FIRST LOOK: £21k Citroen ë-C3 - Is this the affordable car we’ve been waiting for? | Electrifying

READ THE REVIEW: www.electrifying.com/reviews/...
#citroenec3 #citroenelectric #electriccars
Say bonjour to the new Citroen ë-C3 - a car that could well set a new benchmark for affordability in the small electric car sector. It’s set to launch in the UK next year with a price tag that could be as low as just £21,000. Too good to be true?
As of October 2023, there are just five electric cars on sale in the UK under £30k and not a single one under £25 thousand pounds. So that will make this car - Citroen c-C3 - which has been designed - and built - in Europe the most affordable electric car when it goes on sale at the start of 2024. And at a time when many car makers are stepping back from building small cars because of the challenge of making them profitable this is a bold move from Citroen.
The e-C3 is about the same size as the forthcoming Volkswagen ID2 and its overall footprint is no larger than the current C3. But while the VW doesn’t go on sale until 2025, you’ll only have to wait until the start of 2024 for this car. Which is great for impatient people like us!
The e-C3 gets an 113bhp electric motor at the front along with a 44kWh battery pack which will be good for 199 miles of WLTP driving range. You can also expect larger batteries to join the range, but they won’t - of course - come with that affordable £21k price tag. You get 100kW DC fast charging capability, which means it gets from 20 to 80 percent capacity in 26 minutes. While standard AC recharging can be done at either 7 or 11kWs.
Join Ginny as she takes a close look around the new Citroen ë-C3. What do you think? Will Citroen have a winner on its hands? As always, we love you hear your views, so let us know what you think in the comments below.

The most important plus here is that they finally also use LFP batteries because they can be constantly charged to 100%. This means you can always use the 44kWh which means it is factually as good as a 51kWh NmC battery (usually used) at 90% and even 0% better than that 51kWh battery (like in 208 or Corsa) at 80%. Not the least LFPs degrade much mich slower and a lot less, which is massive advantage with small batteries like this. So 44kWh is plenty for practically all cases. And with 100kW charging it is like 2.5C which is also plenty fast enough. Proves you can do it in Europe when Volkswagen and others blabber about how it is the low labour costs in Asia that make low prices possible. Rubbish. But the screen above the steering wheel is not a HUD 😂

Absolutely. I dunno what VW is trying to do. They could do small cars with 30-35kWh if you could make LFP still charge at 100kW. And for even the ID7 they could sell with a 55-60kWh pack instead of the huge 77kWh pack with NMC that is barely going to compete with Tesla.

Is affordable but you get less per dollar spent. That is the problem with these legacy car makers. They are using the platform from an indian car, just a different body on top. But at least they are not as despicable as renault with their dacia spring which is literally a Dongfeng nanobox with slightly different headlights, sold for 3x the retail price in china.

Looks perfect for me. 63 years old and single. Mostly do trips to the shops, GP or hospital, or to visit my daughter & grandchildren 15 miles away. Longest 'regular' journey these days is Northampton to Weybridge and back to visit my father. Even when I was a bit younger and had a BMW 630, on my irregular trips from Surrey to Barrow-in-Furness to visit uncles & aunts I rarely did the circa 300 miles without stopping at least two or three times (usually Oxford services on M40 for breakfast, Stafford services on the M6 for lunch and a final stop at Lancaster) to "stretch my legs", so a 200 mile range (probably closer to 150 on motorways) is absolutely NOT a problem for me. I like the way it looks. Interior seems fine. Nice to see proper 'manual' controls for the heating. Boot is more than big enough for my needs (shopping or camera bags). £21k??? Bargain by modern EV prices.

Surely this is a "no frills", no compromise relatively affordable model, but safe enough for our needs here in Europe. If only I wasn't a nearly blind man, perhaps this would have been my next car and my first EV. The R5 and the VW ID.2 are just set to be shown on when they'd to be available. This one is still ready for order. I believe this will be the most sold EV next year here in Europe and with good perspectives to become the mainstream solution at this side of the pond for several years to come. The, say, real 150Km version set to enter the market by 2025 will perhaps to not sell as well, becoming such a niche market for some use cases.

Given that the BYD Seagull is around £16-17k in Western markets, if it ever arrives, this Citroen e-C3 for a starting price of £21k seems like a better package. Bigger range, bigger space, more powerful motor, more than 2x the maximum charging speed, better interior quality. The entry level Renault 5 will have very similar specs to this Citreon e-C3, with the option to upgrade a few things in the higher trim models. Really rather like the design. A bit boxy perhaps, might hurt highway speed efficiency a bit, but it does look good, and the front and rear light design is gorgeous in my opinion, very good use of LED lighting. Been riding a lot in my old dad's Renault Zoes (he's had the 2nd gen and now 3rd gen), and small electric cars are so practical and nimble. Not to mention supremely comfortable, with no engine vibrations, no gearbox jerking, quiet cabin, air conditioning, and all that good stuff. More choices in that size range can only be a good thing. Rather prefer the old chevron design though, not sure why they felt a need to change it. *shrug* But, this is possibly the most useless complaint of them all, so well done Citroen - I wish them tremendous success. This looks suspiciously like the Indian built version of the C3 which has a very low crash test rating sold only in "3rd world" markets. The C3 Air cross is the Euro version which is much more expensive than the C3 built in India for "3rd world" markets as they have said. Is this how they got the price down?

Not sure about putting flags on cars- think Middle East at the moment, also if those flashes are pop out, then you can bet that people will and lose them, or take them. As always, Citroen leads the pack with design, innovation and focus on real people driving real journeys and not having too much real money. Love them for that. Gosh you do harvest a load of negativity on here, for no reason at all, it is just a car, some will like it some not. Feel sorry for you.

"magic carpet" ride - we have seen this from Citroen before, just means it will drive like a wallowing sofa. Despite that it does look a really nice car, boot space, or more accurately lack of boot space makes it a non-starter for me. As for range, will be interesting to see what larger size batteries will be available - 220-250 miles at motorway speeds is what I want

A great preview and thank you. When you look at this car and then compare to some very expensive and highly specced SUV with a huge battery and range to match, you have to wonder how the modern equivalent of the 1950s gas guzzler is going to age - and depreciate. Light high capacity solid state Li is already in sight from Toyota (2027 in quantity). From China there are already cheaper version of present Li chemistries. This Citroen is already taking advantage of these improvements. The other thing I like about this car is that it gets back to a relatively simple interior spec without losing what you expect from a car in the 2020s. We really do not need the complex, and in my view unusable, interior, UI, and infotainment you get in - say - a high spec Mercedes. This Citroen is much closer in concept to the brief for the original Mini which was my first car in the mid 1970s, and much the better for it.

If they can truly deliver this car at the quoted price, then bravo! This is the car we have all been waiting for. Of late most EVs are sold at starting prices in the $40k range. Here in the states, cheap EVs even if offered are usually marked up by dealers or loaded with so many extras that the price quickly shoots up by thousands of dollars. However, I remain skeptical that this low price will hold, but if it does, Citroen will sell all they produce.

Its a bit smaller than my current petrol car offers in my city run-around. Its liveable with . We can adapt but why dont the seats fold fully down? ! . The price is just affordable for an average earning family but we would all like it even lower. Shame about the battery and possible cold start issue but if you have a garage it should be ok. Id like the battery to be Europe manufactured where labour laws protect people, but some of the eco credentials mentioned are a bonus no cobalt no child/ slave labour etc . Good range for a city runaround. Its top of my list for when my low emission city car packs in (fairly soon).
