I hope we too learn that lesson. FGM is illegal in the West, as it should, but MGM is common practice. It's 2018. How can we still amputate sexually sensitive tissue from baby boys without consent? Some say circumcised penises are more hygienic. Seriously, we'd rather mutilate boys instead of teaching them to clean themselves? Should we also remove the labia of baby girls to make the folds in the vagina easier to clean? (NO!) Stop genital mutilation!!!

Because someone that loves her won’t pay the dowery her father wants. Love requires knowing a girl, and men don’t get to know girls until they’ve been bought and paid for. The men also think that a girl who has not been cut is dirty. She’s a humiliation, a clitoris is considered too much like a penis, and being with an uncut woman is considered almost akin to homosexuality. Also they think an uncut girl is lustful, licentious and likely to be unfaithful. Men mock men with uncut wives. They cut those parts away to make sex an act of submission, not pleasure for the woman. If sex is only pain who does it without obligation? A man only needs a hole to be satisfied, his wife’s pleasure doesn’t matter. She lets him do as he pleases then gets up and makes his breakfast and tends his house and he’s happy.

I met her at the UN Women's conference in New York where she spoke fiercely and passionately. She travels and speaks at conferences around the world. Last year she spoke at a seminar in London. to everyone wondering about how nancy is doing now, from my own research i’ve found that she held a speech at UN in New York back in 2014 regarding her struggle with fgm. she’s an ambassador for an organisation for Women in her home country and i believe she’s in school aswell. though i cant find anything since 2018, her dream was to become a doctor at the time. :)) ah, and her full name is Nancy Tomee if you’d like to do your pwn research

I wrote a research paper on FGM is college. It being a "cultural practice" is not an excuse for this abuse. It's a violation of basic human rights, something everyone has.

elitadream Genital Mutilation is barbaric! The health of these young girls is seriously, and almost always effected forever after!!! I praise the women who are getting educated, and going back into their communities to work on this very significant issue! 🙏🏻

She was 100% right when she said "you can't compare education to cows. you will milk education more than cows"

i was cut when i was 7 years old and had my first surgery in 2020 and The emotional pain is far worse than any physical pain.

If they forced cut me... I would poison my husbands food. And fully castrate my husband in his sleep... balls and penis...And I would tell my father I hope the beer and cow was worth his manhood... and I would leave hidden messages to all the girls in the village...to tell thier fathers you will do the same if you are cut... no man will want to marry you... and you can finish school.... get your own job.. and choose to marry someone educated....

This is one custom that needs to go away. As a mother, I can't think of anything that would let my child suffer this!

When I had my son 17 years ago the government (of Canada) changed our OHIP coverage so that I would have had to pay for my son's circumcision which made me think it through a little more and do some research on whether it was actually needed... after I learned the truth I decided not to get him circumsized. Even though I was pressured to follow the "societal norm" by my family I refused to follow our Christian tradition that had no actual benefit. Many people told me why I was wrong, and I told them the facts on why I was right. Only education will help people change their minds, not your anger.

A baby boy getting circumcised, or a young or older adult for that matter is NOT mutilation, as female circumcision is. Anyway, GOOD luck n God bless.

Fgm is the the removal of the inner labia and outer labia and the closure of the vulva which during child birth results in complications and high death rate as well as a host of problems such as recurrent infections, chronic pain, cysts, an inability to get pregnant, as stated before complications during childbirth and fatal bleeding.

Thank you so much for showing the ‘un-cut ting’ ceremony it is encouraging to see the adults participating in the alternative ceremonies since so many have followed opposite advice for so long. It’s so important to set a new example for the whole community.

@El Doggo i agree. you don't get equality by hating a group, the way we have structured the world, is into groups, so in groups people will hate instead of hearing out everyone and forming their own opinion on individuals.

I did a college paper on FGM And was completely horrified. I can’t imagine what these girls and women must feel going through this. It is completely barbaric

I truly commend that father for changing his mind on cutting his daughter. He was raised in a culture that believes this kind of thing is normal for women, so of course he wasn’t going to back down easily. But to see him have a change of heart and support his child in her future endeavors really brought tears to my eyes.

This still hurts, 12 years later.

Nancy had incredible fortitude and tenacity - she never was fooled by her family’s constant guilt tripping - she stood up for what she believed in even though nobody stood with her - a truly inspirational woman

One day this girl will be on top of the world.

What a brave open minded man to change his mind with all the societal pressure and shame that comes with going against the culture, facing shame. He chose sympathy and empathy for his daughter. Change is possible.
