When I was a kid. I got Serrano pepper in my eye. It was very painful. I tried to wash and rub my eye but it made it worse. The next thing around me was vegetable oil, and I poured some into my hand and cupped it on my closed eye. The pain went away immediately. That's how I learned that oil counteracts hot sauce. So the next time you try something very hot. Rub some oil around your mouth but do not swallow it.
