    It really is. If you're interested in more long-term narrative rpgs, I can recommend the Trails series, starting with Trails in the Sky. They have a lot of the same appeal that FFXIV does. Fun dialogue, character-focused stories with politics shown from the perspective of the individual, a long-term narrative that spans 10 games (and counting), interesting and in-depth world building, and fantastic music throughout. It's a good thing FFXIV isn't ending, but if you want more like it, then there you go.

    @@OmegaMetroid93 Only thing about that is that you don't have a fully customizable protagonist in those games, and that's part of the massive appeal of FF14, seeing your own character interacting with the world and forging bonds with the characters. It's good to hear the games are enjoyable, but imho, I doubt they can ever be near FF14's towering heights, or at least not in the same way.

    I've went through all main story quite calm, just having itchy pain in a ribcage and when I've got orchestion and turned in on my house it literally started to rain inside. Even if Jesse doesn't know context of this song and ffxiv story, he probably will feel this vibe through language of music.

    Having finished Endwalker, I have an idea of why these songs hit so hard even when you don’t know the context I think it’s because, looking back, the themes and ideas of these songs and stories is honestly so universal. The game deals with such relatable themes even when the topic is so fantastical, and the songs reflect that. Endwalker made me realize what the whole of the story of 14 was about, and it honestly couldn’t be more relevant to not only my life but I think so many people these days Such a beautiful game

    Ff14 for many is transformative you will find out things about yourself playing it you never realized and that carries over into the music so well. Just gotta be ready to have your emotions destroyed repeatedly and say thank you another.

    One of the things with Soken and the songs in FFXIV, is they can gave you a lot of emotion even without the context of the game. I send a song, Flow, to a friend of mine and she got amazed and the song hit her emotionally really hard. This sing is beautiful, and you don't need to play the game to realize that.

    When asked what song left the most impression while working on shadowbringers, Soken answered with this song. The first time he heard the song after the vocal recording got sent to him, he admit to cried hearing it, this song is really that strong.

    This song causes a visceral reaction in me. I bite my knuckles. I close my eyes. I struggle to talk. Shadowbringers was such an incredible story, no...experience. Sometimes all you need is a piece of music, a fictional story, a place to be, a conversation...to change your perspective for that one moment to really appreciate all you do have. Thanks you all the videos this year Jesse, i been lingering for a long time and your videos do make me genuinely exited, to share a feeling in something.

    The personal issues you speak about in the end of your video, are some of the hard questions the narrative of the story itself really explores phenomenally, just as through your own personal experience the music really pulls at your heart string weather you have gone through the struggles yourself or are so invested in the story it hits just as hard with the in game characters going through the same issues.

    People often talk about how this song or that song, or this moment in XIV makes them cry, but this song legitimately makes me cry every time I hear it. I listen to the lyrics and think about how it applies to my life, so it really hurts on lines like the one about living on in a song and to not forget your bygone kin, because my dad never got to see Endwalker. "Stand tall" makes me think so much how I have to not let these things weigh down my mind and my life, but to let the experiences of the past drive you instead. So, even though it makes me cry every time, I love listening to this song often.

    This is very much the feeling the game is going for. It plays as the characters finally finish an ordeal that literally pulled them across time and space, and return home, changed but stronger. It's simultaneously that relief of being home, but also knowing that you're stronger for having gone through what you did. I really feel like it's glowing praise for Soken's ability to communicate through song that the context of the game is not needed to get the feel, but knowing the context brings out a new weight and power to it.

    Imagine how these songs feel WITH context... They are beautiful but also terrible in a way. They tear at your heartstrings.... The love and loss of your companions and friends and even enemies who you've grown to understand, even if you oppose their ideals... I am glad that you found your own meaning in this piece.     This song is powerful on its own…when the game uses it in different parts of the game where there is meaning. Where your journey with character are involved…it hits hard. It is motif’d into other songs too, it being transformed and evolved to match the every expanding narrative. As we grow as character. As our views on the world changes, so does the music.

    For a couple XIV tracks that are definitely different, Lakshmi's theme "Beauty's Wicked Wiles" and Titania's theme "What Angel Wakes Me". Both are battle tracks that just... don't sound like it but they're great for both of the fights.

    This one hits extra hard with context but it's still so beautiful without.. I like how you touched on the overall themes of prevailing hope even without playing it. Goes to show how good they are at getting the feelings they want to across. The central theme of this game is despair, suffering, and the human condition and how the "light" of hope for the future and an appreciation for the journey itself make it all worthwhile.

    You were right to have that reaction, considering that's close to story context. This is the theme, mostly, of the world of the 1st, but it also hits on many, many points. Without going to deep, the world of the 1st, or Norvrandt as its denizens know it, had been consumed by basically the light apocalypse. One final major bastion of resistance remains: the Crysterium. A gorgeous city built off of an ancient tower. They are clinging to hope, even as their world is on the brink of collapse. It is a song of hope. Of not giving up, but also of living up to a legacy, because yes, one world did end for ff14 to begin. And this expansion is where we really start to learn about and understand what was lost. And I do agree, these themes fit amazingly well in our present state.

    There is a better orchestrated "live" version published on the FFXIV KZread channel that hits even harder. I was hoping you'd react to that one, but even the in-game song is so powerful it is worth a listen. For context, it plays after the final battle of the main story of Shadowbringers and the song is a plea from the hero to the villain, so lost in darkness is he that he feels he can't stop lest thousands of years of work and grief be for naught. "Stand tall, my friend. May all of the dark lost inside you find light again."

    Such a gorgeous song. And so many layers of meaning bc of the repetition of themes in the game’s writing. This applied to the first and us, the 8th umbral timeline and the exarch, and the ancients and Emet. All at once. And real life and the players, always.

    Until now, I've only liked the very first part of the song which was also used in the trailer (until "who falls?") but today somehow Tomorrow & Tomorrow hit way too hard. It's just 10 am, I'm not supposed to be crying D: But seeing your slight frown at the same moment I teared up was really reassuring that I was at least not alone xD I really like how these songs are also so beautiful on their own that you feel the same without knowing the context.     With this song and as recommended by some of the others in the comments, the end songs in Endwalker like Close the Distance, even if you have never played the game, have zero context or maybe aren't interested in the game as a whole, you can relate so much to the music. Reading the lyrics and letting it just, come over you in a relaxing wave, it really hits you and a part of you, whether past or present, that leaves you feeling emotional or hopeful. It's awesome to see people's emotions to certain songs like this because your reaction is what you feel in a moment, and every person's reaction is different and valid. I love it and isn't that what music is meant to do? Bring us all together in a way no one can explain? I would definitely check out the Endwalker music, because if you aren't crying like a baby during Close the Distance...oh boy.

    So one fun thing, this and Hades' theme 'Invincible' don't so much share leitmotifs as 'one of these is an orchestral arrangement and the other is piano and vocals', just try singing the lyrics to this along with the music from Invincible and you'll hear it. With of course the big swell in 'Invincible' being the part that goes with 'Eternal winds from the lands ascend, our journey will never end' (and itself a lyrical callback to the use of Eternal Wind from FF3 as the Crystal Exarch's theme).

    Well, Jesse, you may not have wanted to make the video about yourself (and I don't think you did), but your words helped me tonight just as the song and your recent life events helped you. I'm disabled and chronically ill, as my own content creation often refers to, and I go through periods of flares where things are just way worse. Every time, it feels like I can't go through another one and I'm done. So, it helped to hear someone say: "Whenever you feel like nothing's left and you have no corners left to turn, you feel like no one's there... Nothing is permanent, I guess. It'll get better." Last three words being most valuable of all, and as a former career voice actor, brilliantly worded. And yeah, I'm 37. Turning 30 was a weird time. We had the same idea - content creation started as a silly little idea, something to do, and now I try and use it to help people like me.

    Basically everything in FF14 hits so hard that it's scary - the music, the story, the characters. You are taken on such an emotional rollercoaster that all you can do is hang on for dear life. I'd suggest playing the game for yourself but I don't want it to slow you down from making these nice reaction vids. Plus, I don't think you can purchase the game right now XD

    I only discovered your channel today and I love it already. Hearing you talk about life after the song almost made me tear up! I can relate a lot, my life isn't great atm, don't really have close friends, and all this was very inspirational to hear.     Also, to make a suggestion: "Love the Subhuman Self" from Guilty Gear Strive. All the Strive themes are amazing, but subhuman self is really a standout track in an already great sountrack.

    Just recently found you, I immediately subbed and watched I think 7 vids in a row already. That being said in the beginning you even said you don’t really display emotion during your vids, but DAMN I could see the pure enjoyment you got from this one! Especially when the piano hit, and I think the chorus was speaking to you and your current situation/progression. Sorry if I got personal but it lifted my spirits to see someone gain a glimpse of happiness from something I also enjoy!

And these songs yeah they can hit hard in the feels, you may not play and unfortunately cant for now since they've stopped sales of the game but you got the message of the story. Without sorrow you cant find the moments of joy, carry on move forward and walk free.

    For what it's worth, the reasons that so many of FFXIV's songs Hit So Hard is that they build on previous themes and leitmotifs. ShB and EW had amazing tracks because they called back to events and songs from ARR, HW, & StB. There's a massive sense of, "oh, no way, that's- OH WOW!" when one of the "remixed" pieces plays and we remember the first time we Had That Experience. Our journey building on and calling back to itself. Some of my favorite tracks are ones that could not slap that hard if the source hadn't been totally heckin' amazing in the first place. But most importantly, it's the game's themes: hope and unity. Over and over we are dealing with turmoil and suffering. We do what we can, but sometimes we end up causing trouble as we're trying to fix other problems, or we are helpless to affect change. Time and again we experience loss, despair, and suffering. Over and over. But we never give up, because WE ARE NOT ALONE. All throughout our journey we encounter myriad people from all over the world, from different cultures, beliefs, customs, and more, and each time we aid them because it's the right thing to do, and those people end up coming to our aid later. We give people hope. We're strong because we don't *rely* on others, we lift them up to our side, and through that our true strength shines. And that's where EW shines, by bringing back those to whom we have extended a hand, and they lend theirs in return. Every time we fall there is someone there to catch us and make sure we're doing okay. Endwalker is a gentle reminder that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. And so many songs, especially the vocal tracks, emphasize that. There will be loss, there will be suffering, yes. But through the bonds you create with others you will stand again and forge ahead. And that so much of that can be conveyed, even to those who've not played, that's pretty impressive indeed.

    Stand tall my friend. I just found your Channel and watched your reactions to the Final Fantasy XIV Songs. I am from that community and I love the game to the bits - because of the music and because of the philosophical messages every game delivers. Life is suffering. We struggle, cry and suffer - but through that pain and suffering, we find hope and strength to rise again and move on. And that is what you expierienced aswell, didn't you? I don't know you, but I hope from the bottom of my heart, that you will always find the strength again to get up, fight and get through whatever hardship life throws at you. Thanks for your videos.     There is a reason why FFXIV is a critically acclaimed MMO that's so popular that they had to take it off the shelves to ease server loads. It is not just a game, or a story told through the game medium. It is an epic on the human condition, on our highs and our lows, our friendships and betrayals. It speaks of meetings and partings, of triumphs and despair. From the epic boss encounters, to the lowly dockworker, the music and world building, the development team has lovingly crafted not just a game, a story, but an actual world that we as the players feel like is a second home. This isn't just a game world, it is a world that is just as real to us as the one we live and work in. Every one of us is a Warrior of Light, journeying through an epic adventure that we can relate to on some level. Side note: Naoki Yoshida-san is an emotional terrorist that assaults the player base with feels, and we love him for it. I am looking forward to seeing what he'll be bringing us in the next ten years, now that we have closed the final chapter of the epic of the star.

    this song was written by the composer while he was fighting cancer. specifically all of patch 5.3, which this song was a part of. reading the lyrics and knowing that, it really makes you think.

    Stand Tall, my friend! :) Everything about that song is great, from emotional melodies to striking lyrics and that voice, the culmination with everything. Tomorrow and tomorrow is another marvelous piece. I love how they can manage to take you on a journey, the moment the song start, give you certain feelings, give you bit of sadness and something to reflect on, to wash it away later and reminds you about Life and Hope, and then leave you fulfilled, blissed, at the end :)

    Hey man, just watched back all your 14 reactions and since you listened to Locus, Metal and Brute Metal Mode I really think you should listen to "Rise" aswell as its part of the same "raid series" and is the theme of the final boss in that raid series, not to mention its just a kickass sing in general.     Shadowbringers Spoiler! This song plays for the first time in the game when you walk through a beautiful purple forest on a world that is on the brink of extinction. Most of the planet has been ingulfed in light 100 years ago, which causes life to stagnate, warp and vanish, leaving only a snow white, barren wasteland behind where nothing can survive for long. There is no night, only the brightest day at all times and you slowly make your way to a town called The Crystarium, a bastion of hope to the last surviving people in a small fraction of the world that yet harbours fertile lands. This song is also the theme of the town and represents everything it stands for: Survival and shelter for those who decided not to give in to their cruel fate while they wait for a savior that might never come. And this savior is you.

    Ah this just sums up Shadowbringers perfectly. It always plays at such beautiful moments. While Endwalker does enhance Shadowbringers, i can't not think of my time playing Shadowbringers when I hear this piece.
