This film was nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture, but LOST the Oscar for Best Picture to the film you watched, No Country For Old Men.

In an interview with Daniel Day Lewis about this film, he says that he thought that the ending where he sends away his son, feels like a way to set his son free from the burden of being Plainviews son. He still has some humanity left in him, and knows that, although this will hurt his son, it will be a better life for him to be with his wife alone, than be a son of Plainview. I really like to see it this way.

Fun Fact: Daniel Day-Lewis is a method actor...so even when they weren’t filming he would remain in character to the point of scaring his co-star!

This movie... I've never had an individual actor pull me in like this. Totally mesmerizing.

Speaking of Paul Dano. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time, Little Miss Sunshine, is definitely worth a watch.

Speaking of Daniel Lewis, the movie "Gangs of New York" with him, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Cameron Diaz is great movie to react to as well.

The director of the movie said that while directing it, to him it always felt like he was directing a horror movie. Daniel Plainview was also partly inspired by Count Dracula. You can see the parallels, too. Daniel being obsessed with the "blood of the land", etc.

"I'm finished." With his dinner, and perhaps his freedom (if that murder is ever pinned on him -- and THAT'S a matter for debate), arguably, with his humanity/sanity, and hey, the movie's over, too. It's an absolutely perfect ending.

Very small detail: but if you look closely at Daniel’s signature at the beginning of the movie and again towards the end you’ll see how messed up and nasty looking it becomes!

Daniel Day Lewis is just something else! Have you not seen "Gangs of New York"? It's a must!

your reaction to Paul Dano's performance was amazing not many people appreciate that style of acting, so glad hes playing Riddler in Matt Reeves Batman.

Of all the movie memes, "I drink... your... milkshake!" is right up there for the weirdest one.
