Slumdog millionaire is one of those movies that nobody ever reacts to, probably because most people have seen it.

Which is exponentially more valuable in India than the US.
Silent watcher here, I highly recommend watching Skins UK even if you can't upload it to KZread. It's such a great show that I promise you won't regret it!
Slumdog Millionaire is a movie adaptation of a book, and it’s pretty true to the book which I recommend. Also, unsurprisingly the British fabricated and encouraged the rivalry between the Muslims and Hindus in India, as it ensured India would not be unified and would be weak when it became independent-which made the British happy as they would soon lose the “crown jewel” of their empire/commonwealth and they knew it. In 1947, their plans were realized when India became independent and the Great Split occurred: a violent event where the Muslims went to Pakistan (a Muslim state) and the Hindus went to India (a Hindu state). Millions of people died and currently, the Muslims/Pakistanis and Hindus/Indians hate each other. They are still fighting over a small strip of land called Kashmir, ALL because the British couldn’t keep their greedy sticky little fingers from getting involved. That’s why you see a lot of Muslim-Hindu conflict in the movie. It’s the aftermath of a rivalry instilled by the British to prevent a united Indian state from forming, following centuries of British colonial rule and oppression of the Indian people! Hope that helps :) Oh also! 16:00 You guys pretty much got the idea but basically what these men will do is get children who are poor or orphans that need money. They’ll mutilate them, effectively disabling them (cut out an eye, cut off a finger, etc). Then they’ll send the children to the streets. People will take pity on a disabled child more or a disabled child holding a crying baby, and give them money. Also, a disabled child singing with a beautiful voice will induce sympathy, bringing in money (this is why you see the children singing before being recruited and mutilated). The money given to the children by the strangers will then be collected by the men who keep it for themselves. Every day the children live in this way until they are killed, can escape, or go into another profession (unlikely though as they are disabled!). That’s why you see Salim help Jamal escape, he knows what will happen to him if they stay. 20:58 Yes, Verstappen wins every time! He's a good driver and Rebull's car is crazy fast! Ferrari's car can maintain speed during turns, but Redbull's can't, so in very twisty racetracks Ferrari is more likely to win.
Surprised it hadn't made it to the comments yet since I remember it being in the news at the time the movie came out, but the 3 child actors who played the initial/youngest ages were locals (as were much of the rest of the cast) and actually from the slums. After the movie, Indian authorities reportedly moved them and their families out of the slums and there was some concern raised in the global media about whether they were paid fairly. The director Danny Boyle and producer Christian Colson published a statement saying that on top of what the kids were paid for the days they worked, there was also money (amount remained private for their safety/prevent them becoming targets) put in a trust for the 3 lead child actors that would pay out when they turned either 16 or 18 (reports differ), the only requirement being that they stayed in school and graduated/got an education up until that point; reportedly there was also a rickshaw driver paid to make sure they had a way of getting to and from school if that ever became an issue. Also, the adult leads Dev Patel and Freida Pito started dating after meeting on this film and went on to have a 6-year-long relationship. Freida Pinto was also in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Immortals (2011, starring Henry Cavill).
you should watch more indian movies, although this one is based in india, it's an americanised version. You can start from 3 idiots, english vinglish, pink, etc

Somehow I'd forgotten about that one scene and was eating dinner while watching the beginning of this. Thanks for the commentary. Really enhanced the revolting experience :).
So nostalgic for this film! I remember dancing to Jai Ho when they played it at my school dance
India is so diverse like the amount of pics u see as western representation is so narrow minded. The natural beauty is also super underrated
I love the last question bc Jamal answered A the closest answer and he just wanted out of there to go see latika. It just happened to he the right answer 😢
I remember watching this back when it showed and it left such and impression. just thinking about it brings an indescribable feeling. and this is the first time rewatching it and there's really so much FEELS for me. It was so original and impactful and I cannot forget all these emotions.
Yo you guys, I know you get so many requests, but Dev Patel is really such a brilliant actor and he recently made his directorial debut with Monkey Man which is a great movie with a lot of interesting political undertones. There was a ton of stuff happening behind the scenes with it because of its political and Netflix, who originally were gonna stream it because they assumed it would just be "indian John Wick" didn't want to back it once they realized it was a bit deeper and spicier, but Jordan Peele saw it and convinced him to do a theatrical release instead. Another great great movie of Dev's is Green Knight which I think would work well on this channel. I honestly think he's been sorta sidelined in hollywood but hes about to have a meteoric rise.
Most people pass over the "panic purr" and "constable bicycle " question bc they don't understand it sets up the whole movie: knowledge and experience are two completely different animals...I love this movie so much
This is one of my favorite movies ever, I watch it for the first time when I was like 8 or 9 and never forget about it❤
Skins (UK) would be a GREAT show for you to react to if it's not too inappropriate for YT

One of the few movies that both my husband and I loved, as we have very different tastes on movies. I visited Mumbai for work and my coworkers showed me some of the scenes where the movies was filmed. It really is sad the poverty level in some spots.

so i’ve always taken the ending with our two brothers as such: both Jamal and Salim used the knowledge they gained through their upbringing to gain the wealth they’ve acquired. but. because of their character//moral differences their fates were completely different.
Such a great movie and book!

38:11 I used to watch the show as a kid when it was on constantly, and yes, when people say like "I know it isn't A" and then use 50/50, that answer A would always (90% of the time I'd say) be one of the ones to disappear you're right.

Absolutely love this movie. Super underrated and a great story.
Nostalgic movie
One of my favorite movies. Its so good
I recommend watching the the Life of Pi. I remember having to read this book and then doing a movie analysis
lol you guys gotta find some forgiveness and sympathy, Salim totally redeemed himself when he sacrificed his life for Latika's freedom. He was an A-hole for what he did to his brother and latika when they were kids but he also was a kid as well with a ton of trauma that affected him differently from his little brother. A kid who saved his little brother from going blind, a killed who protected his brother after seeing his their mother killed. All three of them had very difficult lives as children and young adults.

I mean did he need to rape latika and abandon his brother? He never even tried to help anyone else until Jamal found him again all those years latika was a sex slave because of him. Salim sucks
16:01 I think they were abducting children from here and there to have them beg on streets. They would make them handicapped so that people give more money.
Such a well directed film. The score was a masterpiece
