Hard to find a bad Marvin Gaye song. The mid 70s Marvin was on fire! He changed music in such profound ways. The way music is edited today was created by Marvin...ie overdubbing his voice.

'I Want You' is my favorite Marvin Gaye album, mainly because I remember being a little kid who listened to this as a new song played on the radio (WDAS FM) in our living room... 1976... Even now, you gotta be blown away by the production, with the orchestration enhancing it, because, in 2022, that level of artistry and musicianship is damn near nonexistent. Yeah, I understand that times and technologies have changed - and will continue to change - but has music really gotten any better since the mid/late 1980s? I love and respect a lot of what's happened since then but has it? I don't know, man. Comparing songs from different decades is... ridiculous, probably... but I can't think of a single R&B/Soul song that's come out in the past 20 years or so that can compete with this. Not one. smh

One of my favs, not as popular, but love it so much. And that technique, of Marvin overdubbing his own voice. Man he was the pioneer of that studio technique, which he used on so many of his hits back then. Some less popular: Come Get to This; Trouble Man (movie theme), then of course the more popular Let’s Get it On , What’s Goin On & Mercy Mercy Me. Not a bad idea to go through the whole album. But the moment they deal with What’s Goin On in that docu, Hitsville: The Making Of Motown , they play the layers of tracks as Marvin conceived it, just with one vocal & conga. It is sooo deep, gave me chills to hear that, the. Adding bass, etc. Anyway, great choice to react to. 👍🏽
