I am so happy that Audie Murphy is still remembered. His military record is almost beyond belief--as was his modesty about it.
Great actor. Thanks for you serving our country! WW2 hero. My late father was a WW2 vet hero also! RIP 🪦❤️🇺🇸🥀
He was a true Military hero in life and as well as in movies! No fake was he playing in military movies he was his movies true military tech advisors! RIP
Thank God people are finally appreciating this fine man. I always liked him and admired him.
I am thankful for you and others who visit gravesites!! Thank you!!

As a kid, I watched all of Audie's movies. I saw his dogtags on display at the American history museum in Washington, DC. I still remember they were stamped with the name of his hometown. Hutchison, Texas. A true American hero.
Audie Murphy was still a legend to us young Army soldiers when I served in the '90s. He was the embodiment of bravery for us Joes. It's amazing how we all still knew who he was, even though his real-life heroism and biographical movie was decades in the past. Most people nowadays don't seem to have much of a sense of history.

Hi Steve. RIP to Audie Murphy . To young to die . A modest American Hero. Thanks . Deborah 🇨🇦
Wonderful to see that these people resting in this area are remembered.
R.i.P Audie Murphy. True American Hero 🇺🇸❤️
I remember going to visit the changing of the guard on a really hot day. After seeing the ceremony and waiting for the tram I went to find a shade tree. I went under the tree and while glancing over at tombstones saw Audie Murphy’s name. No one was there at the time but I was glad to have visited.

My daughter used to work for our local TV station and she would up load Audie Murphy movies and Randolph Scott movies while working there. Thanks so much Steve . 🏖🐊

I have visited Arlington cemetery many times. Audie Murphy is so close to the road, it's an easy stop for the tour groups on the trams. What is sad is also nearby are several of the Challenger and Columbia astronauts yet rarely do you see a lot of people there. Not taking away from Audie Murphy tbough, he was a great soldier. Then again, Arlington is full of remarkable, brave men and women. Thank you all for your service. Steve, so glad you got to visit Arlington!

Well! I had no idea there would be a line for Audie Murphy's grave. That's great. I am glad he is still remembered today. The most decorated soldier in WWII. I waited in line for Elvis' grave. Have not been to, too many famous graves. Thanks for sharing, Steve. 😃
The foot traffic was so much they had to place a concrete path in order to protect the soil from erosion. An extraordinary soldier with such a basic military grave is so fitting considering CWGC graves overseas.
Auntie G worked w/ him on a trio of film/TV projects. She once stated that he seemed impressed on an occasion when they were traveling together to a location and he took note of an injury which she recently sustained, giving a glance that seemed to suggest, "Whoa, this li'l lady must've been through some real action!".

Audie Murphy was amazing and his part in the War is to be always commemorated. It was well deserved with the honors he received and his acting was some of my favorite in Western. Thank you Audie Murphy for your service as well to others who rest there.
I went to Graceland in the middle of May this year. The garden, where Elvis and his family members are buried, it wasn’t crowded at all. I was able to sit on a wall and just take it all for about 15 minutes. Elvis’s grandson and daughter Lisa Marie are actually in granite tombs above ground. Elvis and the rest of his family are below ground. If you want to visit Graceland and the Graceland Museum, I suggest going in the middle of May. It’s after spring break and before summer vacation. The Elvis museum is awesome. I stayed at the Graceland guest house. I’ve never been treated better at a hotel.

Great Story ✨ Thank you Steve ✌🏼
Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn NY now welcomes the public onto its grounds, and also has organized tours. But in the 1970s, things were different. You could only get in with a permit, and the only way of getting a permanent permit was to have a loved one buried there. That was when New York was in the midst of a crime wave. Its a good thing he is buried near the edge. General Patton was originally buried in the Luxembourg US Military Cemetery in the middle, among all soldiers under his command who died . The visitors going to his grave were numerous, and spoiled the grass in the area. So they exhumed him and relocated his grave to the edge of the cemetery, overlooking the 5000+ buried in the cemetery.

I believe I read that Audie Murphy is the 2nd most popular grave to visit at Arlington, after JFK. Even more than President Taft, which surprised me. Also, the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is one of the coolest things you'll ever witness, so I understand why the tour groups were in a hurry to get there!
Kinda disappointed here, Steve. You mentioned that Audie was a movie star post-military career and that he was "one of the most decorated military figures of WWII." Murphy was, in fact thee most highly decorated military figure of WWII. But what im dissappointed in us the fact that you dudnt even mention that he was a Medal Of Honor recipient - the most highest recognition that Congress/America can bestow upon any sailor, Marine, soldier, or flyer for going beyond the call of duty. And if it wasnt for this recognition he more than likely wouldnt have had a Hollywood career after the Army. Out of the millions who have served in the US military (since 1864 when the MOH was established) only 3400 have earned this recognition, most of them posthumously. But w/ that being said thank you for another fun video.

Audie was not one of the most decorated soldiers of WW2, he was the "MOST" decorated soldier including THE MEDAL OF HONOR. He enlisted as an infantry man but earned a battlefield commision to 2nd lieutenant because of his leadership qualities. As noted he gained the rank of Major. I'm not taking anything away from the other decorated in that war just giving Audie his just due............. BTW, the actor Lee Marvin (Dirty Dozen, 2 rolls in Cat Ballou, Attack, hundreds of other movies and TV) is also buried at Arlington.
Excellent episode, I've had to que to visit The Queen Mother 20 odd years ago.
I saw changing of the guard it's cool
The last time I was at Arlington, I must've walked a mile looking for Audie Murphy. There was only a couple people ahead of me that day. I also stopped to pay my respects to The Brown Bomber, Joe Louis. I'm a boxing fan.
Northeast of Nashville, Tennessee you'll come to Pall Mall. Here you may find the grave of Sgt Alvin C York, a reciepent of The Congressional Metal of Honor. His battalion and a small squad under his command came under vicious German machine-gun and infantry attack as these US units advanced toward their superior positions a hill. US soldiers were falling left & right as they advanced till officers halted the advancement with orders to find whatever cover they could. Stil, the relentless German defenses continued to fire & take US lives. Sgt. York was ordered to take a portion of men to "neutralize" the entrenched machine gun nests, but he and his men were unsuccessful & pinned down. Seeing these men dying, York, once declaring status of a "conscientious objector", couldn't remain hiding from the onslaught. Alone, he flanked the machine gun nests & soon "neutralized" (KILLED DEAD) all those Germans manning those lethal guns mowing down Americans. From there, still flanking the long deep trenches of German Infantry. York began with the German closest to him and continued to rapidly killing each subsequent man. The Germans attempted to stop York, but York would quickly shoot any German rising to attempt it. The German Officer in charge had little chance to overcome this one man attack, and rapidly surrendered to the lone York. York ordering the Gerrmans to abandon the trenches and head downward to custody of his 7 man crew. York forced the German officer to order other German units to surrender. Eventually York and his 7 marched their 135 surrendered Germans to a disbelieving American Command. York alone brought these battled hardened German Officers & men to the point of them knowing any resistance was futile and would lead to their defeat & death. His men just helped gather them and march them to imprisonment. York when asked how with legitimate "conscientious could he kill so many Germans during his attack he replied, "I saw men dying and did it to save lives." York, from a modest if not poor mountain family, on return home accepted a fine two-story home with fertile lands for crops from a grateful State of Tennessee and nation. He farmed peacefully the rest of his life.

In his autobiography To Hell and Back if he was the lone survivor of an attack of German soldiers, how could they authenticate it?
Rest in peace

I’ve never seen a line to visit a grave
Everyone needs to see Arlington. Stand at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and listen to the absence of sound the Loud deafening quiet... click... click... click, deliberate measured steps, click...click 21 steps exactly. Not more not less...steps with a solemn purpose...click...click.21 times. He turns and faces east...21 seconds...silence. He turns north...21 more seconds of deafening silence, breathing, counting 1,2, 3..19 ...20...21 and the clicking begins again, deliberate sounds of the guard's heels striking the concrete the only sound. And he repeats it until he has completed his most solemn duty of honor. (The number 21 symbolizes the highest military honor that can be bestowed, the 21-gun salute.)
