 BTW…this was an encore performance at the end of her concert! 🤯 She has lived these lyrics, she has been booed offstage, she has put everything into her solo career over the last 25+ years! Don’t think Kasey ever thought that this performance would go absolutely viral though and enhance her already brilliant career! Just wish we could have some sort of personal reaction from Em himself! His record company gave Kasey the rights to record and sell her version commercially but still no comment from Em. 😢 Love your analysis of Kasey’s vocals but you need to realise that this is Kasey’s natural live concert vocals… no thought put into vocals from her viewpoint…just pure natural performance ability! Almost 2 years later and this is still one of my favourite Kasey performances ever! Who has ever shredded banjo? 😂

Kasey has been a huge Eminem fan since he first stormed into the music world with his masterful lyrics. Eminem heard/watched this particular performance, called Kasey immediately, told her how much he loved it & told her to put it on her Spotify. Her father was on the steel slide. Their band 'The Dead Ringer Band' are mostly family members. Until I heard her sing this cover, I always thought she was a country singer, but my mind changed after this. I've now watched this dozens of times & get chills every time. The makes me proud to be Australian. For the brilliance of some outstanding Aussie singers try: John Farnham doing a Beatles cover of Help! with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. You'll swallow your tongue, at his vocal prowess. Matt Corby doing his hit 'Brother' live for Like a Version on Triple J; Guy Sebastian doing his hit 'Battle Scars' live for On the Homefront on ANZAC Day; Tina Arena with The Veronicas & Jessica Mauboy doing Tina's hit 'Chains'. * All mindblowing. Australian singers sparkle like our air & water. You're welcome. x Linda / LindyLu from Oz.

@rickmumford9837 most artists don't own the rights to their own songs, even if they wrote then. The 'publishers/promoters/labels' own most of the songs out there and control the copyright. The music industry has been like that for decades. Em a few years ago sold any rights he had of his early catalogue, Lose Yourself being one of them. So even 'if' he has heard it, he still can't give her the permissions. Plus, it's random people in the comments to reactors saying this, not the reactors like you're saying. I'm happy to admit I'm wrong as it'd be such a cool story on an awesome cover, but until someone making the claim actually provide a citation instead of 'someone in a comments section said it' or assumes because 'it's on her Spotify', I'll still reserve judgement. Remember, it's up to the person who makes the original claim to provide evidence, and as of yet, no one has been able to provide it outside the 'assumption' mentioned above. Even a google search using multiple different search words provides zero hits. I know as I've tried because I'd love it to be true.

Hi Jen, I have to be honest with you and fans of Kasey in the comments, I’m not the biggest fan of this song, while she is an icon for Australian music I just can’t warm up to her sound. Having said that, another amazing artist from Australia is John Farnham and one of his most popular and iconic songs that has become an unofficial national anthem almost since he wrote it is ‘You’re the Voice’ and I’d love it if you could give it an analysis and tell us what you think of it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKFmz8FyhczQo9I.htmlsi=UUBFwGOa2J2Ad-lG

I've seen dozens of reactions to this - this reactor talks too much and interrupts this "Masterpiece" too many times to take it all in. Em does a pretty good cover of our Kaseys song - just say'n 👏💪🇦🇺🎶🦘

Why don't you just watch the original video if you don't want to hear what the reactors have to say

Jennifer, YOU are NOT the expert...................She is. I'm glad Kasey taught you something. One of the worst reactions I have even seen and listened to.

I always love these videos, specially when somebody says they're a vocal coach if you were any good you'd be popular, not making videos on KZread

Lol i find the way vocal coachs get so excited describing the biology of the vocal tract hilarious. It always sounds like sexual inuendo to me even tho i know its not at all 😅
