I believe Madness were the most successful UK band of the 80s ..... in all they had 15 Top Ten hits ..... and they came from my area of London !

@@paultaylor9498 Not many UK bands 'made it' in America. Look at The Jam, The Smiths. Tastes were different then. USA had Bruce Sprigstein and Mihael Jackson; we had Madness and 2Tone bands and Mod and New Romantic stuff going on. Even The Sex Pistols weren't well received in America. Some of the band that you mebtioned were prety naff, because they tried to cater for both, and the litmus paper is how those songs sound now.

I grew up in Portsmouth. Madness had a big connection there as well. Look at the amount of times that Madness played at Fratton Park.

@paultaylor9498 Dire Straits,Spandau,Queen,Sheen Easton,Olivia Newton John,The Smiths,The BeeGees etc But being successful doesn't mean being popular in the States.Cliff has sold more records than most.He only had one or two hits stateside.

@@brokensilence6790 Power of the Ska !
I could listen to that sax solo over and over… wow!!
"It must be love" is another Madness song that is totally different.
Similar to one step, try Night Boat to Cairo. For a more mellow smooth vibe try One Better Day. Madness truly are chameleonic in their sounds.

Night Boat to Cairo is superb!
This is a remake of the original Prince Buster who released the 1964 One Step Beyond.
First class .love the sax .most under rated band in the UK .
Night boat to Cairo is a must .
The Nutty Boys. 🇬🇧
Great music ska music apart two tone music
Night Boat to Cairo
Thanks, Stan! Madness were awesome... hope you do more!,, yep, that MAD sax and ska beat!
They lived up to their name while making great music
Baggy Trousers is ska awesomeness. You might also like The Specials.
Short and sweet. A little 80's British Power Pop/Big Band music.
Love it!!!!!
YES!!! 😎😎😎😎😎
The Madness Walk
Instant mood-changer! 😁
The original is Prince Buster
An instrumental track that made the top 10 (as far as I remember) in the UK pop charts. They used to play this at the school disco. I was only 9 or 10 at the time. I was really into American Soul and Funk later on, but these early tracks we heard around us all the time made an empression.
There feel good factor music, I'm off to see them in Oct for the 5th time, taking my daughter to show her how it's done.
Imposible not dance with this song
Your face expression showed all
My step dad is the guy dancing in front of the phone booths
Wings of a Dove, Baggy trousers and Razor Blade alley will give you a good idea of their range
MADNESS NORTH LONDON AND ENGLANDS FINEST
Please do reactions to the music videos of The Specials "A Message To You Rudy, "Ghost Town" and The English Beat, their music video "Mirror In The Bathroom." Thanks! Looking forward to it!
Madness were great and had such a variety of songs. Embarrassment and Baggy Trousers sound light hearted (but have quite deep lyrics really), It Must be Love is a love song and Night boat to Cairo is more like this one.

Yeah all the album was great.
If this doesn't cheer you up nothing will. God bless the Nutty Boys
There are so many songs of theirs that are completely different. Try "Sugar & Spice". Or, if you're courageous, "The Liberty of Norton Folgate".
Madness is a BLAST. They were also the house band on a wacky British show that was the first non-music video show on MTV in early 80s called The Young Ones. Brilliant snapshot of post-punk counter-culture in Britain.
I love their collaboration with Ian Dury: "Drip Fed Fred" kzread.info/dash/bejne/aX6lw6mfnL2vfJM.html
This was originally done by Prince Buster kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6mfvM-idq7gn8o.html
This will give you a quick look into early ska and its influence in england in the 60's and the revival in yhe late '70s which is where madness, the specials, selecter etc fall in and the unfortunate rise of racist skinheads and how they tarnished the scene in the early 80's Also Don Letts was very influential in everything british sub culture from late 70s to even now, woryh looking into him if your interested very interesting man kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2Gg282hZpCqk5s.html
Try the original, by Prince buster. Skinhead moobstomp would blow Americans minds because the skins here weren't recist and listen to Jamaican sca
