Its not just being able to bend the pole. I think the fact that “Dark Cap” was able to smash through a giant window and fall several stories crashing into the hood of a car in a classic “Superhero Landing” pose probably cements the fact that he took the serum.

Oh, wow - I knew there was something a bit familiar about his facial structure and so on, couldn't place it. And, he has done a great job. I think a viewer not aware of the comics would go initially from, ‘I don't like this guy, but is it just because he's not Steve, and Sam and Bucky are giving him the stink eye?’ to ‘wow, this dude is NOT Ok’.

Seeing someone NOT walk away from getting punched across the room was a refreshing reality.

If the goal was to kill the new cap, why stop and run away? its not like they made an extreme exception to break a 'no kill' rule or anything to take out New cap and only New cap. Each time John Walker shows his flaws (portrayed remarkably well by Wyatt Russell), it builds up the legacy of Steve Rogers even more. It made me understand how Steve had immense compassion, unparalleled morality and sense of justice. I love this show so much.

Marvel do a great job of making you like villains. Loki, Zemo and maybe even thanos, yet you can't forget what they have done. Killed innocents, slaughtered families and destroyed large populations on other planets and so on.

Hmmm yeah I loved it! The interaction with Ayo too did a great job of telling us that these two have a bond. Additionally I loved the episode where Bucky is sat opposite Wilson during his last psych session and explains why he's so invested in Wilson taking back the shield and why he shouldn't have given it up. The scene, like the Wakanda one, showed Bucky's vulnerability.

@@q-train3052 That's probably the intended callback with contraposition between the two Captain Americas. Even when Steve got worked up, he had restraints and still had his moral compass. When John Walker got worked up, he completely lost his moral compass (whatever was left of it) and was out for blood. John Walker also just stained the mantle with the world watching

You were right about Sharon Carter! Although I'm a bit sad at this revelation. Wanted to see her fully become Mockingbird and join the Avengers. Marvel hinted this with her outfit at Peggy's funeral, and the staves she used in Madripoor. Seeing her become so bitter and still act the way she did after her pardon makes me wonder how did she spiral into such a angry, jaded mess? Is she a Skrull??

The episode title comes from Black Panther when T’Challa is about to kill Claue in Busan and Nakia stops him by saying, “the world watches”, because a bunch of people were filming it.

Same with in the winter soldier while hydra apprehended Captain America after their big fight in the middle of the road, one of the hydra officers who worked with strucker really wanted to kill captain America, but strucker said something like “not here” or something kinda sending the same message as the world watches

its hard to dislike Zemo. his wit, humor and cunningness are very entertaining. loving the comedic relief from Bucky's and Zemo's one-liners and sarcasm

The fact that walker killed the flag smasher member the same way cap spared tony was amazing writing Edit: for those of you talking about how different of circumstances just remember Steve had his best friend get shot out of train and then fall to what Steve thought to be his death. As far as we know he did not kill the hydra soldier and we know he didn’t kill Arnim Zola who gave the order to kill him. Now that may not have been in the same movie as civil war but still goes to show the parallel they are creating between what cap was vs what the new cap is now.

In all fairness, Steve Rogers Cap doesn't hold the shield specifically for the Flag in a physical sense or metaphysical sense. He never really stopped being worthy of the shield even during Civil War, he just dropped it out of respect for legacy, specifically Starks and the Avengers. But his best trait is that he doesn't arrive out of arrogance or pride. He does it through integrity and decisiveness. He holds the shield because of values. Cap will drop the flag in a heartbeat to maintain those values and that makes him more Captain America than the flag.

During the scene when John Walker bent the pipe, look at Falcons reaction. He then asks Walker, "What did you do?" John Walker definitely took the serum.

In the episode he throws the shield so hard that it jams into a wall. Kinda of a parallel to Isaiah throwing that metal tin in the wall. Making me think he has definitely taken the serum.

Exactly, that was the first indication that he took the serum. And they set up the moment he decided to take it too, right after the Dora beat him so badly and he talks dejectedly about them not even being super human but he still got his butt kicked in a spectacular fashion.

Lemar's statement about how the serum intensifies who you really are is significant. Lemar was much wiser than Walker for sure.

The serum amplified Walker’s PTSD to the point where he completely lost it.

This episode really showcased the exact reason Steve Rogers sees greatness and goodness in Sam Wilson. We didn’t get much of that early this season, but it’s clear as day. Sam really is the best candidate to carry the ideal of that shield. His super power is something only a guy like Steve could understand: his heart. He’s “Not a perfect soldier, but a good man”

The way that Sam rejected the offering of the serum, if it were made available to him, is the exact reasoning of why he should have it.

I think we are in this comment section mostly because of how great that episode 4 of TFATWS is and how painful to wait a week for another episode. That dora milaje fighting scene, and that ending though, superb.

Damn this episode was so good! I know he made a bad choice but it really made me feel bad for Walker...a normal man trying to live up to such high standards...Russel's acting was amazing in this one!

I feel like Battlestar operated as John walkers conscience. it seems that Battlestar was that friend that kinda reels u in when ur taking things too far. now with Battlestar dead, there's gonna be nothing to hold back John's anger or irrationality...its like the one homeboy keeping him sane was just murdered in front of him.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I just wished we seen more incidents of it before his death so they could have really hammered home the whole "walker loses it" trope. I think I saw more incidents of him being his "hype man" than his conscious in this particular episode for example. But idk how long the series is gonna be so maybe they didn't have enough time to flesh it out. It was still really good tho but I think it could have been WAY better.

"You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." He received metals and became a hero, but did not feel as though he deserved them. Remember, he said he got those metals from thebworst day in his life and felt as though the serum would've helped him save his friends in that situation. That's why he took the serum. Not some power-hungry move, but so he could save more people. He's the same exact person as Steve, only separated from the fact that he had more anger and aggression, which the serum increased dramatically, thus driving him to kill the flag smasher after he saw his best friend die in front of him.

Who else was like the second they saw battlestar "He's gonna die. Yeeeeeeeaaaaah...."

I don’t even blame John. Like karli killed his best friend. I absolutely love how they’re writing him. Also the way John jumped out the building confirms to me that he took it. Also think Sharon is the power broker

Zemo is turning out to be the MVP of this series! His experience, high intelligence, wealth, and and ability of master manipulation makes him very compelling! He is always observing and thinking! I like how he seems to be 10 steps ahead of everyone around him!

Gray characters like Zemo and Loki are complicated. They have back stories that provides them a level of depth and somewhat of a justification for the means that they use to achieve a desired end! If anything, excellent shows like this one provides us a mirror to ourselves that shows us that we all operate in the gray areas, neither being ultimately good or evil! We all exist on a spectrum between good and evil. At times being closer to one side or the other!

Notice how everytime Steve put on his shield, whether that’d be on his arm or his back, the star would always be pointing the right way. With John, notice how the star is crooked in the last scene of ep 4. This symbolizes his mental state I think.

The end was so gruesome. My man about to lose his job. 😶

I liked when falcon and Bucky were just standing on the side while John Walker was getting his ass kicked. They were like " should we help him ??"😂😂😂

Sure he'd have a challenge against the smashes because he didn't have the serum, but he still expected to win. After what happened with the Dora Milaje, well let's just say he can't swallow the fact that he's nowhere NEAR the "most powerful soldier." And it doesn't take the MCU to tell us that people can do some VERY crazy things if things aren't going their way....

Zemo recognizing Steve Rodgers as a true hero instantly reminded me of Hero Killer Stain recognizing All Might as a true hero in MHA

Ain’t gone lie watching Bucky speak Wakandan had me hyped af. Legit made me put him spending time in wakanda, more into perspective

That flashback with Bucky and Ayo just broke my heart. Sebastian Stan is killing me in this series. He's made me cry twice with how Bucky is still grappling with his place in this screwed up world.

John killed the wrong Flag Smasher but I can't help but sympathize with him since losing your best friend since high school, who has served together with him in the army, is very traumatizing. Karli's way worse, having pushed the Flag Smahers to terrorism and not even bothering to save her friend from being beaten to death

Great breakdown. A few callbacks missed, like all the comparisons made visually between Walker and Rogers, but great all the same. My two favorite moments are 1. Walker is annoyed with all the knives. He is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, but he's a US soldier, trained mainly in firearms. He does not possess the amount of training Bucky and the others had, so even though he can hold his own against some grunts, he's frustrated and annoyed. 2. The mid-shot panning around him, after he killed that guy and realized everyone saw him. The shot is very low, almost from the dead guy's perspective, but it circles him, implying that yes, Walker have the power, he is the big man now, but he's also the center of attention, and compared to the world, being "the big man" means nothing. It's also a nice callback to Walker talking with Lemar about the terrible things they did, while calling it "the right thing". Another great moment I loved, was when Walker kicks in the door to claim Zemo, even though it was unlocked and unopposed, showing off to a bunch of people who are not nearly as impressed as he think they should be (followed by Sam's perfect response). I really think Russell is the star of that episode. Really shows he's range and capabilities as an actor, portraying Walker perfectly. I want to see more of him. He's the best villain since Zemo, in that way you love to hate him for.

The moment where John killed that Flag Smasher is the moment where he stopped being Captain America and officially became *the U.S. Agent* .

Really good breakdown Charlie. A couple of things though. You mentioned that the snap killed all the folks, but as you previously mentioned, they ceased to exist, they didn't die. The second thing, Battlestar got punched in the sternum by Carlie...I think that instantly killed him. He wasn't kicked. This was, by far, the best episode. Action and sub plot packed!

Steve also went for Iron Man's chest, but only to cut the power, he knew where to stop, Walker didn't!

I assumed John Walker took the serum after the initial skirmish with the flag smashers when he realised Battlestar had been taken, straight after hes standing in the corridor looking both ways and looking lost.

I'm a combat veteran of OIF-1 and served 5 years on active duty in the US Army Military Police. I struggle with PTSD and Moral Injury and I found myself crying when Ayo told Bucky that he was free. Not one of my VA counselors or Chaplains told me I was free. I identify with Sam, and Bucky. John Walkers getting medals for actions he is not proud of reminded me of Agent Thompson in "Agent Carter" who got a Navy Cross for something he did in combat he was ashamed of and the Navy calling him a hero - just adding to the moral injury and PTSD. Seeing Walker though the lens of a decorated on the outside but broken on the inside soldier, causes me to have pity and empathy for him. Instead of him reaching out to the two war vets who can get him out of the weeds of his feelings and trauma, he pushes them away. I was horrified when Walker used 70 seconds to undo 70 years of Steve's legacy. I hope he is not too far gone to get the help he needs.

This episode highlighted why Steve chose Sam as his successor. Also, getting this weird vibe that Sharon is the Power Broker.

This episode really changed things for me and my grown up sons. We had all felt that this show was falling short of the MCU standard, but the addition of Zeemo gave us hope it might turn around and meet the standard of “Wandavision.” We all felt “Wandavision” was a masterpiece for a short season series. Zeemo is such a slimy worm (great actor mind you) but he’s given Bucky and Sam a chance to develop some actual chemistry. That said, John Walker going all “Gears of War” on the Flag Smasher for killing Battlestar at the end cemented the duo. This entire episodes from start to finish was provocative and really through Carly, Zeemo, and Sam tackled some serious issues and makes you think America and how we are viewed in the world today by different nations and people. Heroes or Villains? It all comes down to at Sion or person, and things are not as crystal clear as the Cold War and WW2 before that. John Walker going nuts was something I saw coming as soon as I saw him appear in Episode 1 with his lousy uniform and chin strap mask. He saw himself as inadequate from the day one, and really didn’t need the serum to go psychotic like that, but now that he has superpowers, he may be the real villain the rest of the season!

Did anyone else notice as Sharon is walking talking to Sam on the phone in the background on the wall a painting of a Cheshire Cat appears maybe either a hint that she’s not what she seems either as a Skrull or The Powerbroker herself

That scene was filmed in Atlanta and the tag next to that painting is from an actual Atlanta artist, so that might not be a reference to anything, just regular street art they couldn't remove

The image of Walker with blood on the shield is up there as one of the most iconic images in the MCU. It perfectly sums up what happens when the wrong person holds the title of Captain America.

I LOL'd at "what's with all the knives?" 🤣

The moment the shield lodged into the concrete was the 1st clue that something was different... the 2nd clue was him kicking the Flag Smasher across the room. 3rd was the bending of the pole. 4th was Sam asking him, " What did he do?". and the final clue was jumping from a 3rd story window... we don't need to wonder about that last dosage of serum any longer.

When Sam called Sharon she was casually walking through a BUNCH of armed guards just chilling watching her walk by. She definitely has a big role when it comes to the Power Broker. Some people think it's her, which it possibly could. If not, she's really close with this person

That's a very good observation. I didn't notice that. While watching it I kept thinking who are all these guys she is walking through and why are they looking like they are guarding something. Good theory.

Unpopular opinion but I actually like and feel for Walker. The beginning of his fall from grace is just so well written and acted its very compelling to me. You feel the tension rise through the episode knowing he would lose it but hoping he wouldnt. Even his conversation with Lemar about the day he earned 3 medals of honor being "reminders of the worst day of his life" and "how many more couldve been saved" gives him good motivation to want to take it This all on top of the fact that Walker in episode 2 extended an olive branch to Bucky and Sam like literally 4 different times and they were so busy throwing a tantrum over the shield they shunned him which is clearly the start of that whole arc. I'm actually frustrated at Bucky and Sam for acting like complete fucking children and I feel bad for Walker. They both obviously have lots of room for character development

Omg finally someone who feels this way too. Walker's got good character. That moment when he said "not even a super soldier" or sum like that- man i felt bad for him. I hope we see more of him in the future, he has a lot of depth in his character. Would be a cool character arc. But the way the 4th ep ended- that shit fucking scared me. Im getting a feeling this wont end well ://

FaWS has been killing it. The plot is very spyish, love the cameos, and I hate to say it, but Zemo is becoming a favorite of mine!
