*"Forget your lust for the rich man's gold, all that you need is in your soul."* Tell me a single line in any other song that strips the meaning of life right down to the very ground with the level of passion and blatent, honest sincerety as well as this one verse in Simple Man does. Ronnie Van Zant was truly a musical genius if ever rock saw one.

I believe all parents should sit their children down at some point and listen to this song together. GREAT STUFF!!!
My baby boy would get fussy, so I would sing this to him...42y later, my ringtone on his phone. 🤩 My only son lives a simple, satisfied and full life. ❤

Any song by Lynard Skynard is gold, but may I suggest " Call Me The Breeze".

"That Smell" is also really good lyrics.
As a mom of three boys, I cry every time. It’s all I want for them in this crazy world.
Call Me the Breeze, Got That Right, Gimme Three Steps…
A classic Skynyrd song. At least 10 artists have covered this song.
"Ballad of Curtis Loew" is a slow one from Skynyrd with a great slide. It's premium Southern Rock.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was the epitome of southern rock! Great band, great song!

Great people too. They're not turning out to be arseholes like so many others.
I was just a kid in the 70s, but seems like a cool band to hang out with. EXTREMELY talented.
This is my favorite song by them with a great message. Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. They had lots of great songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama", "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps", "Saturday Night Special" etc.

60s-70s after that it was a cover band
After Gary's mother and Ronnie's grandmother had passed away the two of them were talking about the advice the women had given them for how to live their lives and they decided to write a song about it. It took them about an hour to write the song. They probably couldn't have imagined that fifty years later people would be listening to it and talking about what a great song it is.
All of lynyrd skynyrd songs are awesome!! Back in the 70s it's like their songs were about us!! It's like they understood. If that makes sense. Give me three steps is an awesome song!
This band was so talented and had great songs in their short lived career, who knows what other great songs were to be but cut short.
The song I’ve dedicated to my Son since he was born 30 years ago🥰Used to rock & feed him singing or humming to him♥️🎶Means so much as we live a simple but fun country life that’s God, Family & Country. Everyone helps your neighbors 🙏🏻♥️
One of my favorite song from this band which no one covers and is a great guitar riff is "I know a little".

@@JaquelineGoodspeed The original was done by the songwriter, Steve Gaines with his band Crawdad. He gave it to LS for their last album. Ronnie did great when he hired Steve Gaines. It was so tragic that both him and his sister died in the crash. She was one of the backup singers, called The Honkettes. The backup singers weren't at the Oakland Coliseum performance but they were at Knebworth in 1976. Steve's version. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gohnuruOlcrPftY.html

@Sue Cook Oh I know skynrd. Love them. There's more to that crash then what was told. I believe Ronnie and the band had good hearts. And yes the band never got to really take off with Steve. He's one of my favorites of the band. The autopsy report on his sister, her throat was slit. But the industry covers that up. But the other band member died with his throat slit too. Coincidence? Nah.

RIP Simple Man
Their song "Call me the Breeze" is a banger, hold on to your chairs for that one or your gonna be dancing 😂
FIRST!!!....Happens to be my favorite band of all time!!!! Only 3 died from the band...singer, the short haired guitarist and his sister (back up singer)..and road manager all perished that dam day...the worst day in rock history besides the death of Hendrix! Mom dedicated this song to me way back in the mid 80s

And we appreciate you both! It really is a beautiful track!
'The Ballad of Curtis Loew' is another good one by LS. Curtis Loew is based on a compilation of people in Ronnie's neighborhood.
This MUST HEAR Classic comes with a powerful & uplifting message,, Argent "Hold Your Head Up"..TRUST ME on this one!!
Such a great classic song/message💪 Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd! Thanks!
This song is timeless and gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Glad to see you all discovering it. It was released on their 1st album in 1973 and AL Cooper who helped produce this album did not want to put it on the album. The whole album is awesome starting with "I Ain't The One." From 1973 until the plane crash in Oct 1977 this band made alot of great music. Great band and my favorite band. You should check out "Sweet Home Alabama" live from the same concert in Oakland July 1977. There are many others to enjoy. Thanks for the reaction.
Such a great southern rock band I remember when they first came out so many good songs and the tragedy of most of them dying in the plane crash this song is a reminder of their free spirit of ROCK AND ROLL 🤟 RIP L/S
I saw Skynyrd 4 times in the last 35 years, ‘86, ‘97, ‘16, and ‘21. They always played Simple Man.

Tuesday's Gone is the song that is the sister to Simple Man. Great vibe, nice message like this one.

Best song ever!!!!
Sang this to my son when he was born then danced to it at his wedding.
You should check out Shinedowns cover of Simple Man. I usually don't advocate covers, but this one is very good and a tribute to Ronnie Van Zant. Shinedowns original guitar player was married to Melody Van Zant, Ronnies daughter. If you watch the official video you will see a little girl holding a portrait of Ronnie Van Zant
Everything they came out with was great. But this song worked overtime at being just a simple message wrapped around some awesome instrumentation. I'm impressed that you two seem to easily see the meanings behind most of the songs you react to. My generation, I believe, had the greatest music in the history of music. Only sad thing is, we won't be around forever to continue the legacies of the great bands and singer/songwriters. I would like to see some reactions to writers like Carol King, Kathryn Bayer Sager, John Denver, Barry Manilow and so many others who helped shape the musical history of the 70s. Thanks you two for honoring the artists you've reacted to so. Keep up the greatness!!!
There's not too many people that listen to this music that are not touched in some way. Even you guys that have never heard one Skynyrd song in your life come away with positive vibes. That says all you need to know about this band......one that you will love and understand.
A more rocking one is their cover of "Call Me The Breeze ", and one of the most beautiful songs, if you can call a song beautiful, and I think you can, is Tuesdays Gone".
There is no one like them. 3 members passed in the plane crash. They went on after the crash. Ronnie's brother took over lead vocals. Band members changed over the years. But there was nothing like the originals. R. I. P ☮️♥️

I really love this song, me and my best friend always sing this together on partys, i think this Will be our funeral song ❤️
At 65 I heard Lynyrd Skynyrd from the first album till October 20, 1977 when the crash happened in a swamp in Mississippi because the plane ran out of fuel. Ronnie VanZant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines and road manager Dean Kilpatrick were killed plus the two pilots. Ronnie's baby brother Johnny VanZant took over the lead vocals for Skynyrd in 1987 and an guitarist for Blackfoot Rickey Madlocke who did play with Skynyrd for a very short time in 1971 as a drummer. Anyway, there is nothing i do not know about this band, even to say that the last album LS released in 2012 called "Last of a Dying Breed was the best Johnny and Skynyrd put out. I love every song on it and it was classic Skynyrd if you ask me. Anything else you wanta know about this group ask.
Classic mid-70's southern rock. I was fortunate enough to see them once before the crash and I've seen them several times since. They always put on a great show. Instead of recommending one of their obvious classics for your next LS reaction, I suggest you give a listen to an obscure tune called "Four Walls of Raiford." Great reaction.
The band did little for a number of years after the plane crash until Ronnie's kid brother was old enough to sing for the band and take lead. They have gone on over the years to make a lot more hits.....best music. Has always been one of my favorite bands and I have seen them several times in concert.
Lynyrd Skynyrd "On The Hunt"...Nuff Said.
Important to know… Allman Bros are the Founders of Southern Rock LS perfected it! Singer, Ronnie Van Zant wrote most of their songs from real life experiences…please keep going. Y’all would love his childhood story of “Ballad of Curtis Lowe” and after Ronnie’s divorce “Tuesday’s Gone” … Absolutely Beautiful.
This is a Staple for my bands to play...so so good!
Lynyrd Skynyrd gotten their band name from then coach, Leonard Skinner of their old high school in Jacksonville, Florida. Back in early 70's, Coach Skinner got on members of the band because they worn long hair (hippie era) as Coach was clean cut. As a goof and revenge, they named band after Coach Skinner. Then band became well-known internationally. One concert in Jacksonville, they invited Coach Skinner onstage with them. Skinner is mentioned in Rock Hall of Fame.
One the most prolific and impactful songs that played a major part in defining who I was as youngster and who I have become as an adult.
Tuesday's Gone All I Can Do Is Write About It Call Me The Breeze That Smell Free Bird All bangers!!!
I was born and grew up in Jacksonville. My home band forever. I was at the Greenville SC show to before the crash
Another couple of ballad of theirs....Curtis Lowe and Tuesday's gone. A hot tune hardly anyone reacts to is "I know a little"
I was 18 when I first heard of Lynyrd Skynyrd , First concert I went to Nov 74 rainy day in Seattle at the Paramount, meet the Group going through the backdoor stage , before the concert started.
My favorite song of theirs. Great song!
Shine Down does an awesome cover of this song and the official video is great!!
This song is a beautiful tribute to two of their family members that passed
Mama is spittin facts. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the ultimate music to sit by a bonfire with some cold drinks and cool night.
Always let my tears flow. I'm trying Mom 😊 Being a simple and humble human. btw: great reaction!
1 of the greatest bands ever for sure. Great catalog i recommend u do Coming Home next by them a great song that gets overlooked. Thanks for the reaction peace out.

Thanks.
For me this is their banner song as it is so relatable to the common man.
They did not make anymore original songs after 1977 when Ronnie Steve and Cassie died in the crash.I love Ronnie's voice!
A favorite of Skynyrd nation. RIP.
My Favorite Band. FOREVER
Lynyrd Skynyrd has always been a guitar powerhouse. Even up until Gary Rossingtons death just not long ago they are a powerhouse. They lost a great guitarist in the crash, Steve Gaines. Ed King left the band not long before the crash. After the crash Alan Collins died. when they regrouped they got Ricky Medlocke who was a drummer for them in the early days of the group. He is also an outstanding guitar player and singer. He had formed the group Blackfoot before rejoining Lynyrd Skynyrd. Blackfoot is a group you should check out. A good starting place with them would be their song Train, Train or Highway Song. Diary of a Working Man is also a good song.
Tuesday’s Gone is another absolute classic off of the same album as this and Freebird which was their debut album. Layers upon layers in that one. You’ll both love it.
Lynyrd Skynyrd continued many years after the crash... The last member just passed away recently but They always continued on
one of the greatest bass lines in rock history, Leon Wilkeson just killing it
Another great song that carries a strong message and also loaded with some good guitar work ( oh yeah)

Sorry, I forgot to mention that song. It's. That Smell!
Thats all I ever wanted for my son. Doesn't matter if he's digging ditches, or mucking out horse stalls...as long as he is happy, that's all that matters.
You two need to check out the Allman Brothers. Skynrd, Marshall Tucker, and others were following the Brothers' lead in Southern Rock.

Glad to have you along for the ride!
Ronnie Van Zant’s lyrics are still so very powerful to this day
Most of the band died in the plane crash of 1977. But several were on the plane and did not die. I had tickets to see them for the third time but they died a month before my concert.
This song makes me sheds tears because of certain friends and relatives past away in my life it makes think about them
Great reaction Sam and Phil! If not words to live by, then at least words to keep in mind as one goes through life. I really think you'd enjoy Call Me the Breeze. It's a real rocker.
Another great Skynyrd song to check out is Ballad of Curtis Loew. Great song
Every song from them tells a real story about life and what they have experienced, “ That Smell “ tells about the band and drugs, alcohol abuse that they were living with from their last album Street Survivors
This song is fantastic. I often sing it to my two children 🙏🤗
Not all of them passed away in the plane crash. Ronnie Van Zants brother took over the group. The last surviving member of the band passed away just a couple of months ago
My favorite Skynyrd song ❤
Sadly all the original members are gone now. Sometimes it's hard to listen to them now because of that. RIP all of them. Peace!
React to "Call Me the Breeze" from Lynyrd Skynyrd, please.
LOve yalls reactions..im an old 63 year old marine from s.c..really love em..your reactions..maybe sometimes try and just lean back in your chair..and really try and FEEL IT....don't have to like it...and don't have to critique it...just feel it...then like it or not...thats what music is about..it brings you a feeling...or not..but love your reactions..keep em real and keep em comin...thanks..
Fun fact lead singer never wrote down lyrics he memorized them in his head, that's really hard !
I'm a boy-mom- to a seven year old son. This song is my wish for him... what every parent wishes for their child.... :)
Rossington and Collins played all the leads. Van Zandt played rhythm a lot and one of the others played guitar too. There was almost always 3 guitars playing at any given moment and sometimes four. You probably want to listen to The Ballad Of Curtis Lowe, keeping in mind that this song is from a Deep South band over 50 years ago. And if you’re enjoying this Southern Fried Rock sub genre, you really ought to listen to Molley Hatchet, Dreams I’ll Never See. There’s an incredible guitar solo that you can listen to over and over and never get tired of. Much love ❤️
This is a song that's based in truth. Many of the members were related or grew up together. This something that thier mothers actually said to them. They had to fight to record this song. To the point they locked their producer out of the studio to get it done. Personally I feel this is one of the best from them.
Free Bird and Simple Man were both recorded in 1973.
"And don't forget, son, there is someone up above And be a simple kind of man...." We can sing right along with that.....
You can't go wrong with SKYNYRD
Such an awesome n meaninful song. Timeless
I wish all of us had mothers so wise.
Every boy has this talk with his mom at some point, I sure did and I get a lump in my throat every time I listen to this masterpiece.
Tuesdays gone...another skynyrd classic
Great job with your reaction and thoughts on the song Simple Man from Lynyrd Skynyrd . If you looking for one of the best covers of this Classic Southern Rock Songs Check out Shinedown cover.
