LYRICS
On a cold winter of morning
In the time before the light
In flames of death's eternal reign
We ride towards the fight
When the darkness is falling down
And the times are tough all right
The sound of evil laughter
Falls around the world tonight
Fightin' hard, fightin' on for the steel
Through the wastelands evermore
The skeletors souls will feel the hell
Bodies wasted on the shores
On the blackest wings in hell's domain
We watch the lands become
In fire and flame, and once again we know
So now we're flying we're free
We're free before the thunderstorm
On towards the wilderness
Our quest carries on
Far beyond the sun down, far beyond the moonlight
Deep inside our hearts and all our souls
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and flames we carry on
As the red day is dawning
And the lightning cracks the sky
They'll raise their hands
To the heavens above
Who descend unto their lies
Running back through the mid morning light
There's a burning in my heart
We're banished from the time in the foreign land
To a light beyond the stars
In your blackest dreams see to the need, that destiny is tied
And endlessly we're roaming free tonight
And on the wings of a dream so far beyond reality
All alone in desperation, now the time has gone
Lost inside you'll never find, lost within my own mind
Day after day this misery must go on
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and flames we carry on
Now here we stand with their blood on our hands
We fought so hard, now can we understand
I'll break the seal of this curse if I possibly can
For freedom of every man
So far away we wait for the day
For the light source so wasted and gone
We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days
Through the fire and flames we carry on

This my friend is called Power Metal!!! Sword and Sorcery lyrics about dragons, fantasy, castles, and a bunch of other nerdy stuff on top of fast and energetic instrumentals! Not everyone likes it, some say it's too "Happy sounding", but I absolutely dig it! If you can get past how 1000% their musicianship is and how technically complex they are, it's just great music for fantasy movies, video games, or as you said, anime. All types of music has their place in something. Every member of this band is a virtuoso of their instrument, especially lead guitarist Herman Li who is iconic for making interesting sounds with his guitar with crystal clarity. His most famous one has to be his "Pac Man" sound effect which is heard in this song right before the guitar battle between him and Sam Totman, another great guitarist. Both of them have been with Dragonforce since their beginning in 1999. This song was from 2006 and was moderately received well at the time but only really jumped in popularity a few years later when it was included on Guitar Hero. It has been rated by many as one of the most difficult songs to play on any of the featured instruments. That may overwhelm you but at the end of the day, the music is just meant to get you excited and maybe satisfy the sci-fi nerd within us all!

@@craven1927 True that not all Power Metal is this fast, but the song has other Power Metal elements than just the vocals. The lyrics, the dramatic ascending chord progressions, harmonised vocal chants, the overall adventurous feel, it's all Power Metal.

  • @craven1927

    @craven1927

    2 жыл бұрын

@@TheBlackQueen I have a video series where I discuss the different metal genres including power metal. Yes you are correct, Dragonforce does still fit into that category. But one key word that you included in your description of power metal was "fast." And this is why I don't like to just label Dragonforce as being pure power metal to people who aren't familiar with it, because then people assume all power metal has to be fast. I've actually seen people comment that power metal "has" to be fast otherwise it isn't power metal, and that's just not true. Dragonforce ends up being most people's first introduction to power metal thanks to Guitar Hero and now these reaction channels, and to let people assume that this is what all power metal is supposed to sound like is a disservice to other power metal bands. So I personally like to clarify that, musically, this is closer to speed metal than your typical power metal song. Are there still power metal elements within the music? Yes. But the focus is on the speed. It's what everyone notices. It's what everyone is drawn to. It's THE reason people suggest it for reactions. I'd rather not mislead people into thinking all power metal sounds like this, only for them to listen to another power metal band and wonder why they're called power metal if they aren't playing fast like Dragonforce. So I insert my speed metal reference so it's easier for people who don't normally listen to this type of music to understand that this isn't the "normal" tempo for other power metal bands. I hope that clarifies my earlier comment.

Welcome to the "Speed metal" genre. Give "Soldiers of the Wasteland" a try if you want some more Dragon Force. And yes, they legitimately are that insanely fast. And for another band with a good "hardcore" name, check out Glory Hammer. Great metal/power ballad group with a fun sci-fi/fantasy theme to their music and very theatrical performances. Ton of songs to suggest for them but I'd say start with "Magic Dragon," "Angus McFife," "Hootsforce," "Glory Hammer," and "Universe on Fire." I don't know off-hand the actual chronology but their songs tell a story. I know the music video of "Hootsforce" leads into that of "Glory Hammer" so it might be cool to react to those back-to-back if you're interested.

I’ve seen DF live 2x, both ROCKED. This song, in particular, was one of my ex’s fave songs. So much so, when he tragically died in a car accident in our twenties, they carried out his coffin to this song. It was a bittersweet moment. RIP Lance, 2/26/22 will make it 16 years since you left us too soon. 💔 Check out Herman Li’s KZread channel. He has “shred offs” with other guitarists. It’s crazy.

This was by far the most honest reaction to the song. Pretty sure I had a similar one when I first discovered it on guitar hero as a teen, then promptly called it fake and moved on. Years later, came across it again, found the twitch channel, discovered that it wasn't fake, they're just guitar gods, and found more amazing songs. Gotta check out "Ashes of the Dawn." Different singer, but by far my most favorite song musically. You earned a sub today bud. Keep doing what you're doing 👊

That guitar effect at 20sec into the song is called a Whammy bar (or Tremolo bar). it raises or lowers the bar on which the strings sit, changing their tension and therefore changing pitch. Not all guitars are equipped to have one. if yours doesn't have one you could use a pedal effect, but it's not exactly the same you should check out Ronny James Dio, one of the most amazing vocalists in the Metal scene with some of the most legendary OG Metal songs ever made. also the band Rhapsody of Fire. especially songs: Dawn of Victory, Emerald Sword, and Triumph for My Magic Steel. imagine if Power Metal, Epic Fantasy and Opera had a child :D
