I've been waiting for you guys to get around to this song. It's like the gates of Heaven swung open when Marvin let this go. Very few artists throughout history could have a magical effect on men and women like this. Keep in mind this song was made 50 years ago! The world would be in much better shape now if the music industry stayed on this path.

It was the very last note. The way Marvin expressed it...it sounded like a wounded spirit doing a death moan. Superbly emotional!!! I've made that sound...that is a "man cry."

His voice is “haunting”. I think that’s one way you can describe his voice… His vocal range is unparalleled as a male vocalist in my opinion… Maybe Maxwell compares favorably in that way… I can’t think of many more artists though. Absolutely, uniquely talented

This song made me a Marvin Gaye STAN. I was reading his autobio with David Ritz - Divided Soul...and they spent some time talking about his relationship with his first wife Anna....and this song was mentioned. So - I said....let me listen to it. Boyy...that was IT. His best music - was his most personal music IMO. p.s. I don't know about surround sound - but I have Bose headphones....and THIS SOUNDS AMAZING with them...it did before.....but Marvin's music deserves the best speakers/headphones that I have (or can find).

It is probably the best slow song I have ever heard! The instruments, the background singers, the "hollowness" effect on the vocals and instruments, the violins!.... Thank you very much!!

This is one of the transcendental tracks that made Marvin Gaye a legend. It's about the breakdown of his marriage, further explored in the brutally honest and at points equally heartwrenching Here My Dear album. Another otherworldly Marvin Gaye track is the 1974 live in Oakland version of Distant Lover, superficially a sexy love ballad, but he is really singing to Tammi Terrell, his duet partner and probably soul mate who had passed away.

I grew up on Marvin Gaye. We literally cried when he died. He is my ALL TIME favorite Artist, wit his demons & all. Listening to his music opens up my Heart Charka and causes me to cry [cleansing tears], pour out of my spirit, and fall in love [to easy, quick, and soon]. LOL It' is truly a spiritual / sexual healing experience FOR REAL. However, I learned years ago to keep Marvin's music OUT OF my "musical dating playlist" because due to the frequency it stirs up in me, Marvin's music will f@&% around and have you IN LOVE wit a stranger. Yes, it's that deep. ROFLMAO
