Insanity is the name of the song, and I think that fits that insane piano part, lol. Innocence is the boss name. When you come up to him the first time, you're like, wtf why is this guy called Innocence? If a character you've met is previously a boss, they usually give a different name for the boss from the character, so it lets players talk about the "Innocence" boss battle without spoiling for other players who that refers to. Although the name Innocence does make sense in a rather twisted way when you learn about his past.

2 more things: the boss is named "innocence", and when I arrived at this scene, it was very emotional. The game really builds up a righteous loathing of this boss, who is supposed to embody indulgence, corruption, and nobility, and the direct cause of just horrific atrocities. He runs from you, or is too far to fight, so there's this enormous tension as the hero finally gets to strike back at this monster, and then this really tranquil intro is a beautiful contrast to the emotions of the player.

Also, I believe Soken has said only something like 30-40% of the tracks are performed with live instruments mostly due to time limitations. Most of the compositions are via DAW. Some back of the envelop math comes out to about 6-10 tracks per month, plus he isn't just the composer but also sound director, and before getting into composition professionally he got his start in sound effects. He's incredibly resourceful in using the tools at his disposal, for example the vocals most of the earlier tracks are either from sound libraries if it's generic wordless vocals, or either himself or someone from the dev team does the singing and filters are added in post. In a 2016 FanFest live concert he performs a track on piano and cardboard box. As in he literally kicks a cardboard box as a percussion instrument. Actually I wasn't sure what my next request was going to be, but I think that's it!

  • @maracaegrizzley8734
    @maracaegrizzley87342 жыл бұрын

Shadowbringers, as an expansion, deals in one particular trope, "Light is Not Good". A lot of times people seem to assume that Light = Heavenly/Beautiful = Good and in Shadowbringers, that is subverted because while A = B, neither equal C. So Innocence, and the villains of the expansion, appear Heavenly and Beauteous, they are NOT Good. There's also some gaslighting going on in-game with the "Sin Eaters" being named according to their "sins", but those strike me as less "besetting sin" and more "greatest virtues" except *described* as being sinful. Someone who enjoys life might be turned into "Forgiven Cowardice" as a Sin Eater because they were fleeing for their life instead of facing death proudly. Or one who did might be called "Forgiven Bravado". Innocence was named such because he became a Sin Eater while he was still enwombed and, thus, had no traits of any sort to "forgive". This particular song, though, is my absolute favorite in the whole amazing game. It's just so gloriously beautiful and chaotic at the same time. And trying to do this fight while STILL listening to and appreciating this music is a special level of hell. The only fight that's worse is trying to do The Seat of Sacrifice while listening to To The Edge AND knowing about what Soken was going through at the time he wrote it.

That's the normal mode of Innocence. There's a harder version that we farm for mounts. The Fat Guy is Lord Vauthry who is a main villain, but a lot of the theme here involves his ascendance. Innocence is also his Light Warden title as all the Light Wardens have a Latin name for one of the types of love. Innocence is the love you have for your children. Also, part of what you say is Genreless is trying to capture a gospel sound. *edit* A correction. Storge (also the 4th Light Warden of the 5) Love is Familiar Love. Innocence is Platonic Love. The other bosses are Philia (Brotherly Love, or your love for friends) Eros (Erotic Love), and the unnamed Light Warden that took Titania is Mania (or wild unpredictable love).

When he was a baby, Vaultry (the fat man) is transformed into a monster. As he grows, he commits many awful crimes and becomes the leader of the monsters(Sin Eaters) of this expansion. Very easy to hate because he treats people like objects or food. If you look at him closely as he descents the stairs, there's a baby face where his heart is supposed to be. Innocence could refer to that baby who never had a chance to become anything other than a monster or perhaps his lack of conscience, like an innocent kid. So when you kick his ass, you get a mixture of 'Fuck yeah!, we killed this asshole" mixed with a sad reality of a being corrupted from birth who never had a real choice. The whole Shadowbringers expansion is full of tragic figures who at first are easy to hate, but when you learn more; it is always sad circumstances. Corrupted from birth like him (Innocence) Driven mad by duty (To the Edge ; you listened to it in the past) Fallen hero who is the last hope of a dead people (You haven't reacted to this one yet :) ) Amazing story that is made even more incredible by the music that sets up all the FEELZ Glad you enjoy them.

The titles of FFXIV songs are actually tightly tied to lore and story :) as someone has mentioned already, Innocence is the name of the boss. SIde note: the repeated chorus of "The road that we walk / Is lost in the Flood / Here proud angels bathe in / Their wages of blood / At this, the world's end do we / Cast of tomorrow" is actually the same words as from the Shadowbringers main theme song, one you already reacted to. FFXIV is really big on leitmotifs, and this main theme can be found through the entire expansion, multiple tracks (Insatiable, Innocence, High Treason, The Dark Which Illuminates the World, Knowledge Never Sleeps, etc etc).

There is a palpable shift in genre between Pre-Shadowbringers, which was composed by Uematsu, and Shadowbringers, which is Soken. Uematsu is all about the big sweeping orchestral landscapes and operatic vocals. Soken is rock 'n roll and experimental fusion. And the Nier raids are their own thing. If you listen to any more music from Puppet's Bunker, The Copied Factory, or Tower at Paradigm's Breach, that is music originally from the Nier and Drakengard games remixed for FFXIV. Very distinct from the game's other tracks.

As some others have said; most bosses have a 'story' version that has a difficulty level that makes it accessible to most people on a single attempt with strangers (so that everyone can enjoy the story and not run into walls that prevent them from advancing), and a more difficult version that offers a challenge and generally needs a good bit of work to learn. Sometimes the harder versions have extra song bits or modified versions of the original song! So since I only did the regular version of the fight it was interesting and fun to learn the mechanics, but easily clearable in one or two attempts. Seeing the transformation had me 👁👄👁 💍. There's actually a really good Japanese artist on twitter who draws a lot of Innocence (the angelic form) that I love, OH, and another good artist who draws Vauthry (the jumbo guy) in very cute comics with their own bunny girl character that make him super funny and human.

Keep going back to this specific reaction, always, because your excitement towards the track is same and dope knowing someone like self and others can dissect every instrument and vocal while it plays, like every single 'ding' and string touched and everything in the back. it's such an appreciative and underrated natural "skill" or feel for some of us in the under/over world lol. Like, "do you hear that bass back there or those other sounds waaaay in the back?" LOL. Hey, you got a fan of the FFXIV reaction, but a broke one lol for now. As a Swing/Jazz DJ and a person who teach dancers how to hear the music better, I always enjoy listening other people what they find in the songs. There were days when I probably couldn't hear all those nuances, but I got there, and It''s a blast now, to hear every song to it's core details and be able to hear every instrument separately and with others the same time. That's why I love FF music, because in XIV especially they strive to give us so many different feelings and ideas and propositions, that I could drown in that music. I have around 2000 hours and I never even once thought to maybe listen something else while playing the game. Many times I like to come back to specific raids/boss battles, only because I miss the music and that feel. Cheers for all good work and for spreading FF passions! ;)

This boss has 2 versions, the version in the video is the easy story mode version that every player needs to beat to continue with the story. Aww missed the premiere but YES I've been waiting for this one! Took the words right out of my mouth about the perfection of the loops and transitions not just here but with the entire game. The piano here in particular is godly and I love the distortion on the vocals (which come from the main theme for Shadowbringers and are the leitmotif of the expansion). Much like everyone else here.... "Oh no he's hot!" We knew of the transformation's name, appearance and existance before ShB came out, but I at least completely blanked on the name connection and was shocked when fat man was actually the guy I had been wondering about all expansion. Also 500? YOU UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER /cry cackles in 10,000 hours/ I've been playing for 8 years don't look at me...

The first time I did the fight it...for lack of a better term, put me kinda in a trance. It's really hard to describe the moment. I just kinda slurped up the atmosphere and reacted to the mechanics automatically. But as for the theme itself, a fun thing is that it's a combination of the two main musical motifs used throughout the Shadowbringers storyline.. -The first one is the "The Road that we walk, is lost to the flood..." vocal part is a commonly remixed music motif throughout the shadowbringers storyline. Often used in scenarios that show the sorry state the area the story takes place in. -The second one which I don't know if you heard, is for a track called "Tomorrow and Tomorrow." in Insanity, it's the motif you hear at 2:41 in the video, the big booming epic orchestral part." Which is functionally the opposite of the first motif, kinda a "Theme of Hope" for lack of better phrasing. Final Fantasy loves doing the thing where there's a 'Main villian' and "the greater threat behind them that's the True Main Villian" and you can think of Insanity as the theme of the 'Main Villian' as opposed to the true Main Villian of the storyline.

I love this fight, I can't emphasize it enough and it's mostly due to the music. My favorite part is that abrupt stop and when it drops back in; every time I do this fight I'm hyped for that part in specific and have to avoid headbanging to the rock portion. This fight has two instances; this version in the video which is part of the main story as a sort of prelude to the big finale portion of the expansion story and a second version that's just a harder version of the fight where you fight only the second angelic form (Innocence). I can think of a number of fights like this though, where the mechanics, the atmosphere, the music all hits just right and I feel the desire to go back again and again and again (like Return to Oblivion). Also I feel like it's worth noting that this fight is a perfect lead up because the story cutscene afterwards is a huge emotional devastation, the "everything is going wrong, all hope feels lost" part of the story so to speak. Also everyone is somewhat traumatized by the evil fat guy turning into this beautiful angel man, almost every run I get someone saying "Oh no he's hot" in the chat.

His form is supposed to be of an Angel....specifically St. Michael the Archangel...and you know Final Fantasy they love their mythos and how they love to chew the edges of Christianity... Also the dungeon that leads up to this fight is a allegory of man ascending into heaven. Since the kingdom of heaven is supposed to be adored in marble of the whitest sheen and trims of gold. As other's said for difficulty. Final Fantasy 14 difficulty can be broken up into three distinct tiers. 1st is Story Mode....this is the easies difficulty that is supposed to be accessible to everyone at any skill level. This includes dungeons, Primal Fights and The Raid quests fights. (4-8 players) 2nd Is Savage Mode/Extreme Mode. Extreme Fights are exclusive to Primal (Eikon) bosses within the trials (Infrit, Grauda, Titan, Ravana, Innocence ect). Savage tier is the higher end difficulty for the Raid storyline, The Binding Coil of Bahamut was the only Raid to not have a story mode, however Alexander, Omega, and Eden all have a story and savage aspect. These fights drop weapons and gear, Primals often dropping weapons (at the start of the expansion 1 boss will drop weapons, other boss will drop accessories). The raids will drop High end Gear at max item level and final boss (after every 4 fights) drops a weapon and mount. 3rd is the highest end difficulty. This tier is called Ultimate and specifically it remixes old previous fights (primals or raid tiers) into a boss gauntlet that can last from 16-24 minutes. This demands the highest attention to detail, skill and concentration. Rewards are titles and weapon galmours. Currently there's three Ultimate Fights with one of them being delayed to patch 6.1. [The Unending Coil of Bahamut, The Weapons Refrain, and The Epic of Alexander]. This tier is optional and its pretty much in the game for those who want a challenge.

This was a really fun boss but far from the hardest. As a casual player I can't really comment on the Extreme version of the fight but for the casual battle it has mechanics that trip up a lot of first timers and I find it very fun. For starters he hits surprisingly hard, a lot of his AoEs inflict debuffs that cause you to take additional damage so even a tank can be one shot from his follow up attacks, the add phase has mobs that need to be killed in order (the tether you see in the video) or else the party gets wiped, and then there's the unusual markers such as the clockwise AoE where you either need to run to avoid it or find the safe spot to avoid.

My experience with the fight - Innocence was one of the two "Trial" fights in the game on Shadowbringers release; as a result, even the 'Extreme' version wasn't very difficult, since it was intended to help people gear up at the start of the expansion. It still did some pretty fun things with mechanics, though, and it was a fairly fun and also visually stunning fight. The attack where he launches swords out to the sides of the arena like wheel spokes, and then they come back across several seconds later, was probably one of the more 'gotcha' attacks in the fight, if only because it's so easy to forget they're there when you're just starting.

As a boss, Innocence is a fun if unforgiving fight (for tanks or anyone who gets hit by certain attacks that give you a type of debuff that can and probably will get you killed). As every fight in XIV, it has a rhythm that when you understand you can go without getting hit once. So in a way you can see all of those fights as dance offs xD! I'm glad you looked through this one. I've always loved this OST since I first heard it, reminds me of a couple Ragnarok Online music (cannot recall which ones because I love them all but I believe it was Believe in Myself mixed with another map music). Insanity and Equilibrium have my heart as Trial (Boss) songs. Hope you have fun with most of the FF XIV OST since, as things are going, you'll probs end up listening to all of them :V . Now off I go, back to lurking and leaving likes.

"What is your experience with this boss?" Well, he's got two difficulty levels: Normal and Extreme. Normal is basically everyone saying "OH NO HE'S HOT", so I just type "Say the line, Bart" whenever the game's Roulette system puts me in it. Extreme was a very fun challenge to complete with my friend group, even if most people can steamroll it these days. Overall, one of the more fun bosses this expansion, with yet another banger of a track under it.

Generally the bosses are challenging but not too hard as this one in particular is a boss you have to beat for the story to progress. My experience was just "OH NO HES HOT". Just the whole package of the fight, the transition, the buildup to that fight everything is a massive work of art.
