Only *about 5% of players ever manage to clear this fight* (Ultima Weapon Ultimate, or UwU - on average across all servers), according to data from July 2021. Basically, what you witnessed happening in this video takes days, if not weeks of practice and insane dedication & coordination from all 8 players in the party.

    For clarity's sake, "The Minstrel's Ballad" and other flowery titles ahead of stuff like that is referring to difficulty level. In-game, there's a bard that you tell about your adventures and he makes songs based on them while admitting to "embellishing" details, and that's how you unlock the harder versions of endgame stuff. "The Weapon's Refrain" takes several fights and combines them into a single long endurance fight, something that is done again several points, like the Unending Coil of Bahamut. It's kind of a neat way to reuse old content, cranking up the difficulty to be in line with later content, giving a real test to see how well you remember older fights. That said, there's nothing story related in these fights, it's all primarily for bragging rights.

    Your impressions about these themes are spot-on accurate. This is an Ultimate-Level fight. These are special fights that have 4 distinct phases, AND you must do all of them without wiping even once. It can take a group several days, even weeks, to clear an Ultimate. These battle also have a strict gear level cap. This fight has a Item Level sync of around 355, and cannot be run unsynced. This is also 100% optional content. There are no major rewards for clearing it aside from getting a glowy weapon glamour and a title for your character.

  • @copjing
    @copjing2 жыл бұрын

    My very first ultimate fight! Ultimates in FFXIV are the hardest content available and are challenged purely for bragging rights and not for gear. They give you a unique title and a flashy glowing weapon for completing them. They also feature a permanent sync which forces your level and gear-score down to the intended level of the Ultimate so that no matter how geared you get, you can never truly cheese the fight. These fights are extremely long (16-18 minutes) and have no checkpoint, meaning if you wipe all the way at the end you have to go back to the beginning. There are currently 3 of these Ultimate fights (soon to be 4! super excited for Dragonsong!) and this was the second to be released and is currently considered to be the easiest of the three. There are many reasons for why it's the easiest that I won't go in to but at the end of the day it is still an Ultimate and is still very difficult. This fight took almost 8 months for me to clear with me jumping from raid group to raid group until eventually I found a group good enough to clear and I legit cried when we actually did.

    The thing about this song is that the main boss, the Ultima Weapon, eats those previous Primal bosses to power up so for this Ultimate fight the music goes through remixes of those Primal themes before transitioning into Ultima Weapon's theme itself. It's super cool. I think when you noted that you heard something in Titan before it was from the Eden raid version you reacted to.

  • @celadore
    @celadore2 жыл бұрын

    Alright, this will be my attempt to clarify all the versions of the Ultima fight songs in this game. I wont include songs that use small sections as a motif because I would be here all night. Hopefully this helps... more than likely it will confuse things even more. Potential Endwalker spoilers below the asterisk line. Ultima Weapon was the final boss trial of FFXIV Realm Reborn. It is a 2 phase fight with different music for both phases. Phase one is titled 'The Makers Ruin', and phase 2 is, appropriately enough, 'Ultima'. This is not what we just listened to. FFXIV releases harder versions of boss fights for additional challenge as the game continues. The in-game justification for this is that a wandering minstrel hears your tale and... embellishes it a bit. So 'Minstrel's Ballad: Ultima's Bane' is just a hard mode version of Ultima, with the same song. 'Minstrels Ballad: The Weapon's Refrain' is, as you just saw, a whole nother beast. This is a super-hard boss rush of all the early Trial bosses through Ultima (Garuda, Ifrit, Titan), with crazy visuals and new musical arrangements for each one. This is one of the 'Ultimate' category of boss fights. But wait, there's more! A rock arrangement of 'Ultima' that I think is called 'The Sorrow of Werlyt' plays during the Ruby, Saphire, and Emerald Weapon trials. A melancholy arrangement of 'The Makers Ruin' is used as Ardbert's theme in the Shadowbringers expansion and is titled 'More Than Truth.' A medley that includes 'The Makers Ruin' is used for the Omega's battle music, titled 'Heartless.' A different medley that includes 'The Maker's Ruin' is the Omega Alphascape 4.0 boss music, titled 'From The heavens.' ****************** ENDWALKER SPOILERS ****************** The (incredible) Endwalker expansion final boss, also called Endsinger or The Final Day, is a 2 phase fight with incredible new medley arrangements that include both of these songs. Phase 1 includes Ultima, Phase 2 includes The Makers Ruin *** Hilariously, while you've reacted to a lot of these, I don't think you've actually reacted to the original arrangements of Ultima and Maker's Ruin yet.

    In FFXIV, the hardest content in the game is completely optional and is strictly for bragging rights only. The fight here is Ultima Weapon Ultimate (UWU), a level 70 (the current cap is 90) ultimate fight. There are currently 3 of these types of fights at varying levels with a 4th being released soon, but one thing is consistent: you are level and gear synced to whatever level the ultimate fight is. So no matter how much endgame gear you have, you're still capped at what they want you to be in order to get the full experience at the hardest possible difficulty.

    "is this fight hard? tell me I'm right" this fight traumatized me so hard I start wanting to cry every time I hear his theme, great fight, titan is in fact an ass, safe zones are tiny and very pin point precise on all phases, if one person is a step out of line they can wipe the whole group and you will need to start the 16min fight from the beginning... and this is considered the easiest of the current 3 ultimates with a 4th one being added soon (there is this one, Unending Coils of Bahamut, The Epic of Alexander and the next one is going to be Dragonsong Ultimate) Edit: another cool fact is because all these fights are on strict timers the music can actually be a huge aid as certain sections of the songs will line up perfectly with important mechanics.

    Fun things: You've heard Titan's (Under the Weight) and Garuda's (Fallen Angel) themes. Ifrit was new, but those versions were the Primal's versions which were recorded for that fight. Ultima's theme is reused in some other tracks you should check out which are remixes of the Original Ultima... so there's 4 versions... Ultima (original), Ultima (Choir/Primas) which you 've heard, Ultima (Ruby/Emerald/Sapphire Version) and Ultima (The Sky Deck, Diamond Weapon's version). They all have the same lyrics which is basically "The Heart of Sabik" chanted over and over. However, the misheard lyrics players like to use are "Big Fat Tacos" Oh. And all versions here are arranged by Soken, though Ifrit's theme, Primal Fury, was ORIGINALLY composed for 1.0 by Uematsu.

    to expand a little on this: Final Fantasy has a long running history of re-imagining and re-using the same enemies, bosses, characters and names. Ultima (Weapon) is one of these and can be found as a final boss (hence the name) or optional boss in MANY games of the franchise. In FFXIV it is the final boss of the original base game "A Realm Reborn". The very first "final boss" the MMO had before any updates, expansions or whatnot. It also has a major role and connection to music you've listened to because of the story. It basically takes over the power of Garuda, Titan, Ifrit and makes it its own. You've listened to Titan and Garuda already, so you'd recognise those melodies, Ifrit is the another boss fight you have very early on in FFXIV and is in fact the first real "BOSS fight" (which is called a "Trial" in the game). The Weapon's Refrain - as others mentioned - is the "ultimate" version of that boss. Think Perfect Cell or maybe Boo from DBZ as a comparison. And because of that it incorporates those other boss themes, like it took their power and some of their visual features :) Now, for the other renditions ... in short (and simplified because FFXIV lore gets complicated) those who "made" the Ultima Weapon made more than one and tried to improve them over time. "The Black Wolf Strikes again" does actually come from one of these Ultimate Weapons and so do other renditions of "Ultima" as a song.

    Ultimate fights encapsulate an entire story's worth of fights and The Weapon's Refrain (commonly called UWU for Ultima Weapon Ultimate) is the story of ARR told to massively blown out proportions by a bard who loves to tell our stories to his crowds. They are one of, if not the hardest, pieces of content that FFXIV has to offer. The music in them is generally rather uniform where you get music pertaining to whatever phase of the fight you're in. However, every ultimate fight (except UCOB but that gets a pass cuz it was the first one) ends with an orchestral version of a theme to solidify the ending of something truly grueling and tough. I recommend watching The Epic of Alexander next (or TEA for short) or Dragonsong's Reprise (also DSR for short) They have absolute masterpieces of music tied to them and fill you with massive amounts of adrenaline everytime you reach the final stretch

    I don't think you've quite heard the titan section theme before (or at least the channel search didn't turn that up), so the reason the Titan section sound familiar may be because of _Landslide:_ It's the theme of "Eden Titan", sort of a remix of the original Titan boss (seen here, as a visiting actor in this special gauntlet fight), and fittingly, the theme is a sort of remix of _Under the Weight,_ the original Titan's theme (which you hear here).

It's another ultimate tier fight that goes through 4 different songs similar to this one, and you've actually heard the original version of the first two songs in the Epic of Alexander, those being Locus and Metal: Brute Justice mode. If you want to hear the original versions of the Epic of Alexander's latter two songs first, they're called 'Moebius' and 'Rise'. Great video and I love what you do here on the channel!

    The great thing about the Ultima phase of the track is that while the song has triumphant moments, if you look up the lyrics, you'll see that the choir is actually singing against you. The main lyrics you keep hearing are "Beat, the Heart of Sabik, the Heart of Sabik". The Heart of Sabik is what powers the Ultima Weapon, and so they're essentially singing it on to motivate it to destroy you. It's quite amazing. Also: "I hope this fight is hard" Yes...it is quite hard. This fight is one of 3 (soon to be 4) fights in the game that are labeled an Ultimate fight, which are the hardest content in the game. They always have a gauntlet of bosses that you fought in the story already (but were much easier in the story), and last from 16-18 minutes. They pretty much require that all 8 players know exactly what to do and when, or else the whole group gets killed and you start back at the very beginning of the fight that you see at 1:45. And just to give an idea how hard it is, this specific fight you saw, The Weapon's Refrain (Ultimate) took our group roughly 2 and a half months to clear it. And here's the real kicker: This is the easiest of the 3 Ultimates. It's honestly less about mechanical skill and more about mental perseverance. There are so many moving parts to the fight that you can't just bash your head against it and have good reflexes to clear. It's more about problem solving skills. However if you can clear it, you get some amazing looking weapons as a reward. Here is a great sword you can get from clearing the fight you watched: giant.gfycat.com/ThirdConsiderateDairycow.webm

    One of the best things about the FF14 soundtrack is that they do variations, remixes, and medleys of songs so you can get a completely different vibe from an old familiar track that you're hearing in a new way. They basically run alot of the music through a Möbius strip and you get done listening with a feeling of "I never realized this song could feel *this* way." Makes even the old chestnuts from A Realm Reborn (FF 14 base game) feel fresh.

    So the Garuda song you did before was the original one, from her individual fight. What you are listening to here is more like a boss run - a bunch of different bosses from the game in one fight one after the other. The song for this fight takes the original themes from all the original fights and puts them together (slightly remixed). This entire sequence is really hard. You have to do it all in 1 sitting - Garuda, then Ifrit, Titan, and finally Ultima Weapon, all without wiping. It can take around 15-20 minutes just for the fight and is very mechanically intensive. You get a title and a badass weapon for completing it though.

    Ultima Weapon Ultimate (UWU) is one of my favorite fights in the game because of the transitions you get with the music. You are mostly correct in the sense that you do this fight after you hit the max level in the game but not necessarily as part of completing the story of the game. These fights (Unending Coil of Bahamut, The Epic of Alexander, The Weapon's Refrain Ultima) are a set of fights that are the hardest in the game and are a challenge for those who want to test themselves. If I remember correctly, you've heard Titan's theme before. Probably 2 months ago at this point.

This rendition is more similar to "Under the Weight", the original Titan theme :D Wow, I think I died a bit at the start of Ultima right after the choir introduction. I've always loved that theme but have NEVER heard this version before! So I also never knew there was an orchestra version to this, thank you so much! I do love the live rendition more though, as it's closer to the original, while the one in the Ultimate fight is a slight remix, but that was just beautiful ♥

    This boss is Ultima Weapon Ultimate, Ultima specifically has Hard difficulty ( fought in main story quest ); Extreme difficulty ( fought in the weapon's refrain ) Ultimate ( the ultimate difficulty in the weapon's refrain ) Every time you fight a boss, and the difficulty increases, the attacks also get more complicated and intense, so boss difficulty isnt just damage and HP

    So UWU (Ultima Weapon Ultimate), as it's called, is one of the few absolute hardest fights in FFXIV. so far there's only 3, and what they've done is they've taken old ARR/HW fights and put a few of them into one long (almost 20 minutes usually), brutally difficult medley. The Primals band recorded new versions of all these bosses themes as well, so that might be why you recognized them but they were still different. If you want another medley of ff music like this one, the whole of the music in The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate) is a great set.

  • @BaronVonHoovy

    The fight (Ultima Weapon: Ultimate... aka UWU) is canonically just a reimagining of the actual fight from the story based on a wandering bard's exaggerated retelling of the tale and your own character's imagination and imperfect memory of the encounter. Which is the case for a number of other fights (which is where the Minstrel's Ballad thing you mentioned comes in). So it's entirely optional since it has no bearing on anything in the story, and everything's cranked up to 11 in terms of both coolness and difficulty.

    "is this fight hard" yes... i remember spending like a year trying to clear this 3 times a week, 2 hrs each session...that titan part alonetook us like 10 months i swear. when you clear it you'd be flexing the awesome weapon and the title you get from it too. The last part especially is super gripping because at the last few percentage of the boss hp, he starts casting this ultimate attack that will wipe the entire party when he's finished and while it's going on, he starts trapping your party member one by one, starting from tank > healer > dps. So you're just furiously trying to kill the boss and the trapped party members are just sucking their thumb praying that rest of the members can finish him off. Oh the screams that we screamed when we did clear......

    Hey Jesse! Just recently came across your channel. I'm sure you've already had this explained to you, but Weapon's Refrain's first two phases are (Spoilers incoming below, don't read further if you're not caught up on A Realm Reborn unless you're not bothered by spoilers and just want some mild context) -- -- Bosses you fight on their own and as part of the story get consumed by Ultima. The reason why you thought you heard the themes before are because you did --- They had their unique themes remixed for the Ultimate fight that uses them, and the third part to the first two bosses (The fire one) gets mixed in with Ultima as opposed to getting his own phase... Probably because his theme is way less iconic. I don't know the actual reason, but you're not crazy, they did re-use Garuda and Titan's themes as part of the Ultima fight.

    ok so, the Weapon's Refrain is the name of this particular fight, also known as Ultima Weapon Ultimate or UwU for short XD Ultimates are the 3 hardest, longest fights in the game right now and they all reward you with a "Legend" title as well as weapons with unique glowing textures depending on the fight. The OST uses different versions of the primals' themes (Garuda, Titan and Ifrit) as well as a remix of Maker's Ruin and Ultima, both of which are themes of Ultima itself. That's why this can get confusing XD

    The amount of tension you feel going from the primals into Ultima for the first time is unreal. The primals have you rocking out the whole time and then the mood suddenly drops and it gets so serious and threatening, and then you get into post-Predation and it explodes in triumph. There is no song called “the weapon’s refrain” that is just the name of the fight. Heck the first 3 songs are ripped right from the album “From Astral to Umbral” I’m not sayin’ it’s a bad thing you got duped into watchin’ this, cause the music is great regardless, but do consider picking up XIV for yourself once the hype for Endwalker dies down enough that SQEX decides they can sell it again

The original song is called "Under the Weight" and while it's close to what you heard in this Ultima fight, I still prefer the original. Also, fun fact: This fight against Ultima is the third (and probably final) fight you can have against it. The first is part of the main story, the second is an optional Extreme trial, and this was the Ultimate version, a fight so difficult the majority of the playerbase wouldn't even bother attempting.

    To get a bit of clarity into the chaos. Ff14 re-released after flopping hard in 2013, the last story dungeon had Ultima as the final boss. Few months later we got an optional harder version of it. Later the music of Ultima, Titan, Ifrit and Garuda got orchestrion remixes. In the Stormblood expansion 2017-2019 we got an optional ultimate difficulty multiphase fight of Ultima where the orchestrion version of Garuda, Ifrit, Titan and Ultima play. While I like the orchestrion version, I personally prefer the original version you haven't heard yet.

    This one is hard to explain, but worth it: The Ultima Weapon is basically an ancient weapon designed to eat "Primals" for breakfast, and get stronger in the process. This gets confusing because the story and bossfight itself is a fan favourite. First we had in in FF14 1.0, then at the end of FF14 2.0 A Realm Reborn, and later down the line in the form of a WAY harder fight to basically break players. Each version of this fight has slightly varied soundtracks, plus the sound of three Primals that where used to empower the Ultima Weapon. From the players perspective this is even more impactful, because the lead up to the fight is crazy: Over the course of your adventure you encounter and defeat those Primals, then the big bad comes around and lets the Ultima Weapon eat them to use the ultimate magic spell "Ultima". This is awesome because that spell results in a huge f-off explosion leveling the whole area. You only survive thanks to literal plotarmor. But even that divine armor breaks after getting nuked with magic, once. The hero can't die? Wrong! This might be the end of the rod! Here you are, no divine protection left, with a fully powered up ULTIMA WEAPON before you: good luck, you might need it. And this was the tl;dr short version. For example the name "something-Ultima weapon" is commonly used for super hard hidden bosses in final fantasy games. A FF fan that encounter any kind of "Ultima Weapon" goes full "OH shit, here we go again"... and we love it. FF14 for example has a whole bunch of them, Diamand- and Ruby-Weapon come to mind, and ofc the whole series of OH F*** Omega-Weapons. xD

    Imagine you and seven of your best friends are recording a music video for a song. If you don't play the right notes and perform the right choreography, you start the recording over. Now imagine that you don't have access to the music that you'll be playing until you're on stage, and you don't know the choreography until someone gives you a cue. There are several cues that you might get, and you only have a couple seconds to react. For example, the lighting might go out on part of the stage. If you're ever not standing in the lights, then your mic is unplugged for a few seconds. Additionally, a spotlight might shine on you, and if other band members are *in* the spotlight, their mics are unplugged for a few seconds. If all the mics get unplugged, you start the recording over. Now imagine that each individual has a separate cue. Everyone must be aware of what cues the other band members are getting to avoid each others spotlights while standing in the lit up areas. In order to complete the recording, the band as a group must have a 99% accuracy on their *recorded* notes. This fight is like putting four 3-5 minute recordings as described above back to back, and if you fail to get 99% accuracy on any of them, you have to restart from the first song. You only have 2 hours to record, otherwise you have to erase the tape and start over.

    Took my group about 2 months of working on this fight 2-3 times per week for 2ish hours each of those days over a span of 2 months to clear this fight...and it's considered the "easiest" of the ultimate fights in FFXIV I've also cleared one of the other ultimates, The Epic of Alexander (TEA), and if you enjoyed some of the Alexander tracks a few weeks/months ago...do yourself a favor and check out the TEA soundtrack. The fight's literally choreographed to parts of the music and it's nothing short of glorious...and that's before the final phase transition :)
