BACOLOD, PHILIPPINES - Welcome to Bacolod, one of the food capitals of the Philippines! They are known for a few speciality foods, but probably the most famous, and a food you’ll find all over the Philippines is chicken inasal - a unique style of barbecue chicken! Today we’re going on an ultimate bbq tour in Bacolod, and we’re going to uncover the secret as to why it’s so good!
The Bacolod Food Hunters (bacolodfoodhunters.com/) - Huge thank you to Martin and the team from The Bacolod Food Hunters for taking me around in Bacolod and for showing me some of the best places to eat bbq!
Here are the locations and the places we ate in this video:
Aida's Chicken (goo.gl/maps/enTN2NsSg71cAiySA) - We’re starting at Manokan Country, probably the most famous place in Bacolod for chicken inasal, and it’s really so incredibly iconic. There are a few dozen places to choose from, but Martin recommended Aida’s as one of the local favorites. We were lucky to get into the kitchen to see the grilling action, and it’s some of the most exciting grill action you’ll see! One of the secrets of chicken inasal, along with all the marinade, is the continual basting of chicken oil and anatto as its being grilled. This keeps the chicken juicy and moist, and when you eat it, you eat more chicken oil in the rice.
Total price - 687 PHP ($12.53) for everything.
Chai Rose Barbecue (goo.gl/maps/azVUccHJSSRMQCxj6) - To continue this Filipino food tour we went to another legendary bbq spot on Bacolod known as Chai Rose Barbecue. They have insasal as well, but their speciality is pork bbq skewers. The taste is sweet and salty and it goes great along with chicken oil rice as well.
Silay City BBQ - We continued on to a small Filipino barbecue stall under a tree in Silay City. The family was so friendly and welcoming, and they have the full bbq spread of about 20 different skewers to choose from. The bbq was hot and delicious and especially good with Aunty’s homemade chili vinegar.
Total price - 170 PHP ($3.10)
Man Plaza - Finally to complete this Filipino street food tour of barbecue and inasal in Bacolod we went to one more legendary place - a place that’s frequented by local students in the area - Man Plaza. It’s an entire bbq plaza all under one roof with about a dozen stalls to choose from. We chose a place called Royam’s. Expect plenty of smoke and friendly people!
And that completes this ultimate Philippines barbecue inasal tour in Bacolod, one of the world’s greatest grilled chicken recipes!

When I was in the Navy way back in the 1980s, the number ONE port call for all the sailors was Subic Bay…. Among the many delights of Olongapo, was strolling down Magsaysay Blvd. enjoying the energy, sounds and aromas… One of the most enticing, were the small barbecues scattered along the street, barbecuing all sorts of different things on bamboo skewers… Nothing better on a hot steamy Filipino day then an ice cold San Miguel with barbecued anything… Thanks for bringing back the memories :-)🤙🏽👊🏽🤘🏽

Back in 2016, I saw your video about Filipino food. That was my first ever video watching of any food journey/food outside of my country. It was your videos that got me excited and educated about the variety of foods all over the world and I decided to visit the Philippines to eat all the good food. Finally on September 20, 2022, I landed on the Philippines and I spent 1 month there. I was mostly in Bacolod but also visited Cebu (only because of the carcar lechon) and Manila. I like to call myself a foodie and I had so much fun eating all the things Philippines has to offer only to realize 30 days wasn't nearly enough and I'll go back again to eat more food. All the food I ate there I experienced for the first time in my life and we all can guess it, all of them were "Sarap". I'd like to thank you for making all the food videos all these years which planted the idea in my head to visit Philippines. You came to Bacolod just after a few weeks of my deperture. I just wish I was still there when you came so I could try to meet you somehow (oh yeah, the nice people of Bacolod notified me when you visited there. We got all the updates from The Bacolod Food Hunters). Anyway, thank you again for making the videos and inspiring people like us.

So much flavor and creativity and not to mention always cooked with love. Filipino people are done of the most kind and giving people I've ever met. Loving every minute of your food tour through Visayas. I think that because there are so many language and dialects in the Philippines, that the food is more diverse than other countries. It seems like every language and dialect region has their own signature dishes. Sidenote: I know someone who is from Bacolod and her mother THROWS DOWN in the kitchen. She sometimes posts pics of her moms food: chicken inasal, grilled squid, la pa batchoy (I hope you, Mark, tries this) 😭

She’s right about Filipinos , “Filipinos love garlic.” I’m third gen filipino and I remember when I was a kid, my grandpa always cooking w garlic. When he made a dish with garlic. I tried a cooked clove garlic and I couldn’t stop!!!!! Decades later, I cant stop cooking with garlic or eating it raw. Garlic is mouth heaven!

I'm Filipina, Chinese, and Spanish. (also a proud granddaughter of a former WWII & Korean War U.S. Army Sergeant). I was born in San Fernando, La Union, PI.. My parents speak fluent Ilocano and Tagalog. Last time my family and I vacationed in my native country was the summer of 1983.. I was age 10, I always cherish the beautiful memories of walking through the outdoor markets, and seeing all of the various Filipino foods, and desserts! I got fascinated w/ watching a man quickly shave a giant ice cube to make halo-halo! Met so many relatives I didn't know I had. Going to turn age 50 next week, and would love to visit the P.I. again. Thank you, Mark Weins, for the genuine respect you have of our Filipino culture, and for sharing your experiences w/ enjoying the delicious food. "Proud to be a Pinay!!!" 🇵🇭☀️🌴💃

how about Zamboanga with Satti, Cebu with Lechon, Legazpi with Bicol express, Batangas with lom I and Bulalo, Vigan with bagnet, Jolo with Tiyula Itum, then Pampanga din of course. Our foods are so wonderfully diverse that there's no single center like with monocultural countries. instead we have numerous regional food centers. just like Japan with all of its regional specialities. no two regions cuisine's are the same. that's the best thing with Filipino food. :)
