Glad it helped you. Between that one and the one where it is looking for a format as well, FIND can look like it is giving the wrong answer often.

Thank you so much for this! I was using excel to store the words I'm learning in another language. This language uses glottal stops and the apostrophes in words (used to represent the glottal stop) were preventing the search function from working, so learning I could use asterisks was helpful! It worked!

Pleasure. Just be careful because once you change to values it tends to stay values and you might want to sometimes search in formula.

After some change/update to new version of Excel doesn't work properly find if you mark more than one sheet, you have to search in each sheet separately.

You need to change the one drop down from sheet to workbook. Nothing has changed on my version. Which version of excel are you using?

@@Advanced_Excel I mean change from some old excel perhaps 97 to 2016/2019. Macro written in the old excel doesn't work properly with new version (some changes in the code were needed). Macro were written just by "recording on live" As I know in the meantime Microsoft made changes in Excel VBA language and few functions were changed/removed.

Trying to find phone numbers is a pain in the arse. Numbers that were from a CSV now saved as an excel but they have spaces in them. Its a pain.

@@Advanced_ExcelSadly not working. The phone number has spaces. I type the number with no spaces and put * in front and still doesn't find it. I remove the spaces and it removes the leading 0 of the original number. Same search, still doesn't find it. I have to remove the leading zero from the search for it to find it. Its odd.

@@Advanced_ExcelThink got it. Had to use substitute to remove the spaces. Then copy the numbers that came from the forumla into another sheet. Then the search works.

I was having issues with getting the Find button to work even after watching this video. I discovered that if your cell borders are selected the Find feature will NOT work! As soon as I removed the borders the Find feature worked again! Seems like a bug to me.

Thanks for sharing. Can you by chance send us an example. This would be the case as well if the format FIND was set to a cell with no borders, but I haven't seen it happen when the Format FIND is not on.

Thanks for the video. My problem is there is NO option other than Formulas. The drop is otherwise blank. Please help!

You can only use values when you are in the FIND screen. If you are in the REPLACE screen it is not available.

@@Advanced_Excel thank you! How would you do a simply "Find & Replace" for replacing a date? I have never had this problem before. Older versions this wasn't and issue. As Microsoft improves these functions. Simple functions seem to be becoming less simple. :/

Is the date created by a formula or is it a value and what are you trying to replace, the full date or part of it e.g. the month only?

@@Advanced_Excel The date is formatted to mm/dd/yy and is simply keyed in. It is not created by a formula. I am only trying to replace mm/dd/yy with another date in the same format mm/dd/yy. FYI: Actual date when you click on the cell appears as 3/25/2021, but is formatted to 03/25/21. I hope this helps. Let me know. Thank you

It seems to work fine on mine. I created a number of dates e.g. 2023/03/15 and 1 day extra for a number of cells. Formatted it as 23/05/15. When I do a Find/ Replace it finds the correct date and replaces it with my correct date. The only thing I needed to be careful of was the search for what is in the formula bar and not what you see in the cell.

My problem is can't find a word with in merge and center

Merge and centre shouldn't be a problem. Have you tried looking in values rather than formula?
