It was the Monsters of Rock festival and it was actually free. As far as I know they stopped counting at 1,6mil attendance.
The new generation unfortunately will never experience concerts with no mobile phones etc... just amazing music and good Vibes just, the music and the energy,

Isn't it more? Didn't they stop counting at 1.6 million? Regardless, I could not imagine the nightmare of trying to use a restroom or trying to leave without getting trampled. It's amazing though.
I believe that the Australian band ACDC were actually the headline act for this concert.
1.6 Million people....and this is 3rd on the all time list of crowds at an open air concert. #1 is Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a crowd of 3.5 Million in 1994. #2 was Jean Michel Jarre in 1997 also in Russia, like that Metallica show, with 3.5 Million.

Rod Stewart 1994 4.2M, 3d place - Jorge Ben Jor's New Year’s Eve 1994 Concert, Rio of 3Mil, 4th - Jean Michael Jarre’s Bastille Day Concert 1990, Paris, with 2.5M, and only then Monsters Of Rock.

Arghhhhhh !! IM ALIVE AGAIN ..... frickin GOAT s Love Peace and HUGE RESPECT xxx
This was rare in history because Russia at those times is not only Russia but The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. Ruled by a dictator at those time and Mikhail Gorbachiv. This was their first concert and a short experience of the people of USSR of what freedom was before the collapse of USSR later that same year.

The question remains, Why was/is this such a rare occurance?? I have no beef with the Russian people, and I doubt they have one with me either, it's our stupid idiotic governments that keeps us apart, which... may be Human kinds biggest failure.

@@heartbeatearth This was rare for Russia because they were a communist country and would never allow this many people to freely assemble. This was after the fall of the Soviet Union and America was giving them a taste of what freedom looks like

The cracks in the USSR started when Pope John Paul ll (who the KGB tried to kill) visited Poland and visited with Gdańsk ship yard protest leader Wallesa (who later became Polish President) met with the Pope and Poland was never the same and Gorbachev saw the writing on the wall. I belief he too wanted Freedom also for his country and then the Berlin Wall came down and the rest was history.
What a party for these kids who have been stuck behind The Curtain until two years prior to this. When The Wall came down in ‘89 it was just so huge after 40+ years of the Cold War.
I like how helicopters flying over the crowd look small.
even tho as a mobile dj i never played or had any songs by metallica or others but 2 years ago i heard this and im hooked on it this was thier best song ever and in my car with 80 watts 7 speakers it rocks any way today in the 2000's thier is no real R & R bands only single artist mostly like lady ga ga pink bruno mars etc..

They wasnt the only band.
1.6 million
Yeah I understand counting stopped at almost 2 million and there were over 3 million and possibly 4 or more

If you stop and think about what you are looking at, if you are being honest...you can smell what you are looking at too. I don't see any portable toilets anywhere. I sort of doubt a million drunk people just held it.
What happen to the rest of it?
People are still waiting in line to use restrooms
its 1.6 millon people
I think they said 57 people died at this concert

Do we really believe Led Zeppelin , AC/DC , Van Halen , The Rolling Stones , The Beatles , Queen , Pink Floyd , Rush , Elton John , or Elvis as a Headliner band could have drawn a sea of 1.6 Million people like this in one place ? Not a chance . 💥🔥💫🌟✨🙈🙉🙊🤔🙄😉😍👀💀😬😐😜

@@69Naha That's because AC/DC were together for about 18 years by 1991 , and the senior of all of the other bands . I am going to get rammed in but I think Bonamassa plays 10 times better as well as Angus Young. Metallica are a bunch of pretentious players who think they are better than everyone else. Yes they are good at spinning their hair. The front man is the worse!!! Arrogant and pretentious sorry guys. And it is easy to have a massive crowd in Russia.
