Labi Siffre, who sang the original of It Must Be Love, is one of the violin players

And he did a little cameo too
brief history of ska ska started in Jamaica in the 60's. the original rude boys found ska was too fast to dance to and so the slightly slower rocksteady became popular this slowed down even more and became reggae. during the 1950's and 60's a lot of Jamaicans came to live in the UK and they brought ska with them, then in the 1970's there was a ska revival in the UK called 2 Tone which was more than just the music, it was about ending racism by showing that there was no difference between black and white and we all liked the same things, especially the music. there were a lot of punk and pub rock influences in the 2 Tone movement which dealt with the social issues of the day. Madness were one of the best known bands that came out of 2 Tone and were the best selling band of 1980, the other bands being The Specials, The Selecter, The Beat (known as The English Beat in the USA) and The Body Snatchers

The Brittish ska scene in the 80´s man. Was soo good! Jamaican bands came to play, and ofc it met punk. The outcome man... Just reading this, makes me want to go back to Camden 1989 and skank out to skatalites.
Madness was one of the leading 70s/80s 2Tone ska bands in the Uk. Yes, you hear reggae (not reggaeton) flavor. They are so fun, so dig in and check out The Specials along they way. Madness was huge in England. House of Fun and One Step Beyond are two of my faves.

They weren't 2Tone. 2Tone were Coventry, based, with The Specials, The Selecter and The (English) Beat. Madness and Bad Manners were London bands. All were great.

I saw them on TotP playing The Prince and had to buy it that Saturday.
This is a cover of a song by Labi Siffre back in 1971, He's the violinist who takes his shades off near the end.
Growing up in the UK in the 80’s was great thanks to bands like Madness…. A bunch of guys who enjoyed what they did, they had a lot of hits and every video was fun and silly…. Happy days !
Madness are a much loved national treasure. They had so many hits, over many years - they’ve performed for the Queen on the roof of Buckingham Palace. Giving a list of things of theirs to check is tough - some people have suggested some great tracks already but I haven’t seen and would recommend: Uncle Sam Baggy Trousers House of Fun One Step Beyond My Girl Night boat to Cairo Wings of a dove Driving in my car Grey day Michael Caine Just some of my favs off the top of my head. Suggs, the lead singer has such a cool vibe, and they were masters of the very very silly music video.
My dad is British and as a result I grew up listening to Madness. When I was a kid I was obsessed with their songs Shut Up, Benny Bullfrog and Baggy Trousers.
The song was by Labi Siffre originally and he doesn't get the attention he deserves, either. The Prince by Madness is a great track. Our House, too.
Their biggest hit was Our House but the one to check out is One Step Beyond.

don't forget Baggy Trousers and House of Fun
Madness are 100% beautiful.
These guys are SO MUCH FUN!
They were a type of SKA band so Reggae has a huge influence...SKA was big in the UK in the 60's but especially in the 80's
I recommend all of the songs Madness have done, so many no 1s it's silly! I also recommend you listen to Labi Siffre's song Something Inside So Strong, the song he wrote to pay homage to Nelson Mandela. Good times for music. 👍🏴🇬🇧
Mark 'Bedders' Bedford on Bass is the quiet but indispensable glue behind every standout song from Madness.
Classic.
A few years back they did a festival and the audience set off the richter scale! 😂
Fun fact, the lead singer suggsy saw an add for a lead singer, he rung them up and it was to replace him because he wasn’t taking it seriously enough but they had him back because they couldn’t replace him in time for the next gig 😂 glad he took it serious after that tho
Best Madness videos to watch: Shut Up Wings of a Dove Cardiac Arrest House of Fun Baggy Trousers
One of my fave bands. Check out Baggy Trousers.
It never made it yo number 1, but it peaked at 4 in the UK charts
It's SKA which was like pop reggae back in the day
It was really popular
Good one
Original version Labbe Siffre.....on the violin in the video
🔥
I would recommend Wings of a Dove, Baggy Trousers, House of Fun and for a different sound, Razor Blade Alley
The violinist who removed his glasses was the original artist from the 60s/
If you want a Madness song recommendation 1 One Step Beyond 2 Grey Day 3 My Girl 4 Embarrassment 5 Baggy Trousers 6 The Sun and the Rain
Who's originally written and recorded by someone else which I think it was the trombone player that was now passed away the brand of music or style of music is called ska music mixed with can either be a rock style or other
This got to number 3 in the u k chart. I think in 1981, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The only number one single madness have had is our house.
I guess Chrissie's stunt warning was about playing an electric guitar under water.
They are called madness aka the nutty boys for a reason. They are mad, in a good way.
For a serious challenge, in one sitting, you need to watch 2 separate videos. First watch the official video for the song Embarrassment all the way through without stopping. Afterwards say what you think it’s about. Then search for ‘Lee Thompson Embarrassment’ (uploaded by Adam Nicholls) - this tells you the actual meaning behind the song (about 40 years later) It’s quite affecting… Now that you’ve watched It Must Be Love… that makes a brief appearance… with deep meaning
madness is a ska band, which is a type of reggae
I recommend listen to everything Madness released before Our house. I stopped listen to them when they released that album. Madness helped to spread Ska over Europe in the eighties. 🤓🇸🇪

while I understand your reasoning, there's something about Wings of a Dove and Uncle Sam that makes them guilty pleasures in my playlist the first 2 albums are their best though
Ska music ❤
SKA music ✌️😉
Ska came before Reggae - Bruce Greene
Close but no cigar. This isn't Reggie, it's Ska.
I hear Bob Marley ...
You really MUST listen to the original by Labi Siffre. For me, it's far better
