Take a look at the SR-71 Blackbird and the A-12 Oxcart. They are why I have no belief in extraterrestrial vessels visiting Earth. @@RTFMhvac Probably means they thought people were pulling the trigger for a few rounds and then letting go, and then pulling a few rounds and then letting go. As opposed to the weapon being designed to fire 3 times before latching again and having to pull the trigger.

Agreed! Especially his video on how a Glock works. It sheds some light on how safe they actually are, even without an external safety. Would help new people carrying concealed be more comfortable carrying with a round in the chamber.

As someone who was raised in a firearm-free environment and now interested in getting into the rabbit hole of firearms knowledge, this series of animations is exactly what I've been looking for. Really excellent stuff that makes all the mechanical details easy to understand.

I honestly thought this was either an army or usmc intro course on how the ar15 works. Seeing the animation on the BCG would have been such a great tool to have back when I went through basic.

Don't forget it weighs as heavy as "10 boxes you might be carrying" and "fires 50 BMG rounds" XD

This is by far the best animated presentation of the mechanical operation of how an AR-15 functions.

Let us admire at 2:17 the miniscule rebound of the hammer and firing pin. He didn't have to animate that, probably very few people noticed it, but man it's these little touches that elevate this to an incredible degree.

I am a motion designer and can only say your work is so delicate and well crafted. The visuals and narration of this video is magnificent. This video is unironically a million times better than every attempt the Canadian Forces has done to show how the C7 (our variant of the M16/AR-15) works, not only being technically superior on every level, but in a way which is fascinating and genuinely captures ones attention. Its very easy for a video of this type to be dull. Great job!

Very cool animation! I used this rifle through out my entire infantry career and now own one at home. Best rifle in the world IMO

Guns are so cool in how intricate yet simple they are. Every moving part works together at the same time, given that the user is handling the gun correctly, otherwise malfunction can happen.

I'm just amazed at how all of this happens in the blink of an eye once this process is broken down.

The genius is always in the details. Crazy what the human brain can do to achieve something that it really wants to happen whether it is creating a weapon or this majestic animation.

This is beyond perfect. I watched a few videos that also had animations, and some that showed the actual parts in motion on a rifle, but this is a beautiful, comprehensive animation that shows everything. This would answer any of the questions I had about how they work. The 3 round burst in particular was something I could never understand until I saw it animated.

I just finished my first AR15 5.56/.223 build and I'm looking to start another in 300 blk. This is super helpful in learning more about the hows and whys of assembly as I go and even how I can better care for the parts of my rifle. Its helpful to know where the contact parts are and what i should be looking for during maintenance and cleaning.

I like how you can see how all the parts are working inside the gun. It’s hard to understand just seeing the outside of the gun but you nailed it!

Burst disconnector is the most unique part to me here. Never seen it in other videos, where it's usually just semi or full auto

Just picked up my first AR-15 today. I've been studying the videos online and spoke with the people at the store about it but this presentation really drilled home many of the concepts I wanted to understand, and I learned a bunch more. Thanks for this quality work!

As a Marine I fired the old M-16-A1. The internal functions have not changed since the rifle was first introduced way back around the time I was born (almost 65 years ago). When you've got something that works, you keep it. It's also nice to have these videos available to show people who don't know anything about guns that an AR-15 doesn't fire anything at a higher velocity just because it looks different than other rifles. It's the AMMO that determines velocity, not the gun.

Barrel length can affect velocity. 26 inch barrel to a 16 inch barrel can drop velocity 200 to 300 FPS in the .223/5.56 depending on the ammo. Dead on that looks don't affect velocity.

Velocity depends on both - Bullet and rifle

@@sgdadfgdfgadbdfbd nope. The combination of barrel length, barrel tightness, number of turns in the rifleing, bullet weight, mass and type of powder are determinating the velocity. A longer barrel can increase or decrease the bullets velocity, depending on the other factors. More spin helps to stabilize the flight path, but the more turns the rifleing has, the more it brakes the bullet while traveling through the barrel. Rifleing can't add energy, it consumpts it while using it to rotate the bullet.

I’ve been into guns my entire life, I’ve built them, modified them and fixed them and I’m amazed at how certain types of people can envision these systems and bring them to life. The fact that they were engineered without the aid of a computer is mind boggling.

@@Heywoodthepeckerwood It’s what they do for a living. It’s not unlike a surgeon developing a new way to remove a tumor from a brain or a software engineer writing a program to see a thrown hoop with a camera and fly a drone through it. High skilled professionals do impressive things.

Yup, all the precision fitting of parts, and even more impressive the dynamic balance of forces, vibration and harmonics all have to be right for it to work reliably. Then throw in having to account for different pressure and weights of cartridges. All in the details.

I love these videos! I use them all the time to show folks what I'm talking about with the action of firearms.

Mind blowing visualization of the rifle and wonderful explanation of its mechanism! Would love to see more guns in future! Keep it up! Cheers

Matt is not only a great animator but he’s also a terrific artist. His wear marks on his animations are second to none. This adds a level of realism you just just don’t see in other cutaway animations like this. Great work Matt.

@@evphex unfortunately I probably won’t do anymore after I finish the revolver animation. My channel has been on a downward trend, and people just aren’t watching as much 😞. The return on investment is very low for the amount of time put into these.

yeah the burst fire mecanism is pure genius

I work on automated packaging machinery and there are so many mechanisms that are alike in them and firearms. I love the engineering in all automated repeating machinery, so simple yet so complex and it all works seamlessly when maintained correctly. Great video, really.

Years ago I worked on high volume manufacturing machines. The parallels I saw between powered Gatling guns and continuous motion machines is strong. I always felt like it would be a fun project to make a powered Gatling gun.... just never worth the felony conviction risk.

@@matthewbeasley7765 Odd that you mention that. I saw a guy in the '80s make a pair of Ruger 10/22 rifles into a sort of Gatling gun, minus the rotating barrels. So it really wasn't a Gatling, just in the spirit of the rate of fire, lol. Later in the '90s I machined a few mounts and a some of the guys I worked with lent our 10/22s to the project for a 6 rifle array in the shape of a sunflower with a cam firing trigger actuator that was made from of all things, old bevel geared egg beaters, lol. Driven with a 7.2V Makita drill, the cyclic rate was insane and could empty 180 rds. in just under 30 seconds. Barring a jam that is. Accuracy was not of importance to us, we were just mucking about as my British friend put it. But after that we stacked a few of our Mini-14s together and used a chain driven cam system that was reminiscent of the 10/22 cam firing mechanism I saw way back when and it was definitely something to be feared. This was hand cranked and could empty 80 rds. as fast as you could move your wrist. And we used an old barn for target practice to see what target pattern we could follow. It was impressive to say the least as to how many rounds met the intended targets. Either setup could hold off any number of ne'er-do-wells with ease, lol!! Cheers.

@@genefogarty5395 Honestly, thought of a joke with the 10/22 Gatling Piece, and it just sounds funny to me so I’ll say it right now. "SHIT! MY GUNS JAMMED! GIVE ME A SECOND TO FIND OUT WHICH ONE!"

I remember asking Matt to do this exact video and he replied he would. And now that its finally here, I am NOT disappointed. No one does firearm animations like Matt Rittman. 👍

Such brilliant engineering. You would think it's simple but there are so many components that are required for a gun to fire, especially automatic. It's still complex but this breakdown provided a perfect insight

@@politecat9183 Delicate internals, Sturdy exteriors. Technically the internals are also sturdy, the design is delicate.

Matt please dont stop what your doing. These ar is some of the most digestable breakdowns of firearms I have ever seen, and people who know nothing about firearms I have shown always get something out of your videos. I hope you can show rarer gun especially guns from the first world war like the mp18 sub machine, madison light machine gun, and others. Either way I hope you keep up the success you definitly deserve it!

I think my channel is slowly dying, as I am just not able to produce these quick enough. It just takes me way too long 😞. You could never come up with this on your own, but it's so brilliantly simple. Masterpiece.

These videos are great man! Ive been using a little crosman SBR .117x4.5mm and the functions are almost identical since its c02 gas blowback, and this helps me to understand it more. With my rifle I know how to use it of course, but seeing the internals helps a lot with trying to figure out any new parts that may be needed(or wanted lol; treat yo self) and how those work to pick the best one for your build. Currently awaiting deer/hog season, hopefully we can get some deer or hog meat in the freezer- runnin low already.

It's like watching one of those educational videos from the Army made in the 30's and 40's crossed with a How It's Made style narration. It also continues to amaze me how such tiny pieces of metal control the rather violent movements of a gun. Little flat pieces of metal with even smaller cuts and notches control the combustion engine that is a firearm to a rather exact degree. Machines that seem so complicated from the outside but this animation makes the simplicity of their function quite apparent and I love it. Thank you very much for making this!

There’s no moving parts in a suppressor lol. It’s the same thing as a muffler. The hot gasses are just cooled and slowed by baffles and it takes out that supersonic crack

I dont think anyone said a suppressor had any moving parts.. What I meant and I should have clarified to avoid responses like this is how do the mechanics of a suppressor work. Mechanics does not mean there are moving parts either. It means “ the details of the way something works or is done.” I know how a suppressor works but seeing a video explanation like this would be awesome to watch and would be cool for people who do not understand how a suppressor works. Thats all.

I guess for people who have a low IQ or were dropped on their head, a simple explanation like that is all you can understand and I should have taken people like you into account. Sorry for my lack of insight into your deteriorated mental capacity. Seeing a video explanation would show the movement of the gasses through the firearm and through the baffles of the suppressor showing When a trigger is pulled and the striker ignites a primer and sends a bullet down the firearm barrel, it’s trailed by hot and expanding gases from the combustion of the primer and powder. Suppressors collect, cool, and reroute those expanding gases. Seeing the movement of the gasses and effects of the suppressor would be cool to see and would be nice for people who actually have a brain to watch. Maybe SpongeBob square pants is more down your alley? Sorry for over estimating your mental capabilities. I wont make the same mistake twice. =)

@@xAeschylusx Not necessarily a dumb question, it just works the same exact way a car muffler works. And there's really no such thing as a "silencer". That's the thing Hollyweird has screwed up.

This is an awesome resource for those who are interested in rifles but don’t have access to them. If you can get one and want one, I would highly recommend putting one together yourself! It gives you the upmost intimate knowledge of your rifle and the only critical parts are torquing the barrel nut. Everything else can be done fairly simply.

Thank you for such a great illustration, I’m not knowledgeable about the AR platform, but thanks to your schooling I now have a basic understanding of the mechanics of the AR. Much appreciated my friend.

I have to admit, I am not a fan of guns, but as a person who is a visual learner, I am truly impressed with not only how intricate and efficient this series of mechanisms work, but I am also very appreciative of such a thorough walkthrough!

@@LegendaryITA He's not wrong. I'm against violence of any type, but even still, there's nothing quite like it. I'd recommend that every person above 18 shoot a gun at least a few times, it's incredibly fun, and if you have the right teacher, incredibly informative. Gun safety can also be an excellent learning experience for those who don't fully respect the boundaries of dangerous tools, and it usually hammers home the message of humility and respect quite well.

You don't even need to be in possession of that tiny piece of metal for all that to happen, just have a grouchy neighbor!

Eugene Stoner was a genius. Great detail breakdown but left out the detail on how expanding gasses between the bolt & bolt carrier, is what actually pushes the bolt carrier away from the bolt thus unlocking the bolt.
