This is the video from their album recording (We Like It Here) and the live audience is hearing the master mix on their headphones. Every song from this session is just as nuts as this one. And yes, the drummer is cray, especially considering that he learned most of the songs during a long flight to the session, after the scheduled drummer had to back out at the last minute. Larnell Lewis. Freak of nature.

It's a kind of studio/live performance with an audience for energy. Snarky Puppy is like a red pill ;)

Talk-box is basically a tube with one end attached to a driver-let's call it a miniature speaker for simplicity's sake-and the other end is placed near a mic(obviously). The driver box generally has a footswitch to activate/deactivate it. You pass your signal (it's more widely known as a guitar effect, but of course here it's a keyboard) through it. When activated, the sound from the "box" travels thru the tube and into your mouth and you use your mouth to shape the sound which is caught in the live mic. That's about the size of it. Close enough for rock and roll, anyway! :-)

This was written as a feature piece for keyboardist Shawn Martin written by the trumpet player. When you watch “Lingus” later in this album, perhaps you’ll understand why Shawn was shaking his head over Corey Henry’s keyboard solo on that song. Shawn thought he’d have the feature piece on this album until he heard Corey’s solo and realized that solo would be eclipsing Shawn’s feature song.

this was the live recording of the album "we like it here" . point to note that most of the musicians learned the whole album in less than a few days before performing and recording live (and Larnell on drums learned the while album on a flight over there)

The mouth piece he was singing into was introduced famously by PETER FRAMPTON, the song "DO YOU FEEL LIKE WE DO" released 1975

Headphones: all of the synths are direct to mixing board. They are not running through amps. If you didn't have headphones on, you wouldn't hear them. Secondly, the audience - and the musicians for that matter - get to hear a balanced mix without one instrument or nearby instruments drowning out the others. Far better.

The band members all have red headphones. The audience all have silver headphones. They have different mixes. This is how Snarky Puppy records albums.

My suggestion is do their newly released “Trinity” extended version. They are a constantly evolving collective of extraordinary musicians.

Dude, if you were in the room without headsets you would probably come out of the Studio Deaf!! Plus, if you were sitting next to the drums, how much would you hear the amazing keyboard guy?

I may be wrong on this, but I think everyone hears the music equally with the headphones, because the horns and drums/percussion acoustically dominate the room otherwise.

Such exaggerated reactions that don't match the vibe of the music at all. Terrible reaction
