    This is the kind of show where you watch a whole season in a day and freak out that there isn't more. It's like a rip tide. You are grabbed and pulled along through chaos and emotion and left in awe of the cast and crew. SO FUCKING GOOD

    as a chicagoan, WE ARE NOT EAST COAST. we are THE midwest city. and the hard-nose attitudes of the characters have less to do with Chicago’s culture, which contrary to popular belief is actually quite mellow and friendly, and more to do with general machismo culture of professional kitchens

    I’ve worked lines in kitchens on the east coast, west coast, and deep south, hole in the wall bar kitchens and places with custom crystalware on every table. Most of them, if they were worth half a shit, had people who gelled like they do in the family meal scene. It ain’t a Chicago thing, east coast thing, it’s a cook thing. When you’re on the line, neck deep in the weeds, and the ticket printer is a thing of sheer terror, you’ve got to be able to deal with the heightened emotions and tempers of the strong personalities around you. In comparison to that, affectionate roasting when you’re all chilling having a drink or pre-shift smoke is just like, well, it’s affectionate. It’s camaraderie.

    As someone who worked as a line cook in a busy local restaurant & bar for 5 years, I can confirm that this show is a pretty accurate depiction of working in the restaurant world. (Including the shouting, constant arguing, and the high tension of working close-quarters with other people in a very stressful, fast-moving environment, LOL)

    Agree about the insert shots! This is a show that cares about details. Through inserts and zooms, this show makes you pay attention to the small things in beautiful ways. It appreciates well, in the way that a well cooked meal makes you notice the layers of flavor and texture. There's a montage in season 2, in the episode Sundae that I had to watch twice in a row. Magnificent stuff.

    I love this show. The characters in it feel so real. And they grow on you. Some like a fungus but they all grow on you. And it's not Carmy and Sugar's dad who died recently. It's their brother. Fun fact: the restaurant is inspired by a real place and the dude selling the beef out of the back of his car is played by the owner of the IRL place.

  • @bambifromhell
    @bambifromhell5 ай бұрын

    ''The Bear'' is a play on Carmy's last name, and his own nickname as well. I'm sure as you've watched the show its become more obvious since multiple people reference him as ''bear'', and his brother as ''Mikey bear''. Its also a pretty sweet nod to Chicago with The Bears being our team. Lots of different avenues with the name and its a beautiful beast of a show.

    Happy New Years bro and yes, onto one of my fave shows. The flow of this show is downright nuclear. It actually matches the conditions of the restaurant biz. Almost claustrophobic and when done with the day you almost take on a whole different persona. But tomorrow's already here and it starts again. You won't find another show to match this. Hope you enjoy as much as I think you will. And you say The Punisher huh? Wellllll. 😅

    So, the fat dude with the moustache is a real famous chef from Toronto. He also did a lot of their "script expert" stuff. I'm not even kidding.

    It’s important to say the real chef knifes of that caliber are EXPENSIVE they take care of them like samurai’s take care of their katanas or soldiers their muskets. A single chip on the blade is hundreds of dollars
