Fake Food, Real Art: Crafting Display Delicacies
In Japan, it's customary for restaurants to display their offerings inside their front windows. Think restaurant window shopping. The displays come from one city only: Gujo. This ancient town is the epicenter of artificial food. The people who make the displays are real artists, but the "food" they create is not.

I know this comment is 4 years ago, but there is a 7 min segment on plastic food in the documentary Tokyo-Ga.
Way to show the actual process
I went to Japan, the food tasted ever better than the one it looked.
People should start burying these into time capsules. Who knows what our diets will be in a few decades

The real forbidden foods
This would be a dream job
You can find these displays at many restaurants in Singapore shopping malls. These are incredibly impressive and realistic (so much so you'd actually think it is real until you interacted with it).
Such amazing craftsmanship!
I hope these artists get paid good money
I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THE PLASTIC FOOD! Thanks for this.
I would probably eat them by accident if I ever see these

I have a feeling 3D printers will dominate this industry later on.

+LadyLatias You can produce base of the product with 3d printing, but you cant make realistic looking product with 3d printing. Accurate painting is what makes these products look good.

I am a collector of fake but realistic friends.
What kind of paint is used to color?
Can you share the website of this company?
Bro I think that guy is blinking "torture" in morse code
how could i learn these to make ?
In the 1970s and '80s I'd see this stuff in restaurants in Los Angeles' Sho Tokyo 'hood....often covered in dust.
Japanese people are so smart and talented Kudos to y’all!
Which company is it?
What's the name or website of this factory/company?
Is this where my old friends came from?
I think I'd feel hungry all the time if I worked here.
You can watch how it's made it on Japanesestuffchannel because they make a lot of them
brain: eat it me: it's made of plastic brain:... EAT IT.
Guy: what do you do for a living? Me: I make fake shit
I HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO GET A JOB IN THAT PLACE OMG
CC: "speaking foreign language" Ah yes, thank you for the enlightenment.
I would end up biting into that plastic food thinking it is real and get chocked to death!
i want this job
I bought one on a chain it was the sushis you see at the end of the video it was 1000¥
I want to do this as a living
the artists: "please do not import 3d printers"
I'm hungry again.
0:02 That scared my ass.
can you give me it
♡♡♡Japan is amazing♡♡♡
why not 3d print it?
I wanna know how marketable this is and who else are their customers cause as per the video they are making a lot, and if youre telling me those are for restaurants then they should only need one or two of those displays per dish and I don't think they'll order again cuz that'll last along time. And they are making a lot so I don't think there are that may restaurants with that many orders in Japan. So... just had me thinking hehehe.
Great content, now try working on the audio!
They do this in Korea too....
Where do wax simulated foods come in?
First time i saw one in Hong Kong, then another, then another in the same day, i was like, "do they cook their displays? " only when i took a closer look that i noticed that it's actually plastic. These should also be a thing in mc donalds, wendy's, and other more fast food chains so the customers wuld not be disappointed when the food they were served would look like shit compared to the picture on their menu
this made me hungry for ramen
My dream work placeee❤️😍I love food and art Edit:Nahhh,I prefer being BTS’s makeup artist
Sushi, crab, omelets, duck, ramen, beefーoh my God, that's all plastic? IM LAUGHING
This s art.
I'm hungry...
Very interesting video! Can't help but feel this 'art' (because I do admire the incredible craftsmanship!) is really ironic in its purpose as our supply chains in the food sector are getting more polluted by (micro-)plastics every year. One day, replica and real food might become just a different grade of toxic consumables.
The factory manager: Machine can never do this better than us. 666 years ago: machine was made human and that machine is Darwin.
Ok .. But where are the drinks?
I understand why it costs so much. But do they at least recycle?
They could make bank off this if they go into the toy buisness!! Kids would love this!! Now I know it would take many hours or days to make a single package of tgus but you cpuld price it higher... idk just a suggestion..

ah his voice cracked in the intro lol
Gujo is a city not a province... and they have prefectures...
If there wouldnt be a title I wouldnt know that this is fake
