Eric Clapton said that Stevie was the best guitarist he has ever heard. ✌️

He switched guitars because he broke a string. Some of the videos on this performance show it; you can't hear any difference in when his string broke or when he switched guitars. He did lose a tooth and still went on like nothing happened. What a talented performer he was. There will never be another SRV.

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next day was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was Eric Clapton, SRV, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.

Brilliance. Not only technically gifted, but a lovely man.

One of the lines in this song was put on his gravestone... " Thanks for all the love you passed our way...."

This entire show was amazing. The techniques he uses throughout his performances are just ridiculous. He gives new meaning to a "sustain." His incredible high notes are impressive just before he brings them even higher, with no distortion. As I think you mentioned, mine sounds more like I'm picking on a cat. You've mentioned his vocals as being rather unremarkable, but I think you can see that his vocals are more a complement to his guitar style. Such a talent, gone far too soon. Thank you both for doing this month of SRV. More than 30 years since he was cruelly taken away, and we still love watching and listening to everything of his we can get our hands on. Some of the older audio and video from very early in his career are eye-opening. The raw talent this man possessed was extraordinary. Thanks again for doing this, and I hope you continue to investigate Stevie Ray. He was truly a phenomenon that rarely ever seen.

Hi, I just wanted to mention that I saw Stevie at that concert. The reason he changed out the guitar is because he broke a string. My all time favorite guitarist.

I was at this show also. 2nd row center stage. it was my 3rd time seeing him. and it was also my 16th Birthday. I was lucky enough to see him 3 more times.. the greatest guitarist that ive ever seen..

He was a good man. Great Guitarist!

SRV never ceases to amaze, does he? I don't know of any guitarist that isn't blown away by his natural talent, including all of the greats. He was a great choice for the spotlight of the month choice. I love his speech in the middle. What a world we could live in if more people heeded this advice.

This performance was a year or so before he got clean from cocaine and alcohol. You can see it on his face and even in his demeanor that he was in the throes of addiction.

@@alanberg5575 In 1990 he was clean and sober, and healthy. His life was on the right track, then he was killed in the helicopter crash. His band mates suffered from addictions, they were in and out of rehabilitation centers. His death left suffering depression, and addiction. Double Trouble are clean, and sober, but his death left a hole in their lives. We miss Stevie Ray as much as they do.

I saw him live shortly before he passed and he was phenominal to say the least and I was heartbroken by his death......I found out I was pregnant so emotions were high but my husband at the time felt the same way....we lost a very talented and beautiful human being when he passed❤

They interrupted whatever I was watching at time, for MTV News. They told the world 🌎 and I was shocked and saddened by his death. You should read his autobiography!!, We all love him and miss him!! @@jamesrichardson3322 yes I was blessed to have seen him definitely and I'm so sorry James you didn't have the chance to see him he was a sight to see with BB King of all people!!!! It was a last minute thing we got great seats cheap and something I will never forget.....I have read a lot on him but not his biography but will read his after Dave Grohls is done....cancer treatments left me with some issues comprehending when I read so it's slow going but I get there....at least we have all these wonderful videos of him to still watch😊

Every time I watch this performance, tears well up in my eyes. Maybe because I saw him in concert on Valentine's Day in 1987. He played this song and in his talk to the audience, he spoke about those we love and how sometimes we are separated from them by circumstance of obligations, like touring to support his album. I think we all have a moment in our lives called "The Day the Music Died." For some, it was losing people like Elvis, or Hendrix, or Morrison, or Joplin. Mine was when Stevie died. He can be emulated, but never replaced. Thank you for playing this performance on your channel. Well done, gentlemen!

Hi Guys, Thank you for your reaction. I can confirm that he did lose a tooth during his solo, that's what you can read on his lips when he talks to the technicians. I'm still a great admirer of SRV whom I had the chance to see on stage in 87 in Austin (a bit by chance). At the time, I did'nt know him and I discovered him on this occasion. Yes, the show must go on tooth or not, I can't imagine any artist today losing a tooth and continuing to play. I'm sure y'all will dive into more SRV and his career. Besides being a spectacular performer he was that and more as a human being Always giving credit to musicians before him and never a bad word to say about anyone. His brother Jimmy was his hero, even though Stevie surpassed Jimmy career wise, whenever asked Who were his guitar influences/heros I've never heard one response that didn't include his big brother Jimmy. Albert King(Stevie's Musical Godfather) did an album called In Session where they videotaped the whole session, it's great to see the 2 of them interact and play each other's songs and Albert at the same time trying to teach SRV some life lessons. It's definitely worth the watch, Albert ain't no slouch on the Guitar himself

Nice reaction from the two Ronnie's! having said that I am here because of SRV, the best Blues Guitarist in my generation! And listening to this song in particular was a BIG WOW moment for me! "Look at Little Sister" Live at Austin City Limits in 1989. He breaks a string during his solo, finishes his solo and changes guitars. Never misses a note. He switched to the white guitar because that's the one he plays when performing this song. The guitar's name is Charley, it was made by his guitar tech, Charley Wirz & SRV wrote the song in tribute to his friend & mentor on his passing. That's why he switched to 'Charley'. He & Albert King were two of his biggest personal influences. 'In Session' video with SRV & Albert King will give insight into SRV's major influence & is a joy to watch. Albert took SRV under his wing when he was 16. The jam session was recorded just as SRV was about to blow up.

If that was the case he would have switched it before the song , if you watch the video closely you will see a broken string hanging down on the first guitar and that is why it was switched

BP1 as a throwback to the 60's when songs had to be shorter than about two and a half minutes or AM radio would not play them, which meant that no one heard the song. This kind of made me sad, as I remembered just how much we lost when we lost Stevie. Today's reviewers underrate him, because his time was cut short. Oh well . . . Happy birthday, BP1! My birthday is next week too, although at my age I don't advertise it. Like Jack Benny, I tell everyone I'm 39

SRV loved the sound of that Red Strat with the black pickguard, but the strings would constantly break. He didn't use it a lot.

The name of the guitar was Charlie. Anytime he played this song he used the white guitar. It wasn't because it was out of tune. Als9 the country was South Africa during apartheid. This was before he went into rehab. He went into rehab in the fall of 1986. He always gave a speech during this song but after rehab he said I'd like to thank God that I'm alive and well to be with you tonight and then go on. He went into rehab at the same time as his bassist Tommy Shannon who was his best friend as well. Tommy wanted people to know what a sweet man Stevie was more than what a great guitarist. Stevie helped alot of people go to sobriety quietly including Bonnie Raitt. He helped alot of old blues guitarists as well. There's alot to say . He was very humble

I'm watching this in tears for a friend and remembering when SRV passed it was heartbreaking to lose such a beautiful person in SRV....that being said he was amazing to see him change when he broke a string and never missed a beat!!! A Hendrix documentary said he learned 'guitar tricks' to entertain, and stand-out from the crowd of guitarists, while he was learning his trade, playing "the circuit". I _think_ the docu. said 'the circuit' was very competitive. It was smart to excite the audience, and get invited back by the venue owner.

He played at President George H. Bush's inauguration, it's like a mini concert. Shout Factory has that video, he plays three songs, it's a great video.

Glad you finally got to this one as suggested by most of us here. Two more you might want to consider are his "Sound Check" with 22M views and probably too long for BP1 and "Mary Had A Little Lamb", yeah the nursery rhyme, from the 1989 Austin performance.

Kind of interesting from a tech angle and different guitar tone aesthetics, witnessing the obvious output/tone differences between his initial guitar and that of the second one equipped with lipstick-style lower-gain pickups; each through the same cord, into the same amp. One of those less-common times that required him making gain adjustments not only on his floor pedals, but also knob-twisting excursions over to his amp stack as well. Love hearing such a magnificent player cranking the absolute heck out of an otherwise mellow-toned lipstick pickup guitar

If you rewind a bit, you’ll see him signal off stage and then nod his head before the guitar change. It’s pretty smooth though, clearly. 😂😂

Notice he switched to the white guitar. He often changed guitar if he didn't like the sound or couldn't tune it to his perfection. He became the proud owner of Charley, a white, custom-made Stratocaster style guitar named after his good pal Charley Wirz who built the instrument. Wirz built Charley in late ’83 with three Danelectro lipstick pickups, and engraved “To Stevie Ray Vaughan, more in ‘84” on the neck plate. Stevie often played Charley during “Life Without You,” which is said to have been penned as a tribute to Wirz after Charley's sudden death. He lost a tooth, 16:40 says, I lost a tooth sorry, notice he kept looking down and around for it.

Actually this is concert is before Stevie entered rehab. He did not get clean and sober until the second have of 1986 when he did enter rehab in I think Atlanta Georgia.

Being a hardcore Stevie fan, I would guess the guitar swap was because of a broken string. Saw him do it live. Like this time, couldnt tell from his playing he did anything at all. Didnt skip a note. GOAT!!!!!

It was fun watching you guys pick up on the guitar change. A lot of other reactioners miss it completely. His passion and focus on stage was incredible. Aside from the behind the back and teeth stuff, he was playing an incredibly soulful well crafted solo with his typically expressive vibrato and pitch bending and with fantastic tone. It grips me every time I see this video.

U should've just re-watched it, it was just 20 seconds prior....if u had, youd have seen him signal his guitar tech, quickly, with eye contact & a nod of the head, twice....he hands them the old guitar, & they quickly (that the neck/headstock u see in frame), & then they discreetly, help him ready the new one, he left his guitar strap around his shoulders, & they just fastened the new one onto it.....he was having a tuning or intonation issue, or something....he was rough on guitars (not like kurt cobain was tho) & needed a good tech team

He does appear to spit out something & does say " I lost my tooth, it's gone", I am assuming perhaps he knocked off a cap maybe??? Other postings do say he lost a tooth.

Stevie changed guitars on this song to use the White Strat pieced together for him by a Dallas music store owner named Charlie Wirz, who had dided the previous year.... He breaks strings in other videos "Look at Little Sister" but this time it was for the simple reason of showing respect for Charlie by playing this song which is about losing a friend using this guitar. All the adjustments to the amps and pedals were for even more feedback. He also lost a tooth while playing with his teeth. You can see him talking to the crew member about it being gone. He was also sober at this point in his life and almost always gave a short speech during this song. A more talented and honorable man you will never find.
