First NES ad - Dec. 1985 WNBC-TV commercial break

Ғылым және технология

One of the first TV commercials for the Nintendo Entertainment System, aired on WNBC-TV in New York City on December 3rd, 1985, during the made-for-TV movie "John and Yoko: A Love Story". An initial 100,000 NES units were being test marketed in New York City beginning on October 18th, 1985. The NES was not released nationwide in the U.S. until September 1986 -- after the Atari 7800 (nationwide release May 1986), and the same month as the Sega Master System.

I'd be gifted the Super Nintendo six years later! Neat to see this.

The first tagline for the NES: "The FIRST To Move Video Action Off The TV Screen!"

I find it so interesting that Nintendo was going to such lengths to counteract the video game crash in America that they made R.O.B. and the NES Zapper the centerpieces of their marketing for the console. Hell, Nintendo of America even named it “Nintendo Entertainment System” to mystify any connection it had to video games. “The first to move video action off the TV screen” tells all. They were promoting the NES product as a toy first- R.O.B. and the Zapper being the means by which you controlled “interactive video entertainment”, which incidentally happens to be remarkably similar to video games 😅

Wait, if this was "NBC Monday Night at The Movies", how come it aired on a Tuesday? December 3, 1985 was on a Tuesday that year. I'm confused.

Wait a sec... Does that fast flickering is from an EZCAP-like device? Because I have almost the same issue with mine when I digitize some tapes.

:) But maybe they (Yoko&John) have invested into that new technology, and it was agreed ad campaign :). They knew (from the mightiest of the world (John's song is de facto kind of NWO anthem)) or from their own not always legal substances "sessions" that ppl in 21 century would sit at homes playing games, watching YT etc. :)

It's a film about *John and Yoko* not just her. And what's with the racist thing? Nothing is being insinuated of that sort.
