I've watch Jacob Collier's 2 hour long live stream and just wow. The excitement and the subtle changes throughout this blew my mind. Bridge Over Troubled Water will always be a song that moves me and I thoroughly enjoyed stepping into the world of Jacob Collier and how he progresses through the song. Love how he used the vocals from YEBBA from the recording he previously added to. And then John Legend and Tori Kelly - WOW! The smooth vocals AND riffs. WOW.

Jacob has released some small behind the scenes from the recording process. It's crazy. Jacob improvising some crazy riffs (as he does), Tori sighing (like"you're going to kill me Jacob"), and NAILING the riffs perfectly! S-tier vocalist, no doubt

I like how nonchalant Jacob is in his breakdown. He is all like: Yeah so in a week my Album was to be released and I had this idea. But unfortunately the part with Yebba was too short so I called up my good friend John Legend and he sent it within 2 days and then I FaceTimed Tori and asked her for the third part and I went to her house and we recorded it in an hour. I am sorry Sir, but what the actual f***? Then I saw an interview with him and he's talking about his guitar playing and he casually drops: Yeah me and my friend Joni Mitchell... My mind is utterly blown.

I absolutely love watching reaction videos, there's this connection you struggle to find with people in the real world, especially with music as niche as Jacob Collier (I live in the sticks and my friends and family listen to more mainstream media). this connection was enhanced with your thorough analysis but more than that, your expressive and emotional manner! I've always loved music and I hate that I only discovered Jacob as recently as just under a year ago. Thank you for such a brilliant reaction video Jennifer! Will be looking out for more from you!

The vision, creation, production and completion of JC’s songs are all re-affirmations of how absurdly talented and other-worldly imaginative he truly is. I’d consider myself fortunate to have dreams this vivid; to actually bear witness to something like this is a new awakening every time I listen to his music… I heard someone refer to Jacob as “the John Williams of vocals”. Excessive praise? I think not.

“Bridge Over Troubled Water” was written by Paul Simon in 1969 and recorded in 1970 with Art Garfunkel. “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” which is one of the most enduring songs from the past four decades, won the GRAMMY Award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1971. Special mention to Aretha Franklin for tearing this song up live on piano - Franklin debuted her version on March 5, 1971, during her landmark three night stint at San Francisco's Fillmore West, which was later released as Aretha Live at Fillmore West. The first DAW to be created is attributed to Soundstream, with their Digital Editing System, created in 1977. It wasn’t until 1989 that Digidesign release Sound Tools, the predecessor and base for the industry standard ProTools. Cubase released the VST format in 1996 which was a huge leap forward for the DAW world, allowing cross talk between different software. In 1981, Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits, presented a paper on the “Universal Synthesizer Interface.” Just two years later, in 1983, at the winter NAMM Show*, a Sequential Circuits Prophet-600 was able to talk to a Roland Keyboard over a 5-pin cable. And this partial history is how the world receives a Jacob Collier, and a Yebba, with a John Legend and a Tori Kelly collaboration on a Bridge Over Troubled Water. Peace be unto all Healing be unto all Freedom above all else be upon all R.I.P Aretha Franklin, Dave Smith and all we have lost to troubled waters everywhere.

Jacob was giving her the riffs note by note and she was nailing them easily. So no it was not corrected pitches . They have a video where you could see Jacob and Tori working on this song Jacob sings what he wants her to sing and she sings them . I do not think there is a singer in the world apart from Kurt Elling who could improvise those runs because either you need to know jazz harmony or you should have perfect pitch like Jacob and adapt immediately... It's a pity that you can not listen to it without stopping on your first time just to make this video. You are loosing the wovv factor even more. I cried my eyes out on my first time as a jazz musician and a big fan of all the names on that recording 😉😉

That is not a sensible comment as this is superb top tier analysis and far from "empty". That said, I did find the interruptions a little too much, as I think it slightly lessened the emotional impact and sense of the overall shape of track which you could have gotten from a first time listen. Of course that's absolutely your prerogative, and no doubt you will be able to enjoy endless listens straight through off-stream. But given how jam-packed the reaction already was with analysis, I think you could have afforded to let it run a bit longer in places, especially towards the end. For me personally it would have been fun to see a bit more of your emotional reaction. That said, great work - easily one of the best analyses I've seen!

@@AdamSpiers Is there a copyright thing where if you let too much of the song play without reacting KZread thinks you're just trying to play the song without permission or a license? I've heard less reactions than Jennifer's but I think she was pretty overwhelmed. I like that she talked about John's part because I've heard reactors kind of ignore him.

So I’m brand new to Jennifer’s channel - seems like most of what she does is break down music in this level of detail. The buzzwords are not empty if you know what they mean! :) All that said, it’s totally okay if this content isn’t for you - there are plenty of shorter reaction videos of this exact track out there. But… this is what she likes to do, this is the content she likes to make. It’s really inconsiderate to ask a creator that’s clearly found their own niche in content to tailor their work just for you, ESPECIALLY when there’s no shortage of content creators reacting to the exact thing she’s reacting to. Just… go somewhere else :)
