@@EarthyRanger772 I'll give you some recommendations because most of my favourites don't have sex/nudity: Whiplash, Se7en, 12 Angry Men, Children of Men, Inglourious Basterds, Prisoners, Die Hard, Memento, Reservoir Dogs, and Knives Out - a lot of these are somewhat disturbing and/or for mature audiences though, so keep that in mind. If you're looking for something more family friendly, I'd recommend Good Will Hunting, Back to the Future, JoJo Rabbit, Napoleon Dynamite, Peanut Butter Falcon, Grand Budapest Hotel, Elf, Catch Me if You Can, Paddington 1+2, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. A lot of these are fairly well known movies so if you've already seen them and are looking for more obscure recommendations, let me know, I've seen a lot of movies, so I can recommend some great lesser known movies

@@EarthyRanger772 Yeah JoJo Rabbit is about the Nazi's, but it's more of a satirical comedy that mocks the Nazis combined with a coming of age story. It's mostly heartwarming and funny, and I'd say it's suitable for anyone over the age of 11. It's directed by Taika Waititi who you might know from Thor Ragnarok. Similar tone and comedy as that movie

I remember going into this thinking it would be overrated because people said it was an undeserved Oscar win, but I was really impressed by this instead. Another great choice here James

As someone who was very familiar with Indian Cinema beforehand and familiar with all the blowback that this film received from the Indian film community (actors, directors, etc) I was fully prepared to think it was overrated as well. But I quickly saw why so many Indian film people didn't like it.... It was embarrassed them by how good it was, and they didn't like that Bollywood (That is, the Mumbai film industry) didn't make it. Of course the movie had some gravitas by casting Anil Kapoor. Irrfan Khan was already known for offbeat film choices, so he really didn't count as a big name, but Anil Kapoor was...because Shah Rukh Khan turned them down. But other than that, it was filled with unknowns and it really showed the unglamorous side of Mumbai. And it did it while being a genuinely feel-good picture. It showed the squalor side by side with the high rises. And how a young man triumphed out of the muck pit. It really gave Bollywood a lesson, honestly. One that they don't like to this day.

Lmfao this movie WAS nothing but "overrated"...took me 3x to watch it, and finally finish it out of boredom. The reviews (user) are nothing but mostly average, for a reason. Such a tedious, boring movie.

I always cry in that last scene, where Jamal kisses Latika's scar and you see everything they've went through but they play it in reverse and then it stops in the moment where Latika was looking up at him and smiling in the train station. I've always interpreted it as the movie commenting on true love, and how it has the power to make you feel like it can "take back" a lot of the pain that we endure throughout life, or at least you feel like all of that was worth it because it got you to that one, blissful moment where you finally get to share your life with the one you love.

It's not every day I find movie that makes me get up out of my seat and start yelling at the screen. "COME ON!!! PLEASE GET THIS ANSWER!!!"

I absolutely love the quiz framing device. It’s such a great way to link the past to the present. In a way that moves the story forward in a natural way. And I love that it’s the way he knew the answers

Yes, its the same Danny Boyle who directed 28 Days Later. He also directed Trainspotting (which you loved) and its FANTASTIC sequel that came out almost 20 years later with the same cast. You should react to that one.

Wait, was 28 Days Later Boyle with Alex Garland writing? That's sick.

I remember my parents telling me to see this film. Said it was one of the best films they had ever seen. Took a couple friends who had never heard of it and we all came out speechless, one friend in tears and her boyfriend was choked up too. Unbelievable story and incredible music and cinematography. Top notch.

Slumdog Millionaire in general needs more reactions, thanks for being one who did, goat 👏🏿

I watched this one after getting stoned for the first time and holy shit, the sound and cinematography on this film is such a standout. It has SUCH an epic and engrossing feel to it and such a major buildup. It will always have a place in my heart and I'll always spark up a joint and turn out the lights and turn up the sound on this one to try and recreate that feeling. Keep up the great content brother!

Bro same, I was smoking with my sister and her boyfriend and they showed me this movie. I was blown away and it’s literally my favorite to this day.

Danny Boyle is a very overlooked filmmaker in my opinion, so I'm glad you decided to watch Slumdog Millionaire. Would love to see you watch and react to David O. Russell's Three Kings because that film is awesome!

Another great and very little known - or at least much _lesser_ known - Danny Boyle film is "Shallow Grave". Highly recommend it! It was made before Trainspotting (rightfully) put him on the map.

Idk if someone in the comments has already said this, but the scene where the host leaves that wrong answered clue. Drake had in one of his songs "Fake friends write the wrong answers on the mirror for me". Love that line & this movie even more.

I love Dev Patel's newest movie The Green Knight. It's beautiful and surreal and leaves things open to interpretation

LOVED that movie! Have the soundtrack on repeat

i worked as a technician at an arthouse theater in europe. this movie was a major hit and we had lines around the block. it ran for 6 months at least.

One of the best screenplays ever written. Not to mention the direction, cinematography, and acting were all top notch.

It's funny that you say you see Danny Boyle's style the most during the quiet moments, because I see it most when there's a lot of action. He has a very kinetic style to convey emotion or danger, with lots of changes to frame rate, camera shake, depth of field, etc. I love that frenetic pace during those moments.

Danny Boyle has directed some awesome films from Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slum Dog Millionaire, Sunshine, 127 hours, Steve Jobs, The Beach, and Yesterday.

To this day when someone’s leaving I always yell “Latikaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!” 😅

I used to work in a cineme by time this movie came out and there were people dancing at the end of credits most of the time.

Such a fantastic film, an all timer for me. This and Danny Boyle's other film Trainspotting are in my Top 5 favorite movies for me! A gorgeous, but emotionally harrowing, rollercoaster ride of a life from beginning to end. AND THE MUSIC!! Oh, it's so good, especially the ending song Jai Ho which deserved it's Best Song Oscar. Also funny enough that end credits dance sequence was actually an afterthought, with the filmmakers thinking "Well given how much of our film is a love letter to Bollywood, IT MAKES SENSE that we need to include a dance sequence!!" Plus, this film introduced us to the mega-talent that is Dev Patel!

This really deserved the Academy Award for Best Picture

Danny Boyle's an interesting dude who always makes interesting movies. He basically just wanted to make a movie in India so he made this. He just wanted to make a Sci-Fi movie so he made Sunshine. He's pretty much made a movie in every genre because he that's what's interesting to him. Al his movies are worth checking out, although some are better than others. He also directed the opening ceremony to the 2012 London Olympics.

You should also take a look at Lion with Dev Patel. A truly devastating film.

Such a phenomenally well done movie. Reminds me of Precious though where it’s too heavy to watch more than once except every blue moon

Definitely a great watch

This movie is so so good. The cinematography, the story, the acting. It’s all chefs kiss. I loved it as a teen and now in my late 20s it still hit so hard and so immersive. It’s a top 3 movie imo

I was beginning to worry when I saw you liked Book of Eli - I hated that film and almost walked out of the theater LOL. But yes this is a great film, how its shot - the characters. I saw it for the first time on a 5 hour plane ride, cramped in Economy with my arms crossed the whole journey because I am a big guy and dont want to encroach on peoples space. I remember this being a film I was totally immersed in, that I had forgotten where I was or the fact I was arms folded. The moment she answers the phone, not shown at around 21:26, I audibly and physically inhaled emotionally.... it was such a moment... this guy getting his due..... just a great film. Love when films can give you those chills. Creed was another movie.... had me clenching my fists and shadow boxing lol

Danny Boyle is a force of talent. Slumdog Millionaire, his Bollywood entry, is a great one. The construction of the story alone is fantastic, the cast is superb and Danny gets great performances out of everyone. I highly recommend his heist movie - Trance (2013) And his sci-fi - Sunshine (2007) For one of his weirdest - The Beach (2000) with DiCaprio.

Sunshine and Trance are underrated

India poverty is exactly like that. Very eye opening to people who think we have it bad.

Dev Patel was great in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel a much more lighthearted movie based in India. You might enjoy it.

This was one of the first dramas I watched I was about 12 or 13 first movie that I understood beyond a surface level so I’ll always defend it as a great movie

BRUUH I'm a South Asian so I grew up watching this and this was one of my first introductions to really actually good film, I AM SO GLAD UR WATCHING THIS I'm surprised cuz I thought only Asians knew this movie existed😭

OMG finally!!!!! Someone, nope one of my faves, is watching this movie. It's so interesting as a film because it's a both really grounded and basically a fairy tale. Hope you enjoy!

@@JamesVSCinema outstanding. I follow a few reactors so I forget what everybody's done. I should have known though, you tend to dive deeper into cinema's lesser known gems than other channels. But okay, how about A Life Less Ordinary. By Danny Boyle, starring Ewen Mcgregor once again and Cameron Diaz, Delroy Lindo and best of all Holly Hunter. Love me some Holly Hunter. Not a great movie but a fun movie. Have you seen Domino by Tony Scott? I bet you'd appreciate the style it's filmed in. Hard to explain, it's like the film itself is dirty. Well worth watching. Love the channel, looking forward to the next one.

This film hasn't been a big deal in quite some time, but it's exceptionally well made.

Hell of a film. As far as the game show goes, it was (is?) called Who wants to be a Millionaire and it was kind of big deal for a few years. It was basically one of those shows like Britains got Talent, or bake off, that went global and every country had their own version. Basically get a run of correct answers and get a life changing amount of money.

Great pick James! This is an amazing film and such an underdog film as well as the underdog protagonist! Some really tragic circumstances exposed in the movie, but an awesome love story!

I remember we watched it in back in Highschool for our english class during a free day, and there was no movie for our book we finished so our teacher put on a movie chosen by the class from her selection, and we chose Slumdog Millionaire and at first there were a few kids not watching and walking in and out of class, but by the end everyone left or who came back was glued to the screen, definitely not a perfect viewing experience but the movie definitely stuck with me

The paper planes sequence is so good

It's worth checking out all of Danny Boyle's filmography, you've already covered Sunshine, 28 days later, trainspotting and this. A life less ordinary is a fun quirky and surreal caper, and Shallow Grave is a very cool, dryly funny but very dark crime story...oh and The Beach with dicaprio

I remember watching it with my little brother and to see how much we related to the characters. It's up there with City of God as one of my absolute favourites.

I might have suggested this already, but you should really check out Deliverance (1972). One of the most visceral and unsettling films I’ve ever seen. And beautifully shot.

I liked this movie quite a bit and remember the time in which it came out. That year had Milk, The Fighter, and several other noteworthy flicks. That time had A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, A Serious Man, Frost/Nixon, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road, Winter's Bone, The Kids Are All Right, and so much else. In particular, I love the music from Slumdog and 127 Hours.

Love this film. Incredible. The week I spent in Mubai for my old tech job ... was humbling. The scale of the slums is massive, essentially the whole city. I've never seen such abject poverty before. Not at that savage. So many homeless it reminded me of Soylent Green. And I saw the mutilated beggar children, as depicted in this film. Heartbreaking.

Ok, now to Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, Sunshine, Yesterday and Steve Jobs. Danny Boyle is a master of many styles. And for the Indian masterpieces that precede this, Satyajit Ray’s Apu trilogy, particularly part one, Panther Pachali, is the very essence of soulful filmmaking, and Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay will break your heart. Both are obvious influences on Slumdog Millionaire.

I lived in Mumbai for 3 months around the time this was filmed. I worked at the airport and lived in Punai, where some of the high rise scenes were shot. This movie is so true to it's time. Everyone who can should go to Mumbai. It changed my life.

I watched this back when I was going to India regularly. I went once with work and then back on my own to help people in the slums that I met when I went there to work. What you see here of the slums is fairly representative.

Dev Patel is an amazing actor. I also love him in the Marigold Hotel films… a much more lighthearted side of him.

"Shallow Grave", which came out a year or two before Trainspotting, is a Danny Boyle film that doesn't get mentioned enough, probably because Trainspotting was the one that made him famous*. It is also a great film. For a real "before they were famous" director twist though, you should check out Peter Jackson's first film "Bad Taste", a very low budget film about aliens invading New Zealand, that definitely doesn't take itself too seriously.

I don't think Dev Patel did anything special in this movie. The other 2 child actors did much more in this Film than he did. Their acting was much better. All Dev Patel did was look depressed and tired. Slumdog Millionaire is a bad Movie. The Editing, the Story is horrible. It is not realistic in any way. It is a poorly made horror story. Let's say the brothers survive the Genocide of their City. In real life they would not have survived long without their mother to support them. Kids left alone in India will quickly die, from exposure. The 🌞☀️ Sun's heat will quickly kill people without shelter. Poverty is so bad in India they would die of starvation. How these boys were supposed to have survived, by stealing, would have put them in early graves. In India the public will kill you for stealing. The government will 🪓 off your hand. Salim is a very poorly written character. He is this psycho child that will kill a baby and report kids to their villian kidnapper. Then he saves his brother from being blinded but is Cruel to Lativia a little girl crying in the rain. Than he threatens to murder his Brother if he will not leave because he wants to Rape Lativia. Salim is not remotely believable. Too many villians, who are all Comic Book style over the top Evil, in this Garbage movie. The $hit scene was disgusting and out of place, it was gross not funny. This Ignorant movie won Best picture and a lot more Oscars... 😮 😮 😮😮 The Oscars are Political and have been since the beginning getting to be now for 20 years the politically correct awards. The Best is not who wins the Oscars.
