An additional hack for tomato paste is to put the remainder in a zip freezer bag and smooth it out prior to putting it in the freezer. When you need a little bit for a recipe you just break off a piece of it and throw it in the pot. Super easy ;)

Love Irish Spring ☘️ and have been using for years on my plants to stop deer from eating my hosta. You actually don’t need to grate it (although it does make it look prettier). You can slice the soap bar 🧼 with a chef knife and, depending if it’s sliced length or width side, it will crumble for easier placement around plants or borders ;)

The shaved Irish Spring soap hack can also be used to prevent deer and rabbits from eating some of the perennials around your yard. I take a bar with a vegetable peeler and just walk around the yard spreading the curls around the plants I want to protect. Works great around hosta.

Hi Kathryn!I have used the colorful "food umbrellas" as protective covers OVER my flowering beddings plants in my garden. The mesh panels allow water to sprinkle in, whilst protecting the delicate blossoms. My plants grow faster and better with just that little bit of protection and they peek through the mesh as well. When more sunshine or water needs to get in, or the plants grow taller, I simply tip the little umbrellas back. You can pin them down more solidly with wooden or plastic chopsticks, plastic untensil handles ( You can also add a label of what they plant is onto the handle or stick or a cute saying.) If they are worn out after one summer, it is such a low cost for protecting your expensive plants and growing seedlings. PLUS they look pretty and darling too~

I love every single hack you bring to us!! I knew the one about the pants as my dad did that for years as his go to method of measuring lol. He put the pants around behind the neck to place to two parts in front so he could see in the mirror. I am not crazy about Nutella, but you sparked an idea of making those pastries with a little apple pie filling or other fruit filling. Easy dessert option to go with some vanilla ice cream! Oooohhh I’m hungry now!! Love ya sweet friend…your hugs are truly the best!!

Your tomato paste hack reminds me of how we removed jelliedcranberry sauce from its can as kids and slid it into a celery dish to serve on Thanksgiving. I store tomato paste in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. Once the bag is flattened,it takes up no space.I can see how much is left an just break off what I need. A can of tomato paste goes a long way. I saw a suggestion to freeze in an ice cube tray. The flattened Ziploc is much better and your hack is way better than spooning out of the can! Thanks. Not even a spoon to wash! I love Thred Up too.😃

I've known the paste trick, I started doing this when I got married and I've been married 50 years, and Emeril picked this up in the 90s, and my mom always use scented oils on a cotton ball in her vacuum, you can also put one in your trash can and linen closet....if you hold the pasta package closer to the bottom, the top will open easier when you bang it down on a hard surface...❤

With the drink cans, you can do the same thing in a cooler, then add ice. For tomato paste, you can put it in a zip top bag, close then using the back of a knife to section squares of about one tablespoon, then freeze, then you can just break off what you need. My Mom used to leave a piece of wax paper in the can of shortening to use as you did the butter wrapper. we make those sliders for parties. Everyone always loves them. For the puff pastry ( my favorite !) Try raspberry preserves for the filling, then after baking, drizzle with lemon flavored glaze yummmmm! 🥰💐🌷🪷🌞🍒💖✝💝

The Irish spring trick also works on deer and squirrels. Crumple up the shavings and put on plants that you don’t want eaten by them. I did it on my young tree seedlings and tulips and they stay far away from it. You have to replenish after bad weather. I have never tried it for fruit or veggies, not sure if it was safe or not but works on the leaves and around the ground of plants that they will destroy.

Besides tomato paste, I open both ends of fried beans, etc. Another suggestion is to store most unopen jars and cans upside down. This weekend works especially well for natural peanut butter. I figured out about 10 years ago how to get rid of ants all over my kitchen. I noticed that whenever I mopped, they disappeared for a few days, or even a week! So I started mopping once or twice a week simply to keep them away. 😂 I had been using the old classic Lysol cleaner, just a capful or 2 in my bucket of water. You can buy it at Walmart, it comes in a dark brown bottle with a yellow label. I imagine it would do well on counter as well. Imagine if you could use it all over your house, you could be ant-free!!! I've been using it for my floors ever since, maybe that's why my mom loved it so much. ❤

What great hacks! I'm definitely doing the Irish Spring one. I have one to share (perhaps you already know?) - take a dryer sheet (unused) - any kind - rub it along windowsills & anywhere (like under doors) where stink bugs come in. What great tips Kathryn! 😍 Yes we have a bar of Irish Spring hanging in a mesh bag on the front porch! 😋 I didn't make turnovers myself but I got the frozen ones and baked them in the air fryer! I baked them at 360° for 8 minutes then turned them over and it only took about 6 minutes on the other side. It cooks somewhat faster than a regular oven so you get your treat sooner! I'm having fun while trying to figure out the air fryer. I usually try to find a video of what I'm trying to make. I've always loved baking and have been excited about uses for the air fryer. Not only does it replace frying things, but it also helps when baking! Your tips and hacks are really awesome, saving us time and money! I love that you made this video using items we already have! 😚 Sometimes we have tools and gadgets that have multiple uses! It's so nice when someone shows you something that's right under your nose! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with all of us! 🥰

I had a narrow tv remote that was always getting lost. I couldnt see it on my cluttered nightstand or it would slide down in between our split mattresses. Thanks to your wonderful tip about the phone stand knob attached to remote it no longer fits in between our mattresses and I got a purple one which matches our room decor I can easily find it on my nightstand or wherever it might end up. Thanks. You are the best.

I like your use of the shower cap! I will have to try that! I use them when taking a plate of cookies to someone. They stay on WAY better than plastic wrap and they are reusable!

The tomato paste hack I’ve done way back when I was a kid when I feed my dogs. The old is new again. I also use this method for canned cranberry sauce. Now the Irish spring idea is a great idea. I have a few bars, that I don’t use, and can repurpose them to do this insect repellent.

Irish spring is hated by mice. We store our antique car in the garage and sprinkle chunks of Irish spring inside and we don’t have a mouse problem over the winter and the car smells amazing for the first car show.

We stopped at Dollar Tree in Sioux Falls, SD. None of the items you mention were in that store. In fact, many of the shelves were bare. I managed to get some items on my list, and made a mental note not to stop at that store again. Being on a fixed income with rising prices on everything, DT is (or should be) a welcome reprieve.

I started opening both ends of the small cans of tomato paste back in 1983 when I got my first apartment. My cousin was there when I was making sauce and freak out about how easily the paste came out. He told his mother she told my mother and all her siblings, that told all their kids, that told their family and friends. So your welcome.😂😂😂😂😅 P.S. my mother wanted to know why I didn't share the with her and why she had to hear it from aunt Martha. I told her my dog chewed up my rubber scrapper that fit in the 6oz. can so I saw the top and bottom of the can could be removed and it worked. I never thought about passing on the knowledge that and Frankie my cousin has a big mouth and so does aunt Martha. 😂😂😮😅😅

Irish Spring soap also repels deer. I place small slivers in a mesh bag and hang it in shrubs that the deer like to nibble on.
