I just happened to see this. Usually I resist anything that labels me as a “senior” etc. although I am. For the past year or so I’ve noticed that balance postures are difficult for me as I have practiced yoga for many years. So more tree poses for me. Squats I have no trouble with. Thanks.

I just ran through the whole thing. I can do it all with no problem except for standing on one leg. I am very wobbly. I need to really work on that. Thank you so much!

I’m almost 72. I am a runner (and have won my age group in a half marathon in the past year) However, I have never had good balance. I did very well on the 30:sec chair squat test (almost 20 stand/sits). However, I have never been able (even when much younger) to balance on just 1 foot. I have practiced but no matter what, I can barely do it for 7 sec (with my eyes open). I did recently discover that I might have a visual issue (not sure what the condition is called) if I turn my head While doing motions. I have worked on that with not much progress. Other balance tests I can do without a problem is the heel/toe walk forward/backwards. I have very high arches and weak ankles (toe and heel lifts are very hard for me. I was told once that I have zero flex when trying to lift toes up off the floor so not sure how that affects my balance. Is there a physical problem that I might have that might be behind those issues?

Hello Marie, great questions first of all excellent job on continuing to be so active and running and even winning your age group! It’s hard to tell if there are other things going on, but I would recommend seeing a local physical therapist to get a better handle on what’s going on in the meantime, I would continue to try to work on lower body strengthening exercises, as well as at least maintain your level of balance with your eyes closed. Yes, it’s very difficult and you may not seem to be improving on it but if you don’t work on it, I would hate for it to become even more compromised. Hope this makes sense, have a great weekend.😎

@@FrontRowwithEd thank you. I had worked with a personal trainer who also was a physical therapist. She is the person that gave me the name of my issue which somewhat visually related to the balance issues. I intend to keep working on it.
