It's the chemistry between those two and their easy relationship with the audiences that made their work such a delight to behold

I'm from the states and had never heard of "Bottom" until I saw the tribute tweets to Rik. The show and the live shows are so hilarious! I wish I would have known about them when Rik was alive as I am old enough to have been able to see them back in the day. I'm glad to know he is still getting new fans even after his passing. I am one of them. RIP Rik Mayall.

Most of the Bottom eps at the time being about 15 watching them or possibly younger didn't really get them at the time, but now most of them at some point have me crying from laughing so hard lol

"I'm beginning to understand why Stephen Fry fucked off" remains my favourite adlib of all time, never fails to crack me up (now I'm old enough to know what he was referring to lol)

I honestly love how when Adrian says "I'm beginning to understand why Stephen Fry fucked off," Rik's first reaction is a burst of genuine, uncontrollable laughter - the only time in this whole reel that we hear him laugh like that, and it's at his own expense - but as soon as the crowd laughs along and starts clapping, he realises they heard and got the joke too and immediately gets this look of egg on his face, knowing he's just been publicly roasted. If it had happened in rehearsal, I like to think he would've kept on laughing for minutes on end.

I met Rik Mayall once and he was just the same in real life as on stage, just giving his fans exactly what they wanted. He was a genius and is greatly missed

Ade really got that Rik there because that was a nod to a play Rik Mayall did on stage with Stephen Fry who walked out on the play.

I loved Bottom when I was a kid. My dad and I used to watch it together. It's amazing the chemistry that Rik and Ade have. I loved Rik Mayall as Lord Flasheart in Blackadder. He will be missed.

I remember watching this when I was 16 and I nevery laughed so hard in my life before. They used to give me an escape from all the bullshit I was going through at the time so Richie (rip) and Eddie thanks for the good times.

Rik was a genus.... I have never been upset when celebs die but then rik died and suddenly I feel a loss. He didn't give a shit he did want he want and he always owned the stage.. I only wish I could have seen him live.

Growing up watching these pair was an honour.

They weren't just a double act, they were best mates having a laugh, and just for a short while as you watch them they're your best mates too.

Excellent compilation. My favourite remains the door to the 'secret Japanese bunker'.

I am literally so grateful for growing up with these two legends... Started watching bottom when I was far too young but I swear it gets funnier with time. The young ones, comic trip, filthy rich and catflap.. I love it all! Rik was one of the one of the best in my opinion... Funniest man to have lived.

For all his comedy genius, which it was, Rik's acting is often over looked, he really was a great actor who could do anything. God I miss this man, he made me laugh more than anyone every could, apart from maybe Eddie!

I love the way such a simple exchange as "don't you even yearn for change?" "only when that Ralph is working behind the bar at the lamb and flag", gets turned into 5 minutes of improv genius.

I was 11 when Bottom first hit the TV screens but I didn't actually start watching the series until after I watched the first Bottom Live. 30 years later it is still the funniest live comedy show/play that I've seen. Rik Mayall is such a legend and although I never knew him he was one of those celebrities that when they die you are so gutted and genuinely upset about. Rik and Ade were geniuses together and just knew how to work the crowd. Phenomenal show, series and comedians.

I'm soo soo grateful that my dad introduced me to these two geniuses in my early teens. I grew up with an actual sense of comedy. I come back to this vid every so often if things are a bit down. The best antidepressant.

I am 50 years old and I grew up watching Rik Mayall in The Young Ones and Filthy Rich And Catflap and The New Statesman and the Bottom tv series and these live Bottom shows and other things as well. Rik is very sadly missed.

The fluffed lines and improv were what made the live shows so incredibly funny. Wouldn’t have been the same if Rik and Ade didn’t stumble over their own script, and then take the piss out of themselves for it. Absolute legends. 😁

This was all part of their show. If they stuffed up one night, and got a laugh for it, they performed exactly the same the following nights. Often it was just part of the act. It wasn't always a genuine mistake.
