Your reaction was a worthy analysis of Kasey’s epic performance and you did it justice, well done. I think perhaps some of the nay-sayers in the comment thread neglected to read the title of the video before hitting play, in which you described your content perfectly. I also happen to think that when Kasey herself see’s your reaction, she’ll learn a few things about her own performance that hadn’t previously crossed her mind. Really, great job 👍

Kasey has faced trials and tribulations in her life and career, the raw emotion she puts into this performance is so dynamic; a hit song from her 3rd(studio)album titled "Not Pretty Enough", is a commentary on the reluctance of commercial radio stations towards playing her music even though she had already produce many hits. She is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, having won many awards and accolades for her 12 studio albums and singles releases.

Kasey is probably the Queen of country in Australia. Her 25 year solo career started after 6 years with her families own band....mother, father, brother and herself 5 of her 12 solo albums went No 1 and with 14 Aria awards she was admitted to Australia's Aria Hall of Fame in 2018. Country is NOT my musical preference but you might like 2 of her own songs that were hits here in Australia..... Not Pretty Enough from 2002.....a rant at the music industries moguls. And.....Ain't No Little Girl.

Must be something about the land down under. Tommy Emmanuel played in a family band when he was 6 years old. They lived in a station wagon and traveled from town to town. He only turned out to be one of the finest acoustic guitar players that ever slipped on a thumb pick.

The thing about Australians and our artists, in all genres, is that we fully expect them to leave absolutely everything they have on the floor when they finish a performance. It's like we respect them more if they let it all out in a slightly unhinged, emotional rollercoaster ride.

The thing that impresses me the most about this performance is the way Kasey has moulded her interpretation of the song around the way Eminem has crafted his (brilliant) lyrics. The first 2 verses are written in the third person. They describe the fears and frustrations of a man looking from the outside. Her low key approach acts as a perfect narrative for these verses. In the third verse (things all changed) the lyrics switch to be written in the first person. This allows her to unleash the raw emotion of the 3rd verse. The fear, frustration and determination now become real because they are coming from within rather than the external narrative. A masterful performance.

Kasey was actually my very first live concert as a lad in Aus. 2002-3 and she was already massive here, I’ve seen her at least five times in the years since, and she’s probably the reason I kept a strong folk/country core in my music despite metal being more my wheelhouse! Love her

Kasey’s voice has always been absolutely heartbreaking, amazing how that tiny rasp and break can tip you over emotionally - I first saw her a couple of years before her family’s Dead Ringer band broke up. She was incredible! She sang her heart out, it was the best live performance I’ve ever experienced.

Love the way Kasey changed it up, but was true to the original lyrics. I'm not really into rap & until I heard this, there was no way I could have sung along with it. I'm a bit addicted to reactions to it. Loved your reaction & analysis ❤

Absolutely you need to listen to her more. Her breakout song was Am I Not Pretty Enough, a fu@k you to the radio stations who refused to play her songs. They played that on every station here in Australia. She has many albums. Her family's bwnd where she started was The Dead Ringer Band. She is a fan of Eminem' & her life mirrored Lose Yourself, which is why it resonates so deeply with her. During Covid shut down, with nothing to do, she took one of the most iconic rap songs of all time, tore it apart, restructured it, & made it her motherfu@king own!

Kasey's vocal approach throughout the song gives added gravitas to Eminem's lyrical genius by turning it, from the original structure meant to hype you up and urge you not to surrender to bumps in the road, into a cry of desperation from a woman who has been kicked and beaten down but will not ever give up. I love this rendition with all my soul. Epic song. Epic reaction.

There are so many elements to this song, it's worth watching a couple of more times. Or a couple of hundred like me.... LOL Beyond the heart felt lyrics and Kasey's passionate, emotional performance, there is also the band. From her father on slide guitar, the guitarist adding vocals, the base player, the drummer unleashed. But did you notice the guy on keyboards? Everyone plays their role in the drama!! Reactors will be watching this in ten years, equally inspired as we are today. G'day from Australia.

The beauty of this is those emotions were always there in the lyrics but the relentless cadence of rap doesn't allow itself to convey subtler emotions well. She truly took the song and made it transcend it's genre and become even better by doing so. I am pretty sure Mathers would be proud that she not only got it but was able to bring out just how good his songwriting truly is. The arrangement is insanely good taking it down speed wise by about 40% and the moment it goes all Janis Joplin is epic because of the relative stillness of what came before. Great reaction too.

I always liked this by Eminem, his fear and anger and determination - but from the first time I heard her version, this is the THE version for me. I don’t just feel the song with this performance, I live it. And its range of emotions is much broader than Em gave us. And I loved your reaction too - captured exactly what I feel too!

I think it's creepy when female vocalists train their voices to sound like the ghosts of little girls being tortured. Dido used to do this, too.

From the first it implies to me that you don't understand that music lyrics are mostly poetry. The music comes after for the most part.

Please don't be sorry for the pauses. Some reaction channels just bob along to the music and occasionally scream "that's amazing" or "that's so good" without explaining why. I come here to learn some about music and singing etc so I find out why a song moves me. Keep up the great work

@lynw.6140 Each to their own. Lucky for you, there are plenty of reactors who just bob their heads along and occasionally say how awesome the song is while rarely pausing. That's one of the things about entertainment in 21st century....there's something for everyone.

@@manbearpig7359 There’s also just the straight cut of the video that can be viewed without any pauses at all. I came here to see a reaction. The clue was the bit in the title that read, “FIRST TIME REACTION”, in a big bold font. It’s what I was looking for and her reaction was great.

She's certainly put everything into the performance. But unfortunately, her voice reminds me of chalk scratching a wet blackboard, so I've rarely listened to any of her music... I've been aware of it from "Not Pretty Enough" through "The Captain " etc. But it's just not what I like.

Kasey sang/played this song with her whole soul, and it was a delight to hear, but people need to stop suggesting it's better than Eminem's version for clicks. He wrote it and won a Grammy and an Oscar for it. There's no debate.

Why do I react to narcissistic singers?? I tell myself everytime! I was hoping her analysis was at the end. But no! I have to sit through them singing. Its painful! When will they realise that the music brings us to them not the other way around. I've already formed an opinion on the song. What you say doesn't matter. You need to go and critique a pub singer! 22min really?
