    @@TheAlexagius Realistically for a boogaloo you want semi auto belt fed to conserve ammo. You aren't going to be able to get more ammo in a WORL situation. Also why it is important to stockpile handloaded components, not loaded ammo, since you can store more cheaper. A gun is an expensive rock if not fed. Anyone who has been shot at by a MG in real life knows that a full auto burst has no more suppresive effect than well aimed semi auto shots.

    Thatoneguy overthere the Army doesn’t have a new caliber and won’t till there is some radical change in firearms development that forces it. They have so much infrastructure invested in their current ammo that the minor ballistic improvement is negated by the inordinate amount of cost and logistics in such a change.

  • @masterof1

    @masterof1

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@andrewdriver3318 normally I would agree with you; however the army is beginning trails like they did with the modular pistol program. Numerous companies are already competing and there is a specification for 6.8 caliber. They are looking into replacing the m4 and are already leaning toward a possible switch to a bullpup design. It is far from being decided, but that does not mean we can't speculate and drool over companies designing new products.

  • @andrewdriver3318

    @andrewdriver3318

    Thatoneguy overthere I wouldn’t drool too much. When I first joined they were doing trials to replace the M4 and a new caliber and that was more than a decade ago. The cost benefit analysis always precludes a change. That isn’t to say you won’t see specialized units take advantage. If you do see a change it will be more incremental than radical, like the Marines going from m16a4s to hk416s. A side arm is much easier to change than the main small arm of your force.

    I have an Ares defense MCR and the trick is to tumble the links in your favorite media before you use them to knock part of the parkerizing off of them. Save your links because the more you run them the better they will feed. Yes these guns need to be run wet if you are running belted,magazines only like any other AR. I have run mine with TW25 B lube and not had any feeding issues. TW25 B is more of a dry lube so the gun stays cleaner. Great guns and lots of fun on range day

    I share his like for shooting bursts. I don't get an opportunity to shoot full auto every day (except in my dreams, LOL!) - in fact, the last time I did was over two decades ago. The highlight of that day, and the only belt fed gun, was a WWII German MG42, converted from 8mm Mauser to 7.62mm NATO at 1200 rpm. Rubber-neckers like myself were welcome to try out the fun by acquiring ammo from the owner in 20 round belts. The cost must have been reasonable because I bought more than one. The first belt disappeared before I could let go of the trigger, but I was able to achieve a couple of 5 shot bursts. 50 rounds seems too few to properly utilize the conversion to belt-fed since 60 round magazines are common, I would start with 100 rounds.
