I came up with a theory that Vyvyan changed his name because he got sick of it being called a girl's name. And Rick changed his to Richie because he was sick of being called PRick. Eddie changed his surname from Basterd to Hitler because he wanted "a less problematic surname"...😂

I actually totally agree! Richie tried to be famous and failed so they moved into the house in Bottom and eventually admitted defeat so just kicked the s*** out of each other forever more 😂

I think the underlying issue was the way it really p****d off Bruce Forsyth and especially Jimmy Tarbuck who, to this day is quite angry about it. The entire series was only ever shown once on the BBC. Fortunately I videoed them all. It followed The Young Ones which was too difficult to beat. Filthy, Rich & Catflap wasn’t that good but it’s worth a watch.

I watched this when it came out and thought it was genius straight away. It's a dull thing to say but me and three mates would go down the pub all weekend and quote this to each other. I can't look at Eddie Catflap without thinking of my old mate Kev, who had all the facial mannerisms down to a T. So much of it made it into our daily language. Don't get me wrong - Young Ones & Bottom are brilliant but this beats them hands down. I still have a great urge to walk through my front door, hurl a pint glass into the air and jump up to headbutt it as it falls to the ground. Maybe one day...

@@lastboyscoutuk good move ditching Ben elton too, although he was a great writer for blackadder and young ones it didn't work here, I loved planers character, wish he'd of gone to bottom with them instead of christopher Ryan who's about as funny as an undertaker with toothache, the way they nuanced the eddie and Richie characters for bottom was genius, edmonsons "bodyguard" to a narcissist with delusions of grandeur was weak and just filled with perpetual toilet humor, much better when they were both just hapless degenerate incels lol

@@zekeedwards7904 I think Christopher Ryan worked very well on Bottom, he fit right in. I'm not sure how Nigel would fit there.

Remember at the end of the last show they said that there will be a new series next year, but they took the piss out of so many artists currently working it got cancelled. (Tarby, Parky, Brucie etc..)

There seem to be a lot of rumours around why it never got a 2nd series. Low ratings, Rik didn't want to work on anoth Ben Elton project, etc. I suppose only Ade can confirm the real reason now, sadly.

I saw a prog about Jimmy Tarbuck, made since Covid, and he was still really sniffy (oo-er) about this series. Not such a jolly gap-toothed scouser after all.

wow in mid to late teens when this came out. I remember it vaguely, but never watched it. It's pretty funny in places, but I think my mindset has moved on from when this was laugh out loud funny. Juvenile, but done in an artistic way.
