I think I played more Blitzball than the actual game and I spent 100+ hours on the main game.

Best ever FF mini game.

I just scored my own personal best score of 13-0 without Tidus. It could have been 15 or 20 goals im sure of it but Blappa ran out of HP from shooting so much. Next time i play the ronsos im aiming for 20+ goals. I will try put up the result as a video here on youtube but i just recorded the final score and aftermath with my phone.

Not gonna lie, the mini-games in these games are always the selling points for me. Even Blitzball was a blast for me. Card games in FF8/FF9 were a nice touch, even though FF8 added a bonus for card-item refinement. Triple Triad was a blast to play (when playing with the fun rules.)

Goers are gonna have to ask Yuna to sent them all to Farplane alive.

The Besaid Aurochs went from the Chicago Cubs, to the Chicago Bulls!

Man, I almost feel sorry for Nimrook. Almost...

Have you tried scoring against Nimrook with an equal level player? Yeah, don't feel sorry for him. The guy is the best goalkeeper in Blitzball for a reason.

Jaxson Bateman Nimrook's CA stat is tempting to recruit but I can't seem to get over that he lacks Anti-Tech 2 particularly Anti-Nap 2 which blocks sleep. And every game I played my goalies usually gain 2 EXP per half because I played aggressive offense. All players other than my Goalie gain significant EXP.

1. If you do tournaments you can get tech find, which allows you to unlock the ability to learn any tech - including the antis. With anti wither and anti nap 2, Nimrook has all he needs. 2. You should be getting your goalie out in some games and passing to him. The AI is very easy to abuse (which I may have mentioned in this or another comment), so you can pass with very little risk to your score at all. If you do it in a tournament you can also get infinite overtimes, if you keep the score a draw each time.

pin317 there is a thing call "tech Find" players like Nimrook can grab those skills that you need with Tech Find and then they will be just like your perfect tech listed players :)

Fucking Nimrook, he once made back to back saves where the shot rating was at least 10 higher than his catch rating... then proceeds to dish the blitzball out to another Al Bhed fucker in front of my goal who rifles it past Keepa. I have no pity for that SOB lol

Larbeight Tidus Linna Kulukan Ropp Nimrook Wakka and Kiyuri on bench. Practically same. I think of Kiyuri as a slightly lesser Linna. And with Larbeight, I like his offensive and attacking capabilities. He's super solid for me. Anyway, just putting that out there. Check out Linna, she's great.

MrAddition1 This is a year late, but realistically, only matches wouldn't be all that fun. The AI's in most cases are exploitable, and certain moves would have to be banned; Ie, jecht shot 1 & 2.

This is good as well. I had a much different roster, where I had some of the Kilika Beasts on my team and a rehired Wakka and the two best goalies. Nimrook and Nizarut I believe it was. :D

If you're playing Blitzball to level 99, the best shooter is actually Keepa. Yes, the Auroch Goalkeeper. No, it doesn't make any sense. But his SH score climbs up ridiculously after level 90, and by level 99 his SH is actually a perfect 99. Still can't catch worth a damn at those levels though...>.>

Some characters in the game are great at something in the beginning levels, but then change when the game goes on. Wedge is a great character in the beginning for shooting the ball, but his catching stat in later levels surpasses his offensive abilities, making him the second best goalie. Kyou is one of the best free agent goalies in the game. While he stays that way in later levels, his blocking and passing increases to where he's better suited as a defender. Zev Ronso is a great choice for scoring in the beginning levels, but his shooting stat doesn't increase as good as it should, making his high passing stat and techniques preferable as a mid fielder as leveling up goes on. Like in real life, sport players can change roles as time goes on.

@@timotius Keepa still sucks as a forward even at level 99 compared to elite players. Larbeight, Linna, Needus, Isken, Shaami, Tatts, etc. are all way better than him.

Just got 17 in a row with Tidus against Kilika Beasts. Spammed Nap Tackle 2 on Vuroja and immediately Venom shot after, had to take advantage of the fact that Durren was recently recruited as their goalie and couldn’t hold up even when shooting from the half line.

Holy.......Shit...... those HP levels are CRAZY O__O AND THAT SHOT!!!!!

must have used a action replay on ps2 its the only way to get those levels and in blitzball waited till all players got 5 tech slots as ive done it myself when the game was released if done before any players get 5 tech slots the game freezes as you cant get 6 tech slots

the best blitzball team i built was, and they are all 99 level.. Tidus Larbeight Vuroja/Linna Kulukan Nav Gaudo/Ropp Nimrook the characters i have two in are the characters i switch time to time. to level nimrook up, you actually have to put him in part of your team before making him a goalie, its worth it coz he makes the best goalie in the game period. i have been thinking of replacing my tidus with nedus (that damn speed/shot and energy, too good).

With Nedus and a fast defensive team, it is possible to score up to 30 points. Swimming at speed of 99 is faster than the ball travel speed. Therefore, swim right next to goal and shoot. When passing, swim right next to player you want to shoot, than pass. Nedus, Brother, Navara Guado are vital to have. Nedus is the shooter. Also get rid of tidus and add the three best goalies to the team. Nimrook for the goalie and the other two to warm the bench so that no other team can use them. Right from the get go, when you get the blitzball, just swim straight to the goal and shoot. The defenders don't swim fast enough to turn and catch a player swimming at 99 speed. Again, 99 speed swimming is faster than a shooting balls travel time. Speed also bypasses many stats in the game like attack... cus they can't catch you. and pass stat is made pointless cus its faster to swim. Set everyone on mark mode on the same forward. Alternate between mark mode and forgot the other modes. Mark mode: everyone marking a single forward gets your players to cluster closer together. This helps to get as many players to attack the ball carrier at the same time. Your offense is never a problem cus the moment you get the ball back, you will score in a matter of 5 seconds by torpedoing to the goal and shooting-Literally. Its the defense that needs the focus. The opposing team will have the ball longer than you with this team. it takes longer to take the ball but no time to score.

Some of my blitzball team roster 2nd walkthrough: 6 girls + 2 guys... Larbeight, Shaami, Linna, Kiyuri, Kulukan, Shuu and Nizarut. I perm-bench Tidus on my second blitzball play through because he's broken in my books with that Jecht Shot 2, always getting Top Scorer Honors. PS2 version. Current blitzball team: Larbeight, Shaami, Linna, Shuu, Kulukan, Ropp and Noy Guado. I'll recruit Nizarut once his CA is 40+. Tidus is once again benched. PS3 HD Remaster Version. I always equipped Kulukan and Shuu the Nap Pass 3 to inflict sleep. Give Tech Find to Linna, Kiyuri and Ropp in order for them to learn Nap Pass 3. Venom Pass 3 I use to forwards with Invisible Shot because it is the only shot that I can't seemed to block/catch with the my Goalie.

James Friel is right in that there would be a better mid for this. Linna is the best offensive mid in the game, to the point where she actually makes a pretty decent forward if she must (I know this because I've thrown her forward so she can keep getting xp while waiting for contracts to expire).

17 goals in a match, a nice start. Here are some tips for getting more. You goal is to try and score every 20-30 seconds, which means.. round starts, you tackle ballhandler, steal ball, and instantly shoot. You don't want any skills that slow down the shot, such as that opponent goaltender with the "random" defense boost. Wastes precious seconds. Linna is great to do it with, high shoot and attack she will always steal the ball and best shooting, with good speed. Golden arm must have hehe.

The Besaid Blawndies Speed Squad Tidus Nav Guado Nedus (Higher AT than forwards) Naida Brudda Zamzi Ronso Scored 21 in one game with Nedus. Poor Vuroja and Nizarut needed therapy after that. 😅 Loved this game so much growing up!

Huh, and I'm excited when I score 10 with him (granted after a while I try to get others involved in the scoring)

Everything looked so much more low quality back then O_O HD remaster was my first FFX experience and boy it looks way better. This is still fun to watch though XD

The way the remaster looks to you is how my brain remembered the original cause I was coming from PS1 graphics. I know because I played the original afterwards and was like "oh so it actually looked like ass... interesting"

Just from a look at your menu, I'm curious; what are the other stats of your chars? I just know that I've just finished maxing out my own sphere grid with no suboptimal nodes, and while I did get everyone at least 1500 mp, their hp is in the 50k range (with 255 in all stats). Did you forego some stats like luck or something?

It's a shame you can't migrate your old PS2 saves across to remasters somehow. So many hours as a kid I would just never be able to put in ever again lol.

It's so hard to find a FFX vid on YT that would NOT be from the HD version. Glad to be here. Maybe you guys can help: I need some tips concerning levelling up in blitzball. I'm doing fine point-wise and I win every match but some of my players are underexperienced and I'd like to maintain a certain balance in my team. Is there a manual somewhere? Or maybe some useful YT vids I could watch?

the best way to level up a player is by just passing the ball back and forth throughout the match. each successful pass awards 2 xp, so if you have some underdeveloped players you can put them on defense and just have them pass back and forth constantly. take stuff like nap pass to sleep any would be defenders, then just move the desired players close together on you goal end and pass back and forth. Hi-risk makes this process much faster and I've gotten as much as 120 xp in a half. You can also do it in tournament, and since the game won't end in a draw you can do this strat for literally hours in a single game.

You get experience for completing actions. So, for example, if you want to level up your defenders, put them next to each other and throw as many passes as possible between them.

Breaking a tackle gives 0 exp. Throwing a pass gives 1 exp.

I've got Tidus Pah Guado Gierra Guado and two AlBheds on defence and Keepa in goal becuz Noy nor nimrook is ever a free agent any tips on getting them to become a free agent? i was thinking maybe i have to let keepa go so they'll sign him and let their goaltender go but i have no clue..

+Tyla8708 Play the Al Bhed team on Exhibition/practice (don't recall what it was called), and keep forfeiting the match. Eventually Nimrook's contract will be near its end. Save before the final game they need to Hire/Rehire a Goalie. Then go in and forfeit the last match. If they Rehire Nimrook, soft reset and do it again. When they hire Whoever else, you can then go on the Airship and hire him yourself ;) By the way if you're going for Wakka's Sigil, Hire Brother at the Airship helm. He's BEYOND BROKEN well into mid 50 Levels

That's exactly what I wrote down dude. He's SO good until mid 50s' or so that he will be SEVERELY overleveled at all times if you pick him up straight away and abuse his power. Which in my opinion makes blitzball VERY boring, but if you never liked it in the first place, then pick brother up, get your Jupiter Sigil and never look back! I have saves where brother is Level 70+ while the rest of my cast is in the mid 40s. And even though his stats on paper fall off after 50, go and compare the best level 40 players stats to Brothers level 70 ones. You will find he's still obsenely overpowered :) I now have an all 99 team and brother is not worth using anymore, but barring that level extreme, Brother is SO damn strong he would only become subpar by the time the rest of your cast hits level 70 or so. And that's not a level most people would ever care to reach :)

I can't play blitzball not sure why the option shows up, and I can't choose it anymore when saving the game.

Is part of the challenge to use Tidus? You could do better with a higher ATK shooter like Larbeight (96 shot, 50 ATK at 99)

Fortunately your comment is pretty recent, so hopefully I can help out a bit. :-P Blitzball is actually pretty simple with a bit of planning, and personally I find it quite fun. First up, if you've messed around with it at all, you may want to reset your team data (which pretty much means you reset Blitzball). This is good for two reasons - it lets you start with a clean slate, and it can also be used to 'reshuffle' the tournament prizes, until you start with a tournament that has what you want. Though unless you've already won element reels in a tournament, the league prizes will be pretty moot, as you won't be able to get status reels as a league prize until you've won attack reels from a tournament, and you won't be able to get the sigil as a league prize until you've won auroch reels from a tournament (which you can't get from a tournament until you've won the status reels from a league). Basically, the order that prizes potentially unlock is status (tournament) then attack (league) then aurochs (tournament) then sigil (league). Then, you want to plan out what team you want to use, and look into those players. For example, my ideal team consists of Larbeight (with Tidus as a backup LF), Isken, Vuroja (with Linna as a backup mid), Kulukan, Ropp and Nimrook. 4 of those players are Kilika Beasts, with a 5th being an Al Bhed Psyche. So those players were off limits for me for a various number of matches. I could, however, pick up Ropp and Linna immediately - and anyone just starting out Blitzball probably should, as they're two of the best players as well as being teamless initially. So at this point, I had 3 of my 'final' 8 players, and had to fill 3 gaps while I waited for contracts to expire. Fortunately, Jassu isn't the worst defender ever, so he got to keep a spot. Wakka is not the worst forward either, so he also got a spot (though if I were to do it again, I'd probably use Brother instead as a mid, and throw Linna forward, as Brother is a higher quality player than Wakka). For goalie, Yuma Guado is pretty decent, especially early on - and is another free agent. So I had my 6. I also checked out when my 5 other desired players would be 1 game from having their contracts expire, so I'd know when I definitely had to save. After every game I'd recalculate how games were left until their contracts expired, keeping in mind that in tournaments not every team plays every round. I'd also check every now and then to see if my figures matched up. That's pretty much it when it comes to acquiring a team (if you want more information about who are good players for what level brackets, GameFAQs has a few good Blitzball guides). Beyond that, if you're looking to get XP (and thus overpower your opponents through sheer stats), generally the best way to farm xp is to pass between defenders and your mid, as passing gives xp per pass. It's even smart to put your goalie into a defensive position in some halves as goalies are notoriously bad at levelling. If you want to take this tactic even further, with the way the AI works, if I'm not mistaken they generally back off if a defender has the ball and are as far right (towards your own goals) as you can go. As such, you can pass between defenders, spamming Square after each pass and holding towards the goals, and you'll never be at risk (I do it with a mid and defender, so I have to be careful about when they turn around, and just make sure I don't leave myself dangerously open if I care about winning). Taken to an even further extreme, tournament games don't end until someone scores, so you can effectively do this until you get bored of it, and gain massive boosts in a single match. Finally, when it comes to techcopying, exhibition is the way to go. Keep in mind that you need to learn key techniques from left to right on the technique selection screen, and learning them usually opens up the ability to learn other techniques for that player (for example, player A might have the first key technique of Venom Tackle - before learning Venom Tackle they might not be able to learn Wither Pass, but after learning Venom Tackle they might be able to learn Wither Pass later on).

In terms of XP - just gaining levels will boost your stats, and in many situations, especially the lower levels, good stats are better than good techs (keep in mind that you can easily get all Wakka's loot before anyone in your team gets to lv 50). In terms of stat distribution, it is set, so gaining levels is all you need to worry about. In terms of techcopying, if you find yourself badly needing to get some techs for whatever reason, do some exhibition matches. You get to choose your opponents (so if you know someone has a certain tech from experience, you can play against the team they're on), and neither team gains xp so you don't need to worry about letting them level up while you focus on getting the tech (and when you try to force techcopy situations, sometimes you have to play badly - like running a player against someone with Wither Tackle, so they'll use it and you can copy it).

Level 20's with my team and scored 7 times in the first half. Maybe I can get another 7 and get 14 in one match.

oh you also probably want to use the tournament tie-exploit to level your linna up to 99 in 1 game, so the next game you play your opponents will be super low in level, guaranteeing you 100% chance to steal and score each time. Play a tournament game, just have linna pass around forever lol and don't score, the match will continue forever until someone scores a goal. Level up to 99 in 1 game. presto, super Linna. Larbeight would work also, but has less stats (99/60 to 96/50)

oriconz Nimrook is probably using the Hi-risk technique which halfs your stats but doubles your exp. That Nimrook might be 36-37 Catch.

also revenge on Nimrook for being such a prick to score against in the early stages of blitzball

If you're playing blitzball fresh, try and play the ball with tidus and your forwards in the first half. Try and bait their defenders close and pass to tidus when he goes passed them. No offsides in blitzball so he ends up just getting a clear path to get close to the enemy keeper. If you don't have jecht shot, sphere shot is best bet until second half. Once second half starts you should have enough exp (if you played tidus enough) to have enough shot value to get a goal if you're close enough.

Brother is good until about lv 50, and many players won't bother with Blitzball long enough to make lv 51+ even matter. But at that point, other mids really start to shine over him. As for getting a goalie experience, they don't have to stay in the goals. You should pull them out in some games - particularly games that you don't care about winning, or that you've gotten yourself into an unassailable position in the first half - and put them into a defensive position, then spam pass with them.

Avi Kumar Later on. As in, after level 50... :-P He's actually one of, if not the best MFs until that point, and shortly afterwards. It's just that a bit beyond 50, he doesn't gain stats very fast, while some of the great higher level MFs like Linna and Vuroja are getting big gains.

Man this mini game use to fucking irritate the fuck outta me. I did the Luca match in the main story almost 50x till I found that the jecht shot on the ship was the key to beating those Luca fucks🤣. 1 win against them was a lifetime of relief until I found out you needed to grind it out to get wakkas other OD🤣

The team that never wins now gets 17-0.

I've played the first game of this over 10 times and I just can't win it's so stupid.. what ever happend they get the ball

A good method is to first make sure you set the controls to where you can move the ballhandler manually. You then make the midfielder pass it to the outside defender, make them swim a bit towards the front without any of the Goers close, pass it to Tidus, and then do the Jecht shot when only two people are blocking his way. When I initially played it for the first time, I did this method and ended up winning the game 3-1.

I always play fair with every team but the goers. I massacre them to oblivion and the farplane. Almost to a point it's a joke battle and the goers is the punch line.

Hi-Risk. Around level 52ish he'll have 36 CA, which Hi-Risk halves. He probably released Nimrook with Hi-Risk on, waited until a team picked him up, then immediately played them. Why he didn't de-equip super goalie and grip gloves to save the extra time both of those abilities take is beyond me.

I cannot win this game with the Aurochs. It's impossible. The game expects you to be the one to do all the work. It's rigged for you to lose. I have tried at least 30 times including using Jecht Shot.

It really isn't that hard, use Letty to spread the ball around to Titus or Datto as his passing rating his really good in early levels compared to block stats of opponents. Titus' EN and SH stats should overmatch most ATK and BLK ratings. It's all about making the proper decisions in encounters

Overused technique every time. I was hoping to see variety in shots but it was as if you watched on part of the vid over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

You didn’t let nimrook level according to yourself. Kind of a cheap win. Lots of work for no real accomplishment.

You serious I loved playing Blitzball I grinded that shit when I used to play ffx. I like it almost as much as the game itself lol.
