FGM: Jay's story -- A Londoner speaks out on female genital mutilation

Jay Kamara-Frederick was born and brought up in London but at 15 she was forced to undergo female genital mutilation during a family trip to Sierra Leone. She still has nightmares about what happened to her that day, but she says campaigners are wrong to call FGM child abuse. She explains why in this video. There is also an interview with Jay on the Thomson Reuters Foundation website:

She can define herself as she wants, but it doesn’t change what happened. Shame on her for minimizing FGM.

She doesn't minimise anything. What do you want her to do? Shout in anger and scream about injustices? She's having a calm discussion about a sensitive, graphic topic.
